Wow! This is a great tutorial. I have always been avoiding wooden propellers like the plague. Now I'm inspired to give it a try. I'm looking very much forward to the video in the series. :-)
I've been painting 1/24 scale and even some 1/8 figures for about 10 years but after seeing your fantastic artwork I am starting to pluck up the courage to try scale models. I'm now 58 but I bet your work has inspired many young people into the world of models and miniatures, Please keep making these amazing videos.
Hi David, I want to thank you for all your work as it serves me as inspiration to tackle new challenges, as for this video, after your seen your techniques I feel confident enough to try it myself on my next plane with a wooden propeller. Then again, thank you asked have a good day!
A really interesting video , im just getting back into modelling after a break of around 20 years , aircraft from the 20s and 30s are one of my interests , so watching the video was very informative .
I was gonna say that wood grain looks huge and unsuitable for a propeller, but then I saw that photo and realized I didn't know enough about propellers :P Never knew they made them layered like that, but it makes perfect sense.
on my paper Fokker Dr. 1. 1/33 scale i made the propeler exactly how they used to make them in real life... only that i used carboard "planks" that after i sanded to the corect shape i painted it using as guide lines the very faint glue line between the "planks" and it looks verry realistic... the big problem is the sanding to the corect shape .... geat tutorial plasmo, although i only build paper models i enjoy a lot your videos.
Just as I see a mistake beginning you go on and I come to know I just didn't understand. Your work is - beyond convincing, the lines, the form, the coloration, the fine detailing.
Fantastic work as usual. I haven't made a model in years but im planning a wwI biplane (biplanes were always my favourite) thats been shot up. So the challenge will be realistic bullet holes through the fabric im loving your work man... totally addicted to this channel
You can put oil paints to cardboard palette about 10-30 minutes before painting to let linseed oil from paint to soak to the cardboard. Paint will dry a lot quicker and will have more matt finish.
That moment when a modeler is so freaking good that you actually just straight up believe the original shot at the start to be the actual scale model :DD
I think what would have been a good addition is to talk about the setup for your oil paints. From what I can tell they are not thinned and straight out of the tube?
Would you put reference marks on each blade to help get everything even? Sure someone like yourself probably doesn't need them but thinking more for someone like myself giving it a go for the first time. Very nice video and work. Just subscribed.
Hello Sameer here from india .. I love watching all your videos. I also want to start a RUclips channel for micro models like you. In your opinion, where and how to start
How old are you David? I ask because you’re already what I would call a master model maker. Goodness knows how much better you will get as you get older. Beautiful work.👌🏻😎
Beautiful work! I was watching another channel covering a different technique to get a similar effect by using watercolor pencils (scale-a-ton). I was curious, what is your take on this method?
Hi, thanks for the tutorial, always a great joy to watch. I have a question about the Mr Color GX100 Super Clear III and its combination with the Mr Color Levelling thinner. Can you please indicate the thinning ratio you use and at what psi you set your airbrush? Thanks.
I use 1:2 for thinner but I have 0,4 mm nozzle and air pressure 15-20 psi is ok. If you have 0,2 or 0,15 nozzle, then you must use a ration like Lobomír. 1:4 or 1:5
There's going to be a difference between left hand and right hand propellers too. If you are left-handed, like me, a right hand propeller is easier to paint. The twist on a left hand propeller goes the wrong way. *EDIT I have also found that, while I like the effect of oil paints on models, I don't like the finish. It tends to have quite a lot of surface texture which is not to scale. I haven't been brave enough to attempt to sand it back yet.

Fantastic job!

Great video. It would be helpful to new modellers to mention the grade of sand paper you are using.
I think what would have been a good addition is to talk about the setup for your oil paints. From what I can tell they are not thinned and straight out of the tube?
Yes, I use them simply straight out of the tube.
Just so nice, continue guy, i like your videos and your WW2 Models
Great result !
PLASMO, could you please make a tutorial on how to use an airbrush correctly, and also how to clean them.

They used an animal Hyde glue on propellers and still do today. But it makes the edges have a black line separating each layer.
That is brill x
Amazing
Beautiful work!

Hi, I'm using the same varnish and I thin it in crazy 1:5 ratio (Varnish : Thinner). It sprays nicely between 15-20 psi. Rock hard, glass-like finish.
Thanks for your advice.
