this is probably to warm upp transmition and differentials without putting stress on them as it would be on the track during acceleration and deceleration, as ther might be extrem small tolerances in gearbox and diffs so thay need to warm upp slow and gently.
No, it has just the same piston rods distance and crankshaft length, basically ITC regulation dictated that the engine must had the same inter-cylinder bore distance and crankshaft length as the normal production one so they took that size from the PRV used on a Lancia and built a completely new V6 90° from the ground up
Especially in the '95 and '96 DTM season, they had the telemetry support and engine tuning of an F1 of the same era, and were technically even more complicated to manage. Ferrari tried to get into Super GT during the 80s but partially failed, I believe also due to the lack of heavy interest in that field, men in Alfa Romeo were instead side by side with technicians and mechanics from Lancia (that won 6 WRC championships before) in order to succeed in ITC, DTM, ITCC, etc. They had a lot of potential and were really invested in Gt racing. You could feel their passion even when they were speaking.
