Absolutely!!! It was apparently just intended to be kind of a fun live concert sing-along type song. Not released originally released as a single. But wives and girlfriends kept calling up and requesting it!! Keith, you are not listening to this one for the guitar playing (well as much as you can say that about any of Brad's songs). But the lyrics are absolutely frigging hilarious.
My best friends got married 07/07/07 @ 7:00pm. Ticks was popular at this time. At the wedding rehearsal while saying his vows my friend tacks "I'll check you for ticks" as his last vow to his wife to be. We had a huge laugh! These two are meant to be together, the stars aligned. So, during the ceremony, we were those of us from rehearsal were wondering what we were going to hear. Sure enough, at the end of the vows came a quiet, "check you for ticks". That quiet moment went through the small gathering and you felt the love & laughter that would be part of their lives. Beautiful.
Love the reactions and interactions between you two. Gona give another vote for Celebrity video by Brad, but my favorite video of his is Mud on the Tires. you can't talk about country guitarists without mentioning Vince Gill. I think the best showcase of his playing is Oklahoma Boarderline but he does a lot of great songs playing his guitar both acoustic and electric.
Absolutely. I mean after all, Mark Knopfler invited him to join Dire Straits back when he was a studio musician. That ought to say something about his ability.
This is such a great song and Brad Paisley has plenty. My other favorites of his are Part Two, Then, Remind Me (with Carrie Underwood), He Didn’t Have To Be, Letter To Me, I Wish You’d Stay, Who Needs Pictures, I’ve Been Better, Holdin’ On To You, Alcohol, Celebrity, I'm Still a Guy, and Water.

Keith is my dude! Dire Straits... they are literally the sultans of swing; or rather classic rock - period. I definitely hear the resemblance here. FYI, I'm only 27 but grew up on "classic" rock. This is big time Mark Knopfler style! It's Dire Straits meets...well Brad Paisley. Keith, get a napkin, we don't drool in polite society🤣🤣. The lyrics are fun, the guitar playing, that was drooled for, is fantastic! Love the reaction!!
One of the things about Brad Paisley's guitar licks and solos is that they often are jazz-based. Occasionally he will have pentatonic, blues-based, but he has a lot of jazz influences. So him being a Mark Knopfler fan makes perfect sense.
Yeah, but he doesn't do the one thing most jazz guitarists do, that drives me absolutely nuts. They nerd out so hard on modal playing, that they completely leave/lose the song's melody. It literally gives me a headache trying to tie their weirdness back to the original melody of the song. "How is this in any way relevant to this song, and not turning into random notes?" I'm not even kidding. A lot of jazz literally gives me a headache, because I can't stop doing that. That's not to say that I want everything to be nice, simple, and diatonic. I do like some complexity when the song calls for it. But hardcore jazz guys drive me nuts. Fortunately, I haven't heard Brad do that, or I would have screeched about it on channel. - Keith
If you enjoyed that, Keith, you must watch Nervous Breakdown by Brad. The video is 14 years old but I fully believe it will cause you to reach nirvana. It was filmed in a potato but you can still see his finger work. :)

Personally, I think Brad's influences are a little of Mark Knopfler, but it is mainly greats like Vince Gill, Chet Atkins, Steve Wariner, Glen Campbell, Roy Clarke, and Buck Owens. I've seen a few videos of Brad being the junior member on stage playing with Vince, Steve, and a few other greats. One thing about Brad's live performances is he'd prank or get pranked by the other acts, and sometimes they'd come on stage to sing with him. With "Ticks" in particular, Taylor Swift (before she abandoned country music) and Kelly Pickler used to come out on stage in ticks costumes, and either Jack Ingram or Joe Nichols would come on stage as an exterminator and spray Taylor and Kellie off. Somewhere there are videos of the live pranks, particularly where they'd tease each other in videos played for the concert goers. Just made it a fun and funny atmosphere that was playful.

I can hear Buck's influence in every song we've heard from Brad. Not sure I've heard Beck's, but, that's not saying it isn't there. I've always respected Beck as a guitar player, but he's not really in my listening rotation, so, I might miss it. And hell, let's be honest. Anyone who's picked up a guitar in the last 40 years has been influenced at least a little by Joe Walsh and crowd with the Eagles. - Keith
Funny little tidbit about this song. When Brad 1st played this song to his wife who was close to having the 2nd child she laughed so hard her water broke and went into labor.
There's a video doing the rounds of Brad throwin' down with his DJ, and maaate, he goes OFF!!! and never misses a note...he is that good... you should see him do "Hot For Teacher"... it's goooood..... also on Mark Knopfler, you really need to listen to the whole album "Brothers In Arms", it is an experience, and a journey and it should be on everybody's play list... the title track is one of my favourites, along with "Telegraph Road", and for a giggle, there's "Industrial Disease"... Back in the late 80s, early 90s, when the band were at a high point, they were touring Australia, Mark Knopfler agreed to grant a young kid a Make-A-Wish request, the young bloke's name is Nathan Cavaleri, he absolutely blew everyone's socks off and he is still playing today...

I can't wait until the Bourbon I'm sending you gets here, because the Vince Gill song I'm going to request will definitely cement him in the Brad, Keith, Vince mix of master guitarist in Nashville and Vince was actually first. Mark Knopfler came to see Vince to offer him the job of guitarist with Dire Straights, and Vince had to turn it down because he'd just signed a Country contract with a Label, he's played with the Eagles for a few years post main country years and he's probably been guitarist on more rock records than you've realized you've heard. He plays on Bluegrass, rock, country, christian...you name it if someone wants a good guitar player they call Vince Gill. Brad's main influence may shock you they were Eddie Van Halen, that's the first person he learned to play a riff from, Buck Owens, John Jorgenson, Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, the Eagles and the Stones. And he actually does read music...some, as to where Keith Urban who plays killer guitar and piano plays completely by ear and does not read a lick of music, its ridiculous. This was a fun song for Brad and it let hit guitar skills shine. I'm not sure you should listen to it while driving Keith, I'm worried your might get lost in that guitar and have a wreck! lol Great reaction guys!!
A crash is unlikely. Not due to the music anyway. I can /drive/. Any crash I'm in will be due to my failure to predict something incredibly stupid done by another driver. Anyways, any guitar player worth the price of his pick (23 cents or so) is going to have multiple influences. Interestingly enough, as much as I like Mark Knopfler, he really isn't one of mine. I love listening to his style, but don't really enjoy playing it. Probably because I'm not any good at playing it. In this song, the Knopfler influence wasn't even a little bit subtle. The song was, well, in a way, a tribute to him, guitar-wise. And a damned good one. As we mentioned in the video, I think Brad would be pleased with that comparison. - Keith
My brother 'tortured' me with heavy metal music as a child. Now that I am older, I have a better appreciation for it. And I actually like a lot of it, now. I think Brad was probably heavily influenced by Dire Straits. As I think I've mentioned before, country music artists have many surprising influences. Brad is great, whatever you hear, as you are beginning to understand.
My brother practiced in our dining room, with his band.Led zeppelin and the Beatles is what I heard. He is retired now but was one of the best and played with the best.He could never figure out why I like country ,till now that he's older.
Alcohol and Online are to of my favorites to laugh to. Is there anything Brad CAN'T do?! Also, I have a feeling you two could appreciate and enjoy I'm Still a Guy.
when i was living in tampa kieth urban put on a show in fact he was giving away his guitar in the crowd and was about 5 feet from me i tried to get a pic but everyone kept jumping up in my shot ... dammit
For my part, it's largely stuff that would definitely be considered "old school." I was a big Metallica fan until '92 or so. Megadeth. Slayer. Stuff along those lines. And definitely Ozzy, from Black Sabbath on through to his latest stuff. I listened to some of the hair bands. Mainly the ones that had amazing guitar players, and there were actually quite a few of them. - Keith
Brad Paisley is an extraordinary guitarist. If you ever get a chance see if you can find a very early episode of Austin City limits that he starred on. Back at the beginning of his career. But you need to focus on his forebearers you need to focus on the old g guitarist that came before him because some of the stuff they did was absolutely exceptional. I know you've got a huge list of Roy Clark Buck Owens and Glen Campbell and the absolute Master guitarist Chet Atkins. What they could and did do with guitars was exceptional. What Roy Clark did was stringed instruments. Was exceptional if it had strings Roy Clark could and did play it. In one performance out there alive performance he plays guitar fiddle and banjo. All in one song. Please please check out some of these truly great guitarists because these guys were great guitarists in the country tradition back in the 60s 70s and '80s they are legends for a very very good reason.
If you really want to geek out on some awesome guitar playing with Mark Knopfler, check out the video called, “Mark Knopfler & Chet Atkins - Instrumental Medley”. I would also recommend some Tommy Emmanuel. Awesome guitar player and entertainer. Enjoyed the reaction.
I've seen the Mark/Chet vid. Also, highly familiar with Tommy Emmanuel. I'll throw one back at you to check out. Molly Tuttle. She is incredible. In her own way, she's legit on par with Tommy. And, if you've heard Tommy, you understand how bold a claim that is. - Keith
I've never saw a live version that Brad isn't having fun. He truely loves what does. Kieth I thought you were going to have a guitargasm. Vince Gill was invited to join the Dire Straits.
If you would like to hear a surprise. Here is a link to a live video from 1980's with Ken Curtis ( Festus of Gunsmoke ) tv show. He actually was the lead singer of the country group The Sons Of The Pioneers from 1949 to 1952. I grew up listening to The Sons Of The Pioneers and watching Gunsmoke in the early 50's to early 60's. I think you will be surprised.ruclips.net/video/fWR6FLnPack/видео.html

@@BourbonCountryReacts how did I miss this?! I feel ashamed. I thought I binged them all. Lol
Love me some Dire Straits!! Walk of Life:)
Yeah, me too. I think "Sultans of Swing" is on every playlist I have. - Keith
when i was living in tampa kieth urban put on a show in fact he was giving away his guitar in the crowd and was about 5 feet from me i tried to get a pic but everyone kept jumping up in my shot ... dammit
lol, crowds will do that. - Keith
Vince gill at George Jones funeral is some awesome guitar playing
What kind of rock do you listen to
For my part, it's largely stuff that would definitely be considered "old school." I was a big Metallica fan until '92 or so. Megadeth. Slayer. Stuff along those lines. And definitely Ozzy, from Black Sabbath on through to his latest stuff. I listened to some of the hair bands. Mainly the ones that had amazing guitar players, and there were actually quite a few of them. - Keith
Keith and Brad both are masters at their craft. You will eventually come to see and hear that.
All those older legends you mentioned, I'm familiar with. - Keith
Please review Jennifer Nettles O Holy Night/Hallelujah
Mr. Policeman would make the driving playlist, unless you're afraid of getting arrested.
Got it!
- Keith
Brad has always said that Mark Knoffler is his main guitar influence.
That shines through quite clearly in this song. - Keith
Mark Knopfler is awesome. Brad has an album of just instrumentals. Also awesome
Always react to brad live. That's his best guitar stuff
Brad Paisley and Keith Urban are some of the best guitar players in Nashville
look for his video when he gets into a duel with another guitar player and his drummer he does a great rendishion of van halen eruption
I've never saw a live version that Brad isn't having fun. He truely loves what does. Kieth I thought you were going to have a guitargasm. Vince Gill was invited to join the Dire Straits.
lol, I was pretty close to a guitargasm. I was really digging the riffs and fills Brad was throwing in. - Keith
I'm uncomfortable now... -Dustin
@@BourbonCountryReacts LOL 😆
Keith urban doing a bee gees song live "TO LOVE SOMEBODY"
There’s a lot of Chet Atkins in Brad’s style as well.
Speaking of ZZ Top, Brad does a cover of Sharp Dressed Man (with ZZ Top making a cameo).

Not a full music video, but search out and find him playing "Hot For Teacher" with a kid playing the drums.
As a guitar player how about Brads instrumentals? Nervous Breakdown, Time Warp, Throttleneck to name a few. The guitar work is incredible.
