    Definitely agree with this take. Claiming that the ancient Greeks had an entire "God of Stupidity" off of one reference from a work of _comedic fiction_ and a much later Roman reference that doesn't seem to refer to a god at all seems like a pretty big stretch to me.

    • @bobroberts2581
      @bobroberts2581 Год назад

      Meanwhile Christians use stupid references to a good two justify genocide. Hell, the religion “Jesus” belonged to uses a delusion to justify ritualistic genital mutilation of their kids, sk likely anyone that believes in gods is likely just a drooling idiot whose family tree is likely shaped like a wreath.

    • @matterhorn731
      @matterhorn731 Год назад +22

      @@bobroberts2581 That's... a little bit off topic. But I guess I'll bite. On the one hand, I'll second the condemnation of using religion to justify genocide (I'm an Ex-vangelical agnostic who deconstructed in a large part because I couldn't make ethical sense of the Canaanite genocide, the Flood, Hell, etc.). On the _other_ hand... the assertion that _any_ human who espouses _any_ form of god belief is a "drooling inbred idiot" is not one that lines up with my personal experience.
      Broadly, I think it's an error to treat large religious groups as if they're monolithic. Certainly some Christians have used their beliefs to justify genocide. Others have used them to justify pacifism. It's a religion that's existed for nearly two millennia and is currently followed to some extent by about a third of humanity. Of course it has variations (it would frankly take a miracle _not_ to).
      Also, just to note: the archaeological evidence for circumcision _faaar_ predates Judaism (like, potentially by _thousands_ of years). And there _are_ some actual scientific studies that suggest it can be effective at reducing the risk of STIs like HIV. Which is certainly not to say that it has no drawbacks or that better solutions couldn't be found or that its always done for logical reasons. But I _do_ think it's likely that it didn't start and stick around for as long as it has purely because of a delusion.
      Finally, just a tip, you _maaay_ want to make sure to spell check your comments in which you disparage other peoples' intelligence, as it may somewhat undercut your points otherwise.

As Socrates is disregarding the gods, Strepsiades says something along the lines of "Isn't the rain caused by Zeus peeing through a sieve?"; and I actually took that seriously as something the Ancient Greeks believed.

    I know zagreus is mostly a video game character, and not really something special since from what i found he is Dionisus (kind of), but i'm curious to see what you can find out, and it would get you some sick views since video game stuff, right? Like the kratos one.
