Have you considered reviewing the prince charles cinema? it's not exactly a top of the range cinema but def a very special and unique one, showing films on 35 and 70mm

As regards the sound,.it seems they have a calibration problem ..Best alert the local Management and hope they understand..or alternatively contact Dolby discretely as they insist on high standards..great that there are curtains ( were they in screen 5 and 7 as I got mixed up)? kind regards
There were tabs (curtains) in all auditoria when the cinema opened in '93. Haven't been to most of the screens since the 1990's, but I visited many times back then (£4/ticket for weekday matinees!) and I definitely remember Screens 3/4 (basement level) had vertically rising "festoon" type curtains. Screens 5/7 are basically identical (albeit with different sidewall decorative LED strips), the curtains were retained in the refurbishment, and are still used. They were retained in Screen 6 as well but I think they're just left open. AFAIK they were removed (possibly before the refurbishment) from the other screens.
Hi, can you review a smaller scale auditorium cinema? Want to know how to identify a good quality watching experience in the smaller one, because that is mostly what we have in my city
I enjoyed watching your video and agree with most of your points. A little bit of background on the 1993 rebuild and screens 5/7… Both were built to THX spec. and retained certification for many years. The original speakers were JBL; Dolby Digital, DTS and (screen 7 only) SDDS decoders were added early. 70mm projection capability was available also. Combined with excellent acoustics (low reverberation time) and excellent standards of presentation, these screens were (technically) among the best places to watch a film. Whilst being a modern multiplex, theatrical elements such as the 1930’s-style “stepped” proscenium and tabs (curtains) were included. I was surprised by Vue’s 2017 refurbishment. The new foyer/lobbies/bar are very nice. But there seems to have been a complete lack of imagination with the auditoria. To be fair to Vue, the ’93 building packs as much as it can onto the site. Increasing the stepping substantially to provide better sightlines may not have been possible. I think upgrading to all-recliner might be the best option. Regarding projection, Vue had contracted Sony to provide projection throughout the UK, and the dual stack SRX-515DS was then top of the line. Unless you have the content, then you’re limited to regular peak brightness levels and DCI-P3 gamut. For that reason alone, with custom graded content, IMAX or Dolby Cinema are better options. BTW, screen width (and relative seating distance) is almost identical to the Odeon Luxe West End Dolby Cinema, albeit the screen is masked rather than floating, so (for scope) the projected image size may only be slightly smaller.
hmm, what row/number was you at? what time of day? as the norm is early/nonpacked shows they turn the sound down as theres less bodys to absorb the sound/bass ect
2:16 so how come i can see light reflecting on those leather black morbid looking seats then . guess money doesn't buy all the promised things then . " nope " and " nope " will not go to this cinema ever again . the new THX cinema when opened 1994 was rubbish THX sound . total disappointment compared to CIC Empire Leicester Square and CIC High Wycombe . the THX at warner when seeing , maverick screen was it 5 or 7 as they both look the same , the THX broken down during THX " grand " the auditorium only had 20 so people in it . warner kept losing their THX time and time again , why they ever bothered having THX ? the tube train passes right underneath the warner so THX couldn't grant warner THX with bad NC ratings . i should have checked it out when it was warner west end , with THX as that sort of looked THX controversial , could have popped in see lethal weapon 2 in 70mm THX or batman 70mm THX , but kept going to Empire 1 THX .
I only remember going a couple of times in the '90s. Once to see The Fugitive, and once to see Batman Forever. It was never my favourite cinema. I much preferred the Empire next door.....at least until the refit.
Great review! QQ: I'm planning on seeing Avatar in 3D - do you know if this cinema or the West End Odean cinema are true Dobly 3D? By this I mean is the 3D tech actually Dolby 3D or is it just RealD 3D with Dolby Atmos?
Hi, the sound system in the Warner 5 & 7 is Atmos, so in theory, its the same sound system that is installed in Odeon West End 1 (Dolby Cinema as you keep quoting). So you have to ask the question, why does the OWE sounds better. I think Dolby 7.1 is the much better natural sound system. Really enjoyed your video. Plus the surrounds on the side wall don't slope down on the same ankle as the seats do.

For example surround and overhead speakers at Odeon Dolby Cinema are top of the range, at VUE they are most junior model. It’s highly likely that the processor in Dolby Cinema the latest model and more advanced that the one which installed in VUE. Regards the front speakers I suspect that VUE kept their old speakers and just added new surrounds and overheads. Which system is better, 7.1 or Atmos or even 5.1? Depends on equipment, room treatment and system calibration. I have strong feeling that system at VUE is not calibrated very well while in ODEON, Dolby engineers are looking after it.

It expands on existing surround sound systems by adding height channels, allowing sounds to be interpreted as three-dimensional objects". So with a good sound engineer, Dolby 7.1 and Dolby Atmos EQ's should sound the same. Some theaters get looked after better than others, which is a shame. Looking forward to the next one. I went there in the 90s quite a few times because it was one of the only THX certified cinemas.
