As a bigger girl my tip is to look for Torrid tops. They are usually flowy enough to fit any size and have both basics and patterns. I got a ton the other day at goodwill
That’s a good tip! I’ve heard they have really cute & trendy styles! I know the square neck tops and off the shoulder are very trendy right now which is perfect for Ren Faire/Fantasy staples! Paired with a corset, 👩🍳 💋
As a big guy, I actually recently bought a linen Torrid shirt for myself.
Late comment, but we just got a torrid here so this is good to know!
YES! Unfortunately, ThredUp isn't great for anyone over size 10 or so (or is short, like me). You have to get really lucky to find anything cool or unusual there at my size of 16. :/ Torrid is still fast fashion, but hey... we do what we can.
@@DressMeUpScotty can we get some ren fair vids for guy clothes?
I just thrifted my outfit for my 1st ever ren faire. All of the pieces I uses were found in a single 30min shopping trip to goodwill and for under $20. I've never been more proud lol
Omg I’m proud too good job! 👏🥰♥️
I found one real leather corset thrifting one time. And I go every week haha. So it's hard to find them for sure
😱 that is an AMAZING find!!
Pardon me if you mentioned this already and I missed it, but Knox Rose is another Target brand that actually specializes in kind of boho, romantic, and peasanty kinds of looks. They're one of the most likely to include folk embroidery or tone on tone details in the weave of the fabric itself, which I appreciate. Universal Thread also sometimes has rustic, gauzy kinds of items, now that I think of it... Both have been putting out straight size and plus size lines for several years now, though I kind of wonder if a lot of plus size shoppers even know that, since the plus size items almost never appear in stores.
Oh yes I totally forgot about Knox Rose!!
Recently wore my first all thrifted ren fair outfit and got so many compliments! I wish it was possible to find corsets secondhand, still looking for one I like.
Love that!! 🙌🏼 but yeah I think for corsets & secondhand, online is probably best. Finding one in a thrift store is like finding gold 😂
Usually I can find a few in the lingerie section? Not usually the kind I’m looking for but they’re there in a lot of stores
Just bought outfits for myself & my husband at a local thrift store. One thing I did was buy button up shirts, removed the buttons & added grommets with some hemp thread. Turning out so cute!
Such a good idea! Glad it’s coming out cute! 🥰
love these tips, but would also like to see how you put the outfits together like a mini fashion show.
Maybe I’ll do a part 3 soon with some styling 🥰 also check out my tiktok compilation on Ren Faire fantasy outfits, I did put some outfits together in those videos too!
this has probably been said before but the flats with the string are called ghillies
that style of shoe was popular about 2015ish so might end up in thrift stores - they are also a scottish folk dancing shoe
Great tips! The belt is tooled leather
You are right! You can definitely find plus size fantasy core outfits at the thrift stores. I have been thrifting my costumes and renaissance faire outfits for years and I am a plus size girl. Last years my Pirate Halloween costume was 90% thrifted. It's all about the layers.
Thanks for sharing!! I love that 🥰♥️
we need a try on haul to see the outfits.
I'm going to my first ren faire where I'm actually gonna try and have fun, the last one I went to I almost threw up from heat. This time I'm going with a friend who enjoys dressing up, this is going to help me SO much. Thank youuuu
Linen drawstring pants are great. You can wear them under skirts and dresses for colder events.
That first leather belt is embossed, and it is very handsome!
Cato's is a surprising source of alternative clothing of various styles sometimes. I have a black velvet capelet and a burgundy corset-looking belt from there that might work for this style (the cape was thrifted, so I'm not sure how old it is, but the belt was from last fall). It's a very hit or miss thing, though.
Love this! I’ve tried thredup so many times but always give up because I didn’t know how to find what I wanted
Yeah there’s so much stuff and he’s hard to sort though unless you just shop specific brands (which is limiting). But fiddling with the filters has been somewhat helpful for narrowing things down.
I am making corset belts , my daughter is in theater so she needs more peasant clothes , of course I’m in to make some nice items , we also love the renaissance fest … if someone is looking for skirts, what i do is circle table clothes that is the easy way in creating a skirt , cut the circle on top and make the waist with. Wide elastic its so easy , and you have a circle already
I want to dress like this every day!!
Same! 🥰
Quality content!!
I like ThredUp especially as a plus size gal - more options instead of hoping the locals are donating my size lol. More expensive but worth it for things actually my size.
I would love to see more videos about all your thrift flips! Take me on your journey!
I’ve been meaning to schedule the time to work on my thrift flips (& record it) lol. I have a bin full of stuff I need to “flip”’😂 hopefully soon!!
I got a corset very similar to the one you're wearing at a costume store. It was part of a gypsy costume. That may be another source for viewers.
Thank you! I’ve been trying to get the filters right in on thredup too and found a tiered skirt!
I’m still figuring out skirts but yes selecting ruched and/or ruffles has been helpful for that category too for finding interesting pieces. Let me know if you have any other filters you like to use!
Just found your channel because I have recently become obsessed with Ren Fest! Just moved to Texas and will be hitting up the one here multiple times. So I will definitely be using your tips for outfit options!
Yay! Glad to have you 🥰 part 2 is being edited.
Also Mercari and EBay!!
Oh yes!
The belt is tooled leather, I would love a tooled belt or bag. 😍☺
I got to the part where you were talking about shoes and I was like, "Ooh I could find cool fantasy shoes at my local thrift store! How fun!!" and then I remembered that I have super big feet that don't fit into most shoes...
Very cool video though, was a fun watch and you gave some nice tips!
Oh no!! Shoes are hard enough to thrift, but that sounds like a struggle! I do have an idea for a fairy shoe diy for a future Ren Faire/fantasy Diy video that will work with most flats so maybe that’ll be helpful!
@@DressMeUpScotty Ayy, I'm looking forward to it!! Thank you for replying
Awesome video! You rock!
Or in renfair jargon, "thou rocketh, m'Lady"
Love this! lots of great tips and that crushed velvet maroon dres oml so BEAUTIFUL!
I loved that dress so much!! Part of me wishes I kept it haha. But I know it’ll be loved in its new home 🥰
OH MY GOD IVE BEEN NEEEEEDING THIS VIDEO OMG WE LOVE LOVE LOVE
Aww I’m sorry you’ve been having health problems 🥺 but I’m glad my videos have been helping keep your spirits up. Hope things start getting better ❤️ & I’ll be sure to have part 2 w/ the thrift with me up for you soon! ❤️
Recently found your channel. 100% a new top 10! Love your videos
Aww thank you! Glad you’re enjoying my vids ☺️❤️
This is helpful. Thanks for posting. Also thank you for leaving some for us to thrift also!
This is a great video, thank you! I'm going to my first ren faire in August and am hoping to thrift some for it. This was helpful! Also, you can take your adventure boots to a cobbler to get them resoled so you can keep wearing them. My husband fixes shoes and loves fixing up goodwill finds.
COBBLER, thank you 😂 I was thinking along the lines of leatherworkers might have some shoe knowledge, especially ones who deal with equestrian leather goods (a few near me make and repair riding/work boots, saddles, etc.), but I knew there was something more specific and I could not put my finger on it. You saved me a google! :D
aw what a great video idea !!
Loved the video; super insightful! Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it! 🥰♥️
"...you might have to keep changing your combinations..." 😂 ::giggles in history nerd::
So I’ve been watching a ton of your videos today and I’m loving all of the inspiration!!! I am curious about why you don’t celebrate Halloween if you’re okay with sharing! Thanks for all of the tips! 🤍
You should mink oil your leather, it will help your leather items last longer and it waterproofs your leather!
Yes! Good reminder I have a tin of mink oil and I use them on my docs and other leather shoes. Makes my Naturalizer boots look brand new!
i can never get good boots at the thrift store but i use my black work boots bc they’re super sturdy and comfortable and black laced so still the right style but i can walk through anything without worrying about ruining them bc they survived a flood. however my sister wears birks so that works too
Good quality boots are so hard to find at thrift stores. They’re a real gem when you do find them but they are few and far between for sure!
@@DressMeUpScotty i’d also rather save space and money for the docs i want (JADON II NEON STAR LEATHER PLATFORMS IN PINK R U KIDDING) and just use my work boots for literally anything else bc i’m way too picky about boots (not cracking leather, block heel or none, platforms good, no pointed toe) and i’m a 9+ which is impossible to find good shoes at the thrift in my size. plus if you’re gonna splurge on one thing it should probably be shoes
@@lexienmeyers2639 100% agree! Good quality shoes you’ll have for years that fit good are worth the investment for sure. I love my docs and so I am with you! 👏
any tips for thrifting pants for the faire? i’m not sure what styles to look out for in “regular” stores
Hi, was just curious why you don't celebrate Halloween?
I was wondering the same! It’s my favorite holiday. I know it isn’t for everyone, though. 💜
Do you have a video like this for cottagecore? If not would you be interested in making one 🙂?
thought you were Chappel Roan when I saw the thumbnail XD
I'm wondering how you would style one of the Fae who was over 60 for renfaire wear.
This is a little off topic but where did you get your suspenders from? I've scoured Amazon checked your storefront and cannot find any options I like
Can someone please give me a list of standard things to look for? Would be very much appreciated!
Any good ideas for men? Checked out all the websites and didn't find a whole lot of options >->
Being plus size and thrifting for fair is a all year hunt, we just have so much less options 😭
Rennissance...era.....wasn.t......comicon.....newage...types...kept..to....backalleys..n..hedgerows..😊
Kindly, the reason plus size people can't find things in thrift stores is because straight size people buy them as "oversized" clothes for themselves. So, by purchasing a 3x shirt you kind of proved the point that thrifting is hard for plus size people.
美麗
U dont celebrate Halloween omg me 2 !!! Its rlly bad 👎
sorry....too ooogli!buh bye!
