    There's a story I heard about this song. George Jones didn't want to record this song, but his label pressured him to do it. After laying down his vocals, he supposedly said "Ain't nobody gonna buy that morbid son of a bitch." It went on to became not only his biggest hit, but one of the most beloved and recognizable songs in country music.

    Widely considered the greatest country song of all time.
    Also, it came out in 1980 when George’s career had tanked (They used to call him “No Show Jones” caused he’d get trashed and miss shows) and this song brought him back to the top.

      @maryannanderson2213 2 года назад +3

      Thanks for giving credit to the actual writers of this song. Braddock and Putnam were both dynamite lyricists and they couldn't have had anyone better to record it than George Jones, who did not want to record it because he said it was so damn sad that no one would buy it. This became his biggest record EVER..

    • @jaydeutscher
      @jaydeutscher Год назад

      Braddock and Putnam did not consider this to be one of their best songs; they had written for both “King George” and his ex wife Tammy Wynette, “The Queen of Country Music”, both individually and as a duet. The legendary Billy Sherrill produced both George and Tammy - and he was responsible for finally convincing George, who absolutely hated the song, to record it. At this point in his life, George had become an alcoholic/addict to the point that he gained the nickname “No-Show Jones” because of his chronic habit of standing his audiences up. He hadn’t had a hit in six years, and he was at the rock bottom of his career and his life. Billy Sherrill had huge problems getting George recorded; he showed up to sessions drunk, he flubbed the lyrics, he couldn’t remember the tune, and he slurred his words. Sherrill stuck with him, finally cutting and splicing the finished song together. Even then, George to Sherrill, “Nobody will buy this morbid son of a bitch.” During one session, Tammy coincidentally came into the studio where she sat in the sound booth talking to Sherrill, who later said that the timbre of Jones’s voice changed to the melancholic tone that made it famous. When it was released, it immediately shot to #1 on the charts, and King George, who had gotten his life straightened out, was back. He said his four decade career was saved by a three minute song.

      @@BourbonCountryReacts Well, in that case, if you want a classic from one of the ladies of country music, You Ain't Woman Enough To Take My Man by Lorette Lynn. Anything by Dolly. A great story song is The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia by Reba, but I suggest the official video, because it plays out almost like a movie. Actually, a lot of Reba songs have videos that do that. But Seven Spanish Angels is just Willie and Ray Charles at a piano singing like the legends they are. And while some might argue it isn't country, Lady by Kenny Rogers is a must watch; the live version, where he sings it about ten days after it was released. It was written for him by Lionel Richie in 1980.

My daddy would play it on guitar and sing it to my momma . So before he passed away he called my mom and said two songs are for you 1 I will always love you by Dolly and 2 He stopped loving her today . He told her two days before he died . Biggest mistake was leaving you Kay , and marring Linda ( stepmonster ) . My mom never dated another man loved my daddy till we buried her . @@BourbonCountryReacts That would be cool. I'm just afraid the OG's wouldn't get enough votes to move very many up the line. Thanks again your channel is very unique and fun to watch.

    Funny fact: After George was done recording this song. He said, “nobody’s gonna fucking listen to that piece of shit.” Boy was he wrong.

    Two Quick points, the animal on top of the Caribou Crossing Whisky is a Caribou, not a Moose. Cool creatures, definitely worth making a trip up north to hunt them in their annual migration. Secondly, it is distilled in Canada but bottled at the Buffalo Trace facility. It's not really a traditional Canadian whisky, but that isn't a bad thing. Cheers from 🇨🇦

    Since I don’t have a vast bourbon collection like Dustin, I’ve started pairing these videos with my favorite cigar and a small glass of whatever is left in the liquor cabinet.
    The songs hit different with a good Monte Christo

    I lie the lady vocalist covering the melody while George spoke the last verse. Some of my favorite George Jones songs are 'She's My Rock.' 'Golden Ring' (with Tammy Wynette) and the goofy, upbeat 'I'm a People."

    I have a bottle of every crown on the market today, and some that are no longer produced. EXCEPT the original, purple pouch crown. I hate it. So I totally agree with your penny wang comment.

    There's a few songs before Queen that went longer than 3 minutes. Don McClain and Skynyrd come to mind. As for the Country Genre, that was controlled by Chet Adkins all through the '70's and early '80's. He's a big reason for the "Outlaw" movement.

    Thank you, I grew up in a house with George Jones. George was great in concert. Female O.G. Patsy Cline Crazy or I fall to pieces both great song. Oh good lord I remember Lawrence Welk, not at all the Led Zeppelin or AC/DC that I listened to. Quick question was that bottle full before you started? 🎵🎶🎉🎉🥃🥃
