Believe it or not, one of the most frequent requests I’ve been getting here on this RUclips channel has been to do a Ryanair review. To be honest, it’s something I’ve been wanting to do as well, so...here it is (at long last).
This is footage from Ryanair flight number 225 from London Stansted (STN) to Dublin (DUB). I was seated in 6A, and the aircraft registration was EI-FRS.
A wild and crazy (and expensive!) adventure it was.

Best to pre-book a minicab over the phone/internet and get a fixed price quote and have the driver waiting for you outside the customs hall. The various taxicab apps (of which there a several including Uber) may not work out cheaper (surge pricing), and you may need to wait.

European LCC's are in a whole other league compared to their American cousins especially when it comes to price. They really take the concept to the extreme, and as long as you arent bringing too much luggage with you
then flying airlines like RyanAir, EasyJet is fine. consider it more of a bus in the sky, getting you from A to B, you just have to suffer for an hour or two.
When you take into account being able to fly across Europe for as low as $5 return ? i wont complain lol. I wouldn't take them as part of a longer itinerary though, i've used Ryanair mostly for day or weekend trips

    • @sanspotter

    • @AristoCat221

This is true, we don't have any expectations from RyanAir, EasyJet, WizzAir, they are low cost carriers that take you form A to B in 2-3 hrs and you spend almost nothing. Which is fine and that is the price we pay, if we want experience and luxury I would go with Turkish, always.

    • @framedman
      @framedman 4 года назад +1

@@sanspotter They can be arseholes if you have even the slightest bit of luggage and if you don't get Priority (and they only sell a limited number), you only get a tiny weenee bag to take on board. Plus, even if the gate says it's closing but boarding hasn't even started yet (often the case), they can still turn you away if you wait until the queue has died down because you didn't arrive on time, even though the plane is still boarding. Then, the landings are always hard because they don't want to use the brakes because the turnarounds are so quick, they can't take off with hot brakes.

Car rental / Uber / Bus / Tube / Stansted Express - all excellent alternatives to the black cabs. It must be at least 80 miles from LHR to Stansted (which is not in London). Here in Scotland we have something similar - we have Prestwick Airport advertised as Glasgow Prestwick when it is ~30 miles or more from Glasgow. I tend to avoid Ryanair. I find Easyjet a far better alternative. I've travelled a lot on both and Easyjet flights tend to be more relaxed, with more comfort and a crew that doesn't growl. Ryanair flight attendants sell, sell, sell all flight long and, in general, I disembark in a worse and more stressed mood than before take off. Nice video, though. Happy travels!

FYI: New York City centre to Newark Liberty or LaGuardia about the same time by car as LHR-LTN or LHR-LGW; JFK a bit longer, comparable to LHR-STN. Since then I have flown them about 20 times on all manner of routes in Europe and I have never paid more than £40 for a flight with them, and that £40 flight is a 4.5 hour journey that I'm doing in a few weeks from Lanzarote to Newcastle. It was great to see what you thought though I feel your opinions may have been different had you have flown on an aircraft with the old cabin. There is a certain craze to label out of the way airports as being near a city - and Ryanair uses most of them. The collection of airports calling themselves "London" includes Stansted, Luton, Oxford and (briefly) Manston. Apart from the marketing of the airports, it does give people unfamiliar with UK geography at least a vague idea of which end of the country they're heading for.

Ryanair is an airline I would happily fly with for either a cheap break or if they were the only option to a location. I always use them on day trips or two day trips, so I can pack light. The hassle of getting from Heathrow to Stanstead by public transport is exactly why I avoided flights using Stanstead. The cost is also going to wipe out most of any price advantage in the airfare. I'm pretty sure that Ryanair charge for check-in luggage, which is another reason to avoid them (and why people were carrying those stupidly large bags into the plane in front of you). I'm sure Stanstead and Ryanair are perfectly legitimate options for locals who can travel with just carry-on luggage, but international travellers need to be aware of what they should expect. The explanation for the yellow headrests can be found in trains.

Why you got a black cab is beyond me. Most people look up cheaper options. You literally could have gotten a National Express coach for £25.

Much cheaper to just either book directly from the US to Dublin (the big 3 all fly there from their major hubs), or just fly on BA or Aer Lingus from LHR to DUB. As a frequent ryanair flyer: The purpose of priority is not to be faster on the plane, when you slect priority it means that you get a cabin suitcase in addition to your free backback. The purpose is that the people with the suitcase go inside the aircraft first to store their suitcase in the overhead compartment. In fact, booking priority without a cabin suitcase is a complete waste of money. And second, I will never understand why people stand in these endless lines at the gate and then complain about the inconvient boarding and stress. In fact I wait until the whole line is on their way to the aircraft, then I stand up from my seat at the gate and go to the aircraft straight without any standing waiting time. Also it enables me to take a 20€ window seat in the very front of the aircraft for free, since I just go on the empty seats when boarding the aircraft last.

Non-priority isn’t really an option anymore. You either pay priority and get to bring your HAND luggage (can you believe it, they’ll allow hand luggage?!) on board. If you don’t purchase priority and miss the teeeeeny tiny option to check in your hand luggage when checking into your flight, they’ll charge you €25. It’s a business tactic that’s successful! Just look at the priority vs non-priority line.
But aside from that, I’ve flown Ryanair many times over the years! They’re an incredible airline in terms of affordability and I’ve never had a direct issue with crew. Ryan air flights always board last minute. The reason isn't to make people spend more but the plane that you will be boarding literally pulls up at the gate, drops people off as you saw, gets a quick clean by the cabin crew, fills up with fuel as people are boarding and then it's off again. The tight turn around means late or last minute boarding. The tight turn around also means they really REALLY put the foot down in terms of speed to accommodate it so flights arer often bumpy even on clear calm days and landings can be quite rough. If you want to take cabin luggage you have to book priority. Priority has to board through the front which means the queue is huge to get on the plane. If you can I would recommend non priority. Boards through the back and less of a line plus the rows at the back usually have empty seats so better chance of more space. All of that being said I think they are great value for money overall. I fly with them weekly and no issues so far.

I flew RyanAir out of Gatwick to Dublin......they turn those planes over frightfully fast! Definitely no-frills and it will get you there, but not the most pleasant experience to be sure!

They fly out of gatwick too? That would have been far more convenient in this case I think...

@@sanspotter Fares can be a bit more expensive, but it is certainly much closer to Central London, and (as you mentioned) transport out to these more distant airports like Stansted or Southend (SEN) make the logistics and cost a challenge! to say the least!

@@sanspotter They do fly out of Gatwick, but only to three cities in Ireland (including Dublin, of course) and Alicante, Spain. LGW is very much easyJet's turf.

LTN is another not-really-London airport, where typically the "boarding" starts and actually turns out to be a 10-15 minute wait on the stairs. One time we apparently hit the limit of how long they were allowed to keep us on the stairs, got called back up to the gate, only for them to immediately decide it was really time to board now, and back we went again (and actually onto the plane this time). On the whole, I despise STN more simply because it's even more painful to get to by train from home for me.

That sounds miserable! Oddly enough...I’m kind of tempted to try it once...
