    "Someone call 911"
Never say someone. Point directly to a few people and tell them to call/get help. During a situation like that people wont take action because they are to busy staring. Which is a normal thing to do but then everyone is also busy thinking someone else is making the call
Pointing to someone directly will be more likely to get an actual result.

Once my friend passed out in a restaurant, and I looked at the guy in the booth across from me dead in the eye and said (while standing up, reaching across the table, and holding my friend up so she doesn't suffocate in her guacamole while I'm straining against a herniated disc) "Go get a waitress" AND THE GUY STRAIGHT UP STANDS UP GRABS HIS BACKPACK AND RUNS AWAY
Like 2 seconds later a girl and her friend actually helped me but I was so confused. My friend threw up on me and she was fine.

@@EightJane It's called the bystander effect. It's caused either by pluralistic ignorance or diffusion of responsibility. In a nutshell, the former is people reacting calmly when witnessing a crime if other witnesses behave that way, and the latter is people feeling less responsible for helping the victim the more people there are around - they expect someone else to do it.

As a person living with autism, I can confirm that the hyper visualization of knowledge that he uses when performing surgery on the kid is extremely accurate for some people on the spectrum. It's actually so accurate that it shocked me when my girlfriend told me that it wasn't a normal way of processing information given that it’s the only way I have ever been able to think, as I’m more or less 100% visual when it comes to thinking.

because apparently, people are too busy looking at the accident and won't do anything unless ordered to.
edit (1): people have been commenting that it's actually because they're thinking other people have done it (calling 911). i just forgot to add it here. this was also said by my professor. we need to point at people so that 1.) no one would call another ambulance and have a few more people calling and have like 10 ambulances in the area, and 2.) to prevent the people not doing anything (or at least don't want to get involved).

As an autistic person, I just want to add that yes early intervention is the best thing to do, but a lot of programs that teach "social skills" (based on NT standards) disregard the actual reasons and feelings behind our autistic behavior, so the so called "result" can be only on the appearance/surface and not actually help the autistic in question, so that's something to watch out for.

My son is autistic. It has taken me years of failure to learn how to accept his idiosyncrasies as okay and not necessary for me to change. It’s a massive struggle for the neurotypical to adapt to the people who are autistic and make the different social connections that they use, translating them to what that means in neurotypical. It’s like constantly translating body language where one version means things other than what I’ve come to associate with them.
Parenting is hard anyways, prone to error with lasting consequence. Parenting an autistic child, even high functioning, is a whole other level of difficult.

Like if how you are stops you from having a job then you need to work on that (assuming it’s possible to help) but clapping your hands when your excited doesn’t need to be, it’s others fault if they find that weird not you.

"unusual" amounts of recall for specific items such as facts, numbers, dates, and other specific list type items happens frequently with autism. i, for one, memorize lists of numbers like phone numbers, credit cards, and all of the passcodes in my family with little effort but it also becomes a problem when it clogs up my memory or i feel like i need to recite the numbers as a calming mechanism. it's not a good idea to start reciting your social security number out loud just to feel better /j (i haven't actually done this specific one, i usually write numbers down and usually skip that one. credit cards are fair game tho)

As a mildly autistic 18M (almost), The fact that he can memorize relatively irrelevant information is something that's apparent. I haven't gotten to this degree myself but there are a lot of cases I've been told where memorizing has gone to this degree.
The reason why it happens is because when we're young, we hardly know anything. So, there are a lot of seemingly irrelevant things we can find that we can suddenly be very interested in, to the point we're "off in our own world".
To explain this, coming from my experience. At a young age, when you find something interesting, we can get so focused and dedicated to learning it that we're almost completely ignorant of the world around us. Which is why we can sometimes spot things others don't, I guess.

I get a blood test every week (long-term health issues) and one week i went in and for some reason my veins were popping and the nurse was so excited that she hugged me. We got bloods on the first attempt that week.

Growing up with Autism, things were definitely not easy especially during my school years and at home as a child. I got picked on a lot at school, my Mom has had issues with her temper and my communication with others was the biggest challenge. How I managed was mimicking others how they socialize, like their interests, joining a sports team, even going to dances and learn some of their moves. I was very nervous about getting myself out there, but I managed and I found ways to adapt and found people who truly cared and helped me through them.
