How long did you have to cook those cube steaks to make them fork tender? I'm guessing about an hour and a half @ 325?? Can you tell us what that "Pioneer Gravy" powder was? This video feels deeply familiar to me and rings of childhood and a simpler time. I’m from Texas but your Alabama accent sounds like my family…your cooking reminds me of summer when my grandmother’s garden would be coming in. She’d cook the most wonderful meals like this one. We were required as kids to shell the purple hills. Only difference…in the summer there would have been sliced cantelope and frosty iced tea. The tomatoes and cucumbers were usually in small cubes mixed together with vinegar, salt, and pepper. I remember my grandmother cooking this type of meal as a big lunch and leaving the serving dishes with the leftovers in the middle of the table covered with a cloth to be eaten for supper that night. Nobody died so I guess the immediate refrigeration we do now isn’t completely necessary. I just found your channel and love it. I subscribed and am looking forward to watching more of your videos. I learnt from my Irish Grandma, and she learn from her husbands grandmother, so I'm assuming this recipe goes back to the 18th century. But the Irish way to cook a "crumble" is without oats, and with COLD butter. The secret is to end up with little balls of butter, flour and brown sugar, and they get super crispy on top of the biscuit crumble between the fruit. That happens by rubbing and scrunching them together in your hands. The smaller crumble will top the fruit and the bigger lumps will go on the top. Personally I'm always disappointed by the addition of oats. We do Apple, apricot, rubarb, peach, or combinations of these. so good. 😊

Karen, you are so natural, sympathetic and good cooker. It is a pleasure to see your videos from Spain. Your liberal use of butter is striking for a mediterranean person.

Thank you and hello to Spain. An amazing friend of mine just came back from Spain a couple of weeks ago and brought me rice and saffron. I need good recipes now to use it. Any suggestions? ❤️

I learned something new from you, I didn't know that leftover mashed potatoes work better than freshly cooked potatoes for potato patties, thank you for letting all of us know that!
By the way where did you get that pigtail flipper from?

Karen, thank you for you for this video. I have a question about the seasoning of the purple hull peas. You used butter. I use bacon, ham, or etc. to season any of my vegetables. What does the butter do to the peas? Make it have a buttery rich taste. Thank you for your response when you can.

Ms. Karen, I ordered a set of the very nice cookware for my Nancy's birthday , September 17th. She will be 76.
We have known each other since 1954. We were "sweethearts" in fifth grade, for two whole weeks. 😊 after grammar school we went our separate ways and didn't see each other for 47 years. We "found" each other on Classmates on September 17, 2002 and 6 weeks later we married. That's my story and I'm sticking with it 😜
Again, thank you for your reply.
    Sincerely,
    Jerry
