Parkland School Shooter: Hearing on Jail Guard Battery Charge

  • The defense for Parkland School Shooter, the 21-year-old charged in the Parkland mass shooting, is scheduled for a status conference.
Prosecutors said the defendant, a former student at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Broward County, Florida, opened fire there on February 14, 2018. He was charged with 17 counts of murder in the first degree, and 17 counts of attempted murder in the first degree. Cell phone video of the defendant showed him before the shooting: He promised to kill at least 20 people using an AR-15.
His defense has not attempted to deny that he committed the mass killing. Instead, they are trying to save their client from capital punishment.
“Allowing the State to proceed on its notice of intent to seek the death penalty, which does not actually notify the defense of which aggravators the state intends to prove and believes it can prove beyond a reasonable doubt, will result in the defense having no opportunity to meaningfully challenge said evidence through either effective cross-examination or presentation of contrary evidence,” they wrote in one attempt to stop prosecutors from seeking death.
17 people died in the shooting: 14-year-old student Alyssa Alhadeff, 35-year-old teacher Scott Beigel, 14-year-old student Martin Duque Anguiano, 17-year-old student Nicholas Dworet, 37-year-old assistant football coach Aaron Feis, 14-year-old student Jaime Guttenberg, 49-year-old athletic director Christopher Hixon, 15-year-old student Luke Hoyer, 14-year-old student Cara Loughran, 14-year-old student Gina Montalto, 17-year-old student Joaquin Oliver, 14-year-old student Alaina Petty, 18-year-old student Meadow Pollack, 17-year-old student Helena Ramsay, 14-year-old student Alexander Schachter, 16-year-old student Carmen Schentrup, and 15-year-old student Peter Wang.

They do, though. Anyone who has been in a lockdown psychiatric unit can tell you that manic bipolar and people deep in schizophrenic/schizo-affective episodes will get amped and pace around all quick and snap easily. I've seen physical brawls before in those scenarios, but it takes an already-aggressive person (even before the psych episode) to do what Cruz did. Whether he has mental issues or not means nothing if he can be medicated, in or out of an institution, and still be violent.

@@Bubbakush2001 doesn’t matter. He did what he did. Doesn’t mean the state should be treating anyone inhumane, or that we should treat anyone in a similar fashion. He’s going to be in prison for the rest of his life. Might as well make it a comfortable stay with some perks. Yes, perks... I know what he did, but whether he gets a PlayStation in his cell, or a dvd collection (or even access to Netflix), wouldn’t have brought any of the victims back, nor would it mean that he’ll get released. Who cares if he has some form of entertainment in prison? Why would it bother us? And access to good and helpful programs would be nice too. They can be ones for rehabilitation, but they can also be different courses, like physics or math.
We have someone in prison who killed so many people that Nikolas Cruz could be considered small fry. He has a PS2 in one of his three cells. He could be released some day, but I highly doubt he will (we don’t have life sentences). He has also been able to attend university classes, though not in person, as he’s considered extremely dangerous + the entire country hates him, so I don’t imagine it would be wise to let him leave prison for classes. (Prisoners can get permission to do so. The mastermind behind one of the biggest robberies here, where someone got taken as a hostage + a police officer murdered, was seen from time to time on the bus, going back and forth between prison and the university.) You’ll probably see him on the news again soon, as he’s eligible for parole + he’s going to sue the state again, and just like the last time he made international headlines for suing the state, the court will probably be held in the prison’s gym for safety reasons. My point is... despite this killer, who murdered around 70 children + a few more), having all these perks... does it really sound like he’s having a good time? He’s been in isolation for ten years now. I say, let these folks have their entertainment. Doesn’t hurt anyone.

I understand that that on RUclips everyone has freedom of speech. But we literally have people who don’t bother to get the most fundamental education about our legal system before making a opinions in the public Forum. Please educate yourself before talking
