I saw the exact moment you realized that the reason he stopped loving her was because he died. Your face told the story and I immediately thought, "Aha! He gets it!". I'm glad you understood the symbolism of the wreath on the door. Also, in spite of that wreath on the door and "soon they'll carry him away " (pallbearers), "first time I've seen him smile in years" (undertakers usually put a slight smile on the face of the deceased), "I didn't see a tear" (no, because he's dead!), etc. etc. many reactors totally miss the fact that he died. The most bizarre reaction to this song I ever saw was the person who was grinning from ear to ear as he rejoiced in the fact that the man finally put her behind him and moved on to another relationship. NO NO NO NO NO! He said "I'll love you till I die" and he did just that. He loved her until he died. Country music is not primarily about the beat or the instruments or even the tune. It is about the story and those reactors who missed the story missed the whole point of the song! No wonder so many people don't like country music. THEY DON'T LISTEN! Great reaction! FYI, when they pitched this song to George he did not want to record it. He reportedly said, "It's too damn sad and no one will want to listen to it." He was slightly wrong because actually this turned out to be his biggest hit! Another Jones song that I would love to see you react to is 50,000 Names.
Thank you, great analysis! George Jones touched so many hearts during his legendary career. Another George you may appreciate is George Strait (another legend, although younger than George Jones). He also has many heartfelt songs that you may like.
At first George didn't want to release this song. He thought it was to morbid. No one likes song's about death. It's now one of the greatest song's ever
He said, "I'll love you 'til I die." She said, "Aww you'll forget in time." He was right, she was wrong. He loved her until he died then finally stopped.
"He Stopped Loving Her Today" us ABSOLUTELY AND POSITIVELY THE GREATEST COUNTRY AND WESTERN SONG OF ALL TIME!!!! NO ONE can sing this particular song quite like "THE POSSUM!!!" WOW!!! This particular song ALWAYS ALWAYS sends shivers down my spine and I NEVER EVER TIRE LISTENING to this particular song when I first heard it over forty years ago. Indeed, GEORGE JONES IS MOST CERTAINLY AND DEFINITELY THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME!!!! THE G.O.A.T. !!!!!!! 🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐
Rarely can I hear a Possum song without hearing my father's voice. As well as Merle Haggard, Vern Gosdin, Johnny Rodriguez, and so many more. I grew up surrounded by this music, being sung by family and friends, around the picnic table, kitchen table, and just standing under a tree picking the guitar. I appreciate it now so much more than I did then.
There is a reason it has been voted the #1 country song of all times repeatedly. It became George Jones’s signature song (he did not want to record it he said “It’s too damn sad”). I remember seeing the special 100 greatest country music songs, they would announce the song, talk to the artist, talk to the songwriter talk to other artists who were influenced by that song. When it came to “He Stopped Loving Her Today” they cut to Maya Angelou (not exactly the first name when you think of country music) she said, “This song tells the story of unrequited love in less than four minutes better and more beautifully than some thousand page novels”. This was 10-15 years ago I have not heard anyone sum it up better than that.
George jones Is be called the greatest singer ever. Waylon is if all sound like we would sound like George jones. I had the honor of seeing him a lot and talk to him was a family friend. He was a very humble man. His book I lived to tell it all was a best selling book
Many people when they listen to this don't listen close enough and understand what it was really about. I'm not surprised at all that you immediately understood.
I love the reaction to this song. Because eveyone says what the heck you mean he died loving her. Yes, he died loving her the wreath on the door and carried him away. He did die loving her.
George is from my neck of the woods in SE Tx. Back in the 80's he was a neighbor of my parent's & we all worked at his music park, club & restaurant. He was a down to earth country boy despite his fame.
Good on you bloke. I can't tell you how many of these I've watched where people didn't get that he died. Sadly, they are mostly young minorities. Don't know why that is. I share your sentiments. I have seen a few dozen of these reaction pieces to this song and I shed a tear each time because the combination of the voice, the music and the lyrics are that powerfully moving. And because I've carried a torch for a woman I dated for a year who left town to go to college and met another. That was 1977. I drove her to the airport the day Elvis Presley died. I'll never forget it.
I know a guy who is exactly as this song describes he has pictures of a woman that he has loved since high school and she basically told him that her friends were more important but he does not want to be with anybody else so he lives by himself has kept pictures and every text message, email and letter that she has given him, and he has said that he will never be with anybody else he will die alone, because he truly loves her. Even though deep down he knows she’s never coming back. He can’t let her go.
George was my dad's favorite singer. I didn't appreciate him when I was young but I do now. I like some of his earlier songs which are more upbeat, like White Lightnin' and The Race is On. But he can tear your heart out with songs like this, as well as The Grand Tour and The Door.
you are one of few reactors who understand this song and that he died. if you get the chance, check out some of George Jones with Tammy Wynette, which was his wife for a brief period. also, another couple of songs by George Jones that are great - The Grand Tour and I Don't Need No Rocking Chair. glad you did this one...thanks
blair kimberlin late to the reaction but loved it. this song was voted best song of the year, then song of the decade, then song of the century and finally best country song ever written PERIOD! talk about an honor
This is one of the best if not THE best country songs every written or performed. I always tear up when I hear it, but I’ll tell you…Alan Jackson singing this at George’s memorial at the Grand Ol Opry…with his wife sitting right there in front was one of the saddest things I’ve ever seen or heard. Wow.
One reason I love to watch your reactions is that you interpret the lyrics so well. You truly listen to the words and you show your emotions on your face. I look forward to every new reaction. You're my #1 favorite. Blessings 🙏
Fun fact about this song. George was originally not going to do this song. He said and I quote "This is the saddest damn song I've ever seen, it'll never take off." He didn't agree to sing it until weeks of pressure from his manager and the producers
You are one of the very few who actually listen to the songs. Thank you Bubba. If that generator thingy ever spits out another Brooks & Dunn, I hope it’s Boot scootin’ boogie. You’ll love it.
I watch a lot of these reaction videos, and so far , you're the only one that got it . I can't tell you how many people said he looks like Jim Carrey .
You did good ! Not all reactors get "it" on the first playthrough. Another sad song that's far more obvious is Mac Davis - "Whoever Finds This, I Love You"
This was my Daddys song. Him and Momma was Married 23 Years then they divorced. He never remarried so when he passed in 2001 He stopped loving her. I got to see George in concert when he did this song I shed tears for my Dad. Today is his Birthday. Happy BD Daddy R.I.P. I know U R chaseing her around up there. Lol
George is such an amazing Country singer. One of the best ever. You should check out him singing "The Grand Tour". He loved Tammy Wynette, and never got over losing her. It was a true love/hate relationship. Tammy has a great catalog of her own iconic Country music. She and George are Country music royalty. George was notoriously known for getting drunk and not being able to perform. His nickname was "No Show Jones ", and was also known as "Possum " due to his small, close set eyes. I got to see him in person twice .He was completely wasted both times, but he DID show up! Bless him and may he RIP.
I've seen quite a few reactions where they never get that he died. I can understand that in some areas they may not pick up on the meaning of the wreath but they should pick up on "soon they'll carry him away." Any southerner my age would get it very quickly.
You might like the George Jones video, “Who’s Gonna Fill Their Shoes”. It’s touching to those who have followed country music & the stars who are no longer around.
No if she had died that wouldn't stop him loving her it would set it in stone , he said in the beginning of the song he'd love her tell the day he died
My American husband introduced me to C/W music. I never heard of C/W in Germany. First song I heard, was this one. I didn't understand the words, but his voice touched me deeply. The only one that comes pretty close was Alan Jackson when he sang this song at George Jones funeral. I think he almost broke down when he sang his song. We only have very few real C/W singers left. I don't like the new country they came out with. Miss hearing the moaning of the steel guitar and the sound of the fiddle.

I love watching reactions to this song for that very reason! This guy was a little later than most!
His exact words were, “Here! You’ve got your song, but nobody’s gonna buy THAT morbid son of a bitch.” Ended up being his best selling record.
@Maryann Anderson: I always like reading your posts---good job!! 🙂

Maybe the greatest country song of all time!!
It has been voted the greatest country song of all time.
You are exactly right! He said “ill love her til I die” and he did. True country, right there my friend! Keep going!! You get it!!!
At first George didn't want to release this song. He thought it was to morbid. No one likes song's about death. It's now one of the greatest song's ever
Best country song ever written
He said, "I'll love you 'til I die." She said, "Aww you'll forget in time." He was right, she was wrong. He loved her until he died then finally stopped.
He said "I'll love you 'til i die." and he kept his promise.
"He Stopped Loving Her Today" us ABSOLUTELY AND POSITIVELY THE GREATEST COUNTRY AND WESTERN SONG OF ALL TIME!!!! NO ONE can sing this particular song quite like "THE POSSUM!!!" WOW!!! You’re the first reaction I’ve seen that understands the song the first time.
Yes. So many don't get it. Love his voice. Great reaction yet again.
For a real tear jerker, GRAND TOUR is a must. Aaron Neville did a cover of this song and it’s just as touching as George’s version.
He loved her till his last breath. One of my favorite country songs. Beautiful but so very very sad.
The harmonica just cries in this song
Even George Jones said it was the sadest song ever written.
George is a legend. You need to do his 'Whose gonna fill their shoes'. A deep song to the country music genre.
He stopped loving her today is my favorite song of his but who's gonna fill their shoes is a close second
Yes!
The Grand Tour is quite a tear-jerker too.
I am fortunate enough to have seen him sing this song in person. Tore my heart out.
George had stopped drinking finally after years of alcohol abuse and this was his last number one and became his signature song.
George had a lot of songs out. I like his song. Who's gonna fill their shoes.
Legendary
Nobody. This is some of the best music ever performed but nobody plays it like this anymore.
58 year career and 130 studio Albums. He had tons of songs out lol
You got it right away! Most reactors don't get it until they read the comments section after uploading.
That's country music , man. 4 chords and the truth. It gets to you every time.
He said he'd love her till he died.
And he died.
Quite a sad song.
I think it's both sad and beautiful because I don't think the two have to be mutually exclusive
React to his Who's Going to Fill Their Shoes please. Thanks. ❤❤❤❤❤
Yep! He loved her til the day he died. I love other countries listening to the words to songs in America
And watching for the reaction
George jones Is be called the greatest singer ever. Waylon is if all sound like we would sound like George jones. I had the honor of seeing him a lot and talk to him was a family friend. He was a very humble man. His book I lived to tell it all was a best selling book
First line of the song is the ENTIRE MEANING OF THE SONG! But so many people miss it until the end of the song.
Yes. One of the most beautifully written, tragic songs. For more upbeat by him, the Corvette Song makes my smile every time.
Agreed - The Race is On is a favorite fun one too.
This song brought George's career out of the ashes. This was voted the greatest country song ever written. The great Bobby Braddock wrote this
Many people when they listen to this don't listen close enough and understand what it was really about.
I'm not surprised at all that you immediately understood.
YES!!!!!!!! someone finally got it. You are the only one to pick up on the "wreath upon his door"...
Me and my Twin sister saw him atleast 15 times in concerts and even got to get on his tour bus with him
Doesn't matter where I come in, I just instantly choke up.
I love the reaction to this song. Because eveyone says what the heck you mean he died loving her. Yes, he died loving her the wreath on the door and carried him away. He did die loving her.
The best country music singer there is! Enjoy!
George is from my neck of the woods in SE Tx. Back in the 80's he was a neighbor of my parent's & we all worked at his music park, club & restaurant. He was a down to earth country boy despite his fame.
yes, ...'who's gonna fill their shoes'...a great TRIBUTE song...you should enjoy it(now that you are familiar with Elvis, Johnny Cash, etc.
Yes you got it right
Good on you bloke. I can't tell you how many of these I've watched where people didn't get that he died. Sadly, they are mostly young minorities. Don't know why that is. I share your sentiments. Finally someone that got the message of the song

At start of the song when she walked away she said he would forget her. She came to see him one more time before he died he died that day.
Such a sad song by the great George Jones. First time I head this, I broke down and cried. great reaction!
I meant heard
U Sir are a Gentleman. U respected the and let it Play. Thank you

Loved watching your face when you heard about the wreath on the door. So many reactors don't realize he died.
Played this for my dad's funeral! They divorced when I was less than a year. We took care of him in his final years but he always loved her!
It was clear from the first line “ He said I’ll love you till I die”
blair kimberlin
late to the reaction but loved it. this song was voted best song of the year, then song of the decade, then song of the century and finally best country song ever written PERIOD! talk about an honor
"He said I'll love her 'til I die."
He tells you in the very first line.
You’re exactly right my friend.
Best voice of all time

We need to get the word out about this channel. It’s done with great music and professionalism. This sight should have 225,000 subscribers at least
You can do weeks worth of reactions to ole George. True legend.
The first sentence says he’ll love her until he dies and he did.
You are one of the very few who actually listen to the songs. Thank you Bubba. If that generator thingy ever spits out another Brooks & Dunn, I hope it’s Boot scootin’ boogie. You’ll love it.
Yep, very first line, I'll love you till I die, said it all.
Old George what amazing singer grew listening to now for 40 year's and still day .
I watch a lot of these reaction videos, and so far , you're the only one that got it . I can't tell you how many people said he looks like Jim Carrey .
Watch the official video of The Gospel According to Jones..
He definitely looked like Jim in those clips..
You did good ! Not all reactors get "it" on the first playthrough.
Another sad song that's far more obvious is Mac Davis - "Whoever Finds This, I Love You"
HE kept his promise HE WILL LOVE HER, TILL THE DAY HE DIE..
This will always be my favorite country music song...it'll be; if you've ever loved someone so much..the only time it'll end; is when you do😪😉🤠
Charlie Rich-Behind closed Doors-a legend of all time.
Two must listen to songs from George are I Don't Need No Rockin Chair and Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes.
"He said I'll love you till I die"...
Lol
Country music loves throwing those little twists in the story! LOL! Keeps their audience on their toes...
This is the greatest country music song ever written. The only reason he stopped is he’s dead. Great story.
Yes you're correct about the meaning of the song
George is such an amazing Country singer. One of the best ever. You should check out him singing "The Grand Tour". He loved Tammy Wynette, and never got over losing her. first line, "he said I'll love you til I die"
Congrats....1 in 50 actually "get it"....And you did...
I love the expressions as you figured it out
I've seen quite a few reactions where they never get that he died.
I can understand that in some areas they may not pick up on the meaning of the wreath but they should pick up on "soon they'll carry him away."
Any southerner my age would get it very quickly.
This song has always made me cry! So very touching. I can't imagine having someone love me to that extent. So sad.
Love this song.
Absolute classic! Thank you for your reaction❤️❤️❤️❤️
CLASSIC!!!!
If you want to hear more of George Jones, listen to The Grand tour...It will tug at your heart as this one did.
Yes you are correct.
My sister’s favorite singer.
You might like the George Jones video, “Who’s Gonna Fill Their Shoes”. It’s touching to those who have followed country music & the stars who are no longer around.
This is the one that you cry in your beer over.
Thank you for sharing this with me
I am 72 years and cannot remember a time without George until he died and I really miss him.
The Corvette Song (One I Loved Back Then)
Tennessee Whiskey
White Lightning
I Don't Need Your Rocking Chair
So, so many great George Jones songs.
No if she had died that wouldn't stop him loving her it would set it in stone , he said in the beginning of the song he'd love her tell the day he died
Country Music legend
This was my 12th birthday.... 7-1-1968
First line of the song: He said I’ll love til I die…
Probably the best love song ever written, by one of the the western singers ever!
Alan Jackson sang a touching version of this at George’s Memorial Service.
Your reactions always bring peace and joy.
My American husband introduced me to C/W music. I never heard of C/W in Germany. First song I heard, was this one. I didn't understand the words, but his voice touched me deeply. Wonderful reaction! George Jones is an Icon of Country Music! One of my favorites!
The greatest love song ever!
