    Here are some extra thoughts on stabs that didnt make it into the video -
    stabs I would personally avoid - KBDfans screw-ins (go out of tune like its their job), owlstabs (not on par with the stabs listed here, basically more expensive durock v2s), cherry clip ins (unless you literally cannot afford anything else, shoutout ultra budget gang we love you)
    if you rock LONG POLE SWITCHES - you may want to consider gateron long pole stabilizers so that your stab keys dont teeter on each side - especially if you press really hard on the spacebar ends.
    The crappy stabs you got that are plate mount with your cheap board (TESTER68, Gas67, etc) CAN be tuned to perfection with a lot of work, but actually can feel awesome + smooth because of the horrible tolerances. Just be sure to bandaid mod the plate so they don't rattle around (see my womier k87 botanical video!)
    I have not personally tried c3 equalz, gateron ink v2, and gmk stabilizers, so please check out some other trusted reviewers opinions on them before purchasing.
    Thanks for watching!

    Cherry clip-in and cherry screw-ins are still my go-to. A little wire balancing and proper lubing and I've pretty much eliminated ticking. No holee modding or other manipulations done. I think one point not many people talk is that at the end of the day, since all stabilizers require some tinkering out of the box, it's a skill issue with the installer.

    • @PoltergeistWorks
      @PoltergeistWorks Год назад +2

      I'm really shocked that noone to this day came up with a better stabilizer than the original cherry stab. The genuine cherry stabs have a membrane that you pierce or should i say bend slightly when you insert the wire and it sits nice and tight inside the stem. Is this so hard to do? I will go further and say that plate mount stabs are BETTER than screw ins. They simply provide more support for the key and give you a rock solid spacebar. I've never been able to achieve a spacebar that has zero rotational movement with screw in stabs...

    I used to use Durocks when Tx and Staebies were rarely in stock, and no matter what I do they always have ticking issues. Now that Staebies and Tx are easier to purchase I have the luxury to try them both. It is difficult to say which is better since with minimal effort they both will sound good. If you have just one board, then I would say go with Tx stab as it's cheaper, but if you got multi board with different space bars then go with stabies. I actually bought the wrong Tx stab for my QK65 and I am glad I have a extra 6.25U from the Staebies as I used the 7U for my tiger80.

    I will personally rank C3 V3 second to Staebies because TX is wobblier. Sure, it doesn't cause any rattling or ticking issue (at least in my case), but it can cause interference on some cases, like D84 V2. It comes with OPTIONAL stuff like stab pads, stem pads, stab wire pads and 2 different materials for holee mod (which I don't think it needs any; tested both and it didn't feel mushy. If anything, the teflon one felt more mushy but it doesn't matter on regular use).
    And yes, I absolutely hate Durock V2. It not only causes interference because of how wobbly it is, but also, its wires are always bent (at least in my very small sample size of 3).

    Staebies are amazing, I would recommend avoiding XHT DBZ on the stab wires and just stick with 205g0. The tolerances are so tight that you have to be extremely light on the application or they can feel sticky (I've done several tests with various sets), even with incredibly thin application they still feel sluggish. The best stabs I've tried though and needing less lube isn't a bad thing. Also, completely agree with Durock V2's they are simply not good.

      ugh i feel that! but tbh - i actually think crappy clip ins can sound fantastic if you tune them right - and because the tolerances are so bad, they're actually incredibly smooth! I always use dielectric grease on the wire for those though - to really tackle the rattle.

  • @WTFA54
    @WTFA54 Год назад +1

    I'm a firm believer that basically any of the common stabilizers can be tuned to be rattle free and sound clean, but some require more work than others and people might not have as many materials on hand or as much experience tuning so it still makes sense to look for stabs that are just easy and relatively ready to go out of the box. Honestly the Wuque stabs and the C3 stabs are also solid options. Owlstabs could be good but the fact that the wires are impossible to actually tune makes them super hit or miss. I still kinda think that if people are gonna build lots of boards though, cherry stabs and a jar of XHT-BDZ is really the way to go

    TX is great for low effort builds. It doesn't require much work to make them sound and function great, however the space bar is not the ideal tone I aim for. Steabies quality control is trash--- I end up having to pick pieces of plastic left behind form manufacturing. My personal favorite are the black/silver gateron v2's, specifically if you're going to use long pole switches. They feel tight and you don't end up with a floating shift key.

    Love the cut away commentary! (yes Staebies sound like an STI)
    Nice vid, would’ve been nice to see the 2u comparison as well. None of my keyboards use a full spacebar, and what’s the best spacebar stab may or may not be the best mod stab
    Also would’ve been nice to see the C3 stabs to round out the TX/AE/C3 being considered the best newer gen of stabs, but you did say you just didn’t get them in your comment
    Also, your camera was out of focus in some of the shots just FYI (unless you wanted the mic to be the focus and not you lol )

    • @coleydotmp4
      @coleydotmp4  Год назад +1

      Yes to all of this. Apologies for not including 2u - i figured full spacebar would be best since those typically have the most ticking issues and are the easiest way to tell a stab's sound + feel. I think it's the most taxing on each stabilizer, so a good test. and yea - I've heard wishy-washy things about c3 stabs so i never went out and purchased them. I would check out some other reviewers for info on those!
      and yes i noticed the focus at the end, trust me you don't need to point it out 🥲 rip

A lot of white residue on the stem after krytox I guess and sticky grease after holee mod from bandaid while housing covered in thin layer of oil I guess after warm water. Shit sucks lol. Scared to dip them with ispropyl heard that plastic could melt. Tips?

    What’s your thoughts/observations on Owlstabs?
    Bought a barebones, and am deciding on whether to buy new stabilizers, or mod my current ones. The ones I’ve got came with my Keychron V6.

    • @coleydotmp4
      @coleydotmp4  Год назад

      I had a set come with my QK65 - I really didnt like them. They were very similar to Durock v2's, and my pair would rattle no matter what i did. And because of how the wire is made, you cant bend it to be straight. Basically, it's a gamble buying them, you might get bent wires that are near impossible to fix, or you might get a perfectly straight wire with no rattle. I personally am not a fan.
      I'm not sure which of the keychron stabs specifically come with that specific keychron (the green ones or black/whites? those were pretty decent.). But if you want to upgrade, I'd get TX or Stabbers.

    How can I tell if a certain set of stabs will be compatible with my keyboard? Is there some kind of standard?

    • @coleydotmp4
      @coleydotmp4  7 месяцев назад

      Yes - Youll have extra holes near where the stabs go. These are screw holes. This means that both clip in stabs and screw in stabs are compatible.
      If there are no holes, and the plate that comes with your board has bigger spaces for each housing of the stab, the shape to specifically fit plate mounted stabs, then your board only supports plate-mounted stabs. Plate mounted does not automatically mean bad - but make sure you perform the bandaid mod *on the plate!* to hold the stabs in really tight to get rid of rattle. That + a good job lubing + tuning will result in a perfectly acceptable stabilizer.
      If you have a plate that supports plate- mounted AND screw holes, congrats, your board supports both. This is kinda rare though. Usually in budget boards that come with plate mounted (cheaper for manufacturer) but also have the holes in the PCB for screw ins (for compatability marketing purposes). Hope that makes sense!
      lmk if there's a board you're confused about - i can help you determine which stabs it supports.

    My TXs feel and sound bad and strange respectively with longpoles, and i found out they made separate longpole versions on newer revisions. Do staebies and stabbers have similar problems or is that a Clip-in thing? TX thing? I'm clueless. I want a set that'll work fine with both regular and long stem switches 😤

    • @coleydotmp4
      @coleydotmp4  7 месяцев назад

      All stabs have a problem with longpoles. It's unfortunate - the work around is pretty simple though. Either don't press your keycap in all the way (if you do, this will cause "teetering"), or you can cut small pieces of material (i've seen masking tape used) and use tweezers to put them into the keycap holes. Not the ideal solution, but better than nothing. Otherwise you could buy stabs build for longpoles - like those TX's, or another brand like gateron that has a longpole option.

    I used Durock V2s for Womier K66 with boba U4 and Pom Jelly keycaps. Well, those are pure garbage stock. I did several mods:
    1) holyy mod
    2) wire wrap mode
    3) put bandaid under wires
    4) put bandaid around housing
    5) put some wrap inside keycaps to eliminate rattle
    Almost everything is wrapped or bandaided or lubed. They are not worth more than 5$…

      I wish i had the answers for you, but i havent tried the akko stabs, and I don't have a gmk67 :( All i can say is that the TX stabs are clip ins, not screw ins. As long as the plate/pcb support screw in stabs, it *should* fit. BUT If i remember correctly, i think that board is plate-mounted stabilizers (also it should come with a set in the box). Just make sure you buy stabs that work on the board!
