  • Honeywell Thermostat 5.2 Models RTH2300B and RTH221B can be a challenge to open, to access the batteries. This QUICK video is shorter and quicker than my original video which also shows how to access the batteries: • How to Change Batterie...
    My thermostat is UPC Code 085267406123. These models of Honeywell thermostats use two AAA alkaline batteries.
    In this video, the thermostat has already been mounted to the wall. So, the process is somewhat different from opening this thermostat, if it has yet to be installed. To see how I opened the brand new thermostat, you could click the following link: • New 5.2 Honeywell RTH2...

    The best way I found to open the thermostat is using a small, thin screwdriver to pry it open at the bottom corners. There are small slots underneath to fit the screwdriver tip into. Do it carefully.

    • @isntajerk
      @isntajerk  7 лет назад +1

      While looking for the small slots, it occurred to me that there are a
      few different ways in which a dinner fork could be used to increase
      leverage, in case somebody's fingers can't separate the face plate from
      the backing plate. And one neat thing about the dinner fork is that it,
      like fingers, can remain entirely outside of the thermostat, while using
      it to pry the thermostat open. Thank you for helping me to provide
      alternatives which might be used to increase leverage.

    If you’re having trouble with getting it to open look at the bottom part at 2:19. It’s kind of semi circular. You can place one finger securely there and use your opposite hand to pull it open from the bottom. Right in the center.

    • @isntajerk
      @isntajerk  7 лет назад

      Great! I've not had issues with presets. But, from what you're describing, it sounds like temporarily pulling the batteries, then replacing them, gave you greater control than whatever presets had been controlling your HVAC system. Thank you for commenting about this benefit of knowing how to remove and replace the batteries. Happy trails!

    These directions were great but when I did them, there was a jelly-like substance around and in some of the receptors. Is that a concern?

    • @isntajerk
      @isntajerk  5 лет назад

      I'm thinking that the jelly-like stuff is clear. If so, then it's most-likely dielectric grease, which isn't a concern.

      What if the jelly like substance is yellow??

    • @isntajerk
      @isntajerk  5 лет назад

      @@raph2theuniverse Chances are the yellow jelly-like substance is a bulb grease with properties very similar to dielectric bulb grease. In the following link, you can find people discussing electrical components, and bulb grease. I don't advocate either of the bulb greases for a typical thermostat application; to me they're messier than they're worth, for a home thermostat. Electrical components in cars, however, because cars drive though many types of weather, get much benefit from such greases. www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/topics/1757184/Re:_pro_and_con_with_bulb_grea

    I changed the batteries but my display is still blank. I checked the circuit breaker but everything is normal. What should I do now?

    • @isntajerk
      @isntajerk  6 лет назад +1

      This model of thermostat uses the two alkaline AAA batteries to power its display; power from the circuit breaker shouldn't be needed to power the display. So, if the display is still blank, even with replacement batteries, chances are: The display isn't receiving sufficient power. It may be that the replacement batteries aren't powerful. It may be that there is debris or oxidation on the contacts, as was remedied in the second-half of this video: ruclips.net/video/L4VFu5FxLf4/видео.html . It may also be that the display unit isn't making proper contact with the thermostat assembly. If you decide to experiment with separating the faceplate from the thermostat assembly, I'd suggest ensuring that your workspace is clean, sufficiently soft, large, and comfortable for you to work at, so that when the pieces fall out of the assembly, they won't fall far, nor hit hard, as they drop onto your workspace. Alternatively, you might try calling Honeywell Customer Assistance. The number which my Quick Installation Guide recommends is 1-800-468-1502. Best wishes.

      @isntajerk  7 лет назад

      Mystic Hero Thank you for requesting a video about thermostat wiring. I'm more of a tinker or Do-It-Yourselfer, than a Heating & Cooling professional. And, thermostat wiring can vary considerably, depending on things like different systems. So, such a video would likely carry considerable confusion, along with helping some people. Your best bet is probably to contact Honeywell at 1-800-468-1502 for wiring assistance, the number recommended in the Quick Installation Guide which came with the thermostat in the video.

    After handyman installed this thermostat, he showed me how to replace the batteries without all that wiggling corners...just hold the bottom (because top is hinged) corners and pull. Then replace by hooking to the top hinge and press (once) back into place. Much simpler and quicker than this YT.
