I had the fortunate luck to know George and Tammy's daughter, Georgette. I, like you, grew up on classic country as my father is a musician who plays steel guitar. I followed by being a bass player and drummer and sound engineer so music has always spoken to my soul. I'm 62 and I grew up on country music. My dad took me to the original Grand Ole Opory. They're didn't have AC there so they're passed out fans on a stick. There was a door where all the artist would leave thru. I stood there all thru The show and I got every performer that played that night and some that didn't I had over 50 autographs. But thru time I lost it would be hard telling what that fan would be worth today. Because there not a name on it to where a artist signed that is living today. Sorry about the rant as you would say. Wow that's a heck of a loss, you have the memory intact though. I saw George at a picnic/pig roast when I was little, but I really had no clue about him, if he performed I don't recall it, I remember more sitting with my dad, dad introducing me, etc., I felt like a grown up lol. So, although I can't remember George, it's still a great memory for me, and story to tell my grandkids, who never met either man.

If you have time look up "Tales from the tour bus". It was the most hysterical look at some of these famous country singers. I learned and laughed a lot. I'm sorry you had such a hard time coming up but you seem to have it all together now. I also watched Lawrence Welk with my grandparents, the Porter Waggoner Show and etc. I loved my mamaw and papaw just about more than life itself. Never liked that nickname his so called friends and drinking buddies gave him. He was a bad alcoholic, so he probably didn't need someone calling him unflattering names even if it was in fun. On numerous occasions a musical artist would put there arm around him on stage and call him either the best or just his personal favorite. It always shocked him when they did that. Because he didn't know how good he really was.
My Daddy wonted and had this played at his funeral ! This man Gorge Jones done it like no other. He stopped loving her today well bring the tears, put a warning sign on it! RIP Gorge! In Tennessee a reef up on your door said grieving/ a lose of a loved one all dressed up to go a way was a suit or dress they would be on them for the funeral and what you would meet GOD in, so it was the best of the best. I am going through the same thing as the song says. I am happily married and I have been going on 39 years 😃.But I had my heart broken way back in 1979. I have never gotten over her. Well you really got me on this one, I'm a mess, a 54 year old male in a mess of tears. I've never stopped loving a girl that had left me after a 7 years relationship. It's nearly 30 years after the fact and I still think of her nearly every day. I did send her a very long heartfelt letter about 5 years ago but I have not heard back. Every time I get a telephone call that says nothing and then shortly afterwards hangs up, I can't help but think it's her trying to call. I don't want to send another letter if she's not into receiving one, so I keep waiting and wishing she would talk to me . At least she knows, "I'll love her till I die" .... When they first pitched this song to him he didn't want to record it because he said no one would like this sad song. It went on to become his biggest hit.
I understand the meaning of the song. My parents have been married for 67 years, almost unheard of now. My mother has said that when my dad goes she is going too. I can't imagine either of them without the other so this song is pertinent.
I have been with my husband 46 years . And will die too . Of a broken heart .

They called him possum because of his close set eyes and a great documentary on him said that maybe he wasn't the brightest of people but he did know how to put over a song. If you have time look up "Tales from the tour bus". It was the most hysterical look at some of these famous country singers. I learned and laughed a lot. I'm sorry you had such a hard time coming up but you seem to have it all together now. I also watched Lawrence Welk with my grandparents, the Porter Waggoner Show and etc. I loved my mamaw and papaw just about more than life itself. So, if they wanted to watch Lawrence Welk then I enjoyed it too. You and I are both alike in that we both feel the music and think about the message. We are either blessed from the ability or sometimes cursed. Sorry you were in the foster care system. Sending out all the love and kisses you might have missed growing up. Never liked that nickname his so called friends and drinking buddies gave him.
He was a bad alcoholic, so he probably didn't need someone calling him unflattering names even if it was in fun.
On numerous occasions a musical artist would put there arm around him on stage and call him either the best or just his personal favorite.
It always shocked him when they did that. Because he didn't know how good he really was.

My Daddy wonted and had this played at his funeral ! This man Gorge Jones done it like no other. He stopped loving her today well bring the tears, put a warning sign on it! RIP Gorge! In Tennessee a reef up on your door said grieving/ a lose of a loved one all dressed up to go a way was a suit or dress they would be on them for the funeral and what you would meet GOD in, so it was the best of the best. I am going through the same thing as the song says. I am happily married and I have been going on 39 years 😃.But I had my heart broken way back in 1979. I have never gotten over her. I still have her in my heart ❤️ and I hate it so much. Like I said before I love ❤️ my Wife.But I still can’t for the life of me get over her. There is not a day that goes by that she still goes through my head. I.get so depressed sometimes thinking about her. I just want to forget her but I never will. This is something that I will carry with me the rest of my life and I can not tell a soul.
Well you really got me on this one, I'm a mess, a 54 year old male in a mess of tears. I've never stopped loving a girl that had left me after a 7 years relationship. It's nearly 30 years after the fact and I still think of her nearly every day. I did send her a very long heartfelt letter about 5 years ago but I have not heard back. Every time I get a telephone call that says nothing and then shortly afterwards hangs up, I can't help but think it's her trying to call.
I don't want to send another letter if she's not into receiving one, so I keep waiting and wishing she would talk to me . At least she knows, "I'll love her till I die" ....
