  • Our Top 3 WB picks for Cabinet Refinishing.
    (Non Catalyzed)
    Thanks for watching!
    Here’s a short clip on our favorite sprayable WB Poly choices for Cabinet Refinishing.
    There are a lot of products out there and these are 3 that we’ve found to work well for us.
    These products are technically sprayable only (for us) , however I have spoken to many people that have brushed and rolled the cabinet bases and sprayed the doors and have had good results.
    We have found our best results spraying through HVLP with a 1.3mm fluid nozzle and needle, however airless spraying works great too. AAA and pressure pot setups will do fantastic with them of course but we are limited with our equipment.
    As always, I’d like to point out that I don’t know everything, and if I ever claim to, feel free to call me a liar.
    Here’s a link to the article this is based on I made a year or so ago.

    Hi Michael, really enjoy learning from you I have an Apollo Precision 5 LE can this machine spray the Sherwin Williams product? If so what set up would you recommend for this paint?

    Are these still your top picks? I have used Kem Aqua Plus in the past with great results on new work with the Surfacer as a primer . The PDS says previous finishes should be stripped completely. Is your experience different?

      Arey Painting good catch! The first few videos we did had really bad sound quality. Figured I’d get one to make it easier for anyone watching

    Michael , what to size do you use generally for your HVLP with General finishes & Sherwin Williams. Nobody ever mentions projectile sizes ! In case you ever read this lol.

    Hi Mike,
    it now 2020 and this video was a year ago. Do you have a new favorite or are those still your top 3? I know there has been a lot of discussion about Rener & Milesi in the forums.

    • @MichaelCraine
      @MichaelCraine  4 года назад +1

      Ted Rinshed still all available quickly and locally for me. Unfortunately there’s no renner or milesi or CIC distributors close by me. Do really want to give that CIC VS Poly a shot though I could really run with that one

    What primer are you going with? Also, if it a refinish job, is it necessary to strip or sand down all of the cabinets before priming if they’re in decent shape. Minor peeling issues on some of it. Or would a thorough cleaning and minor sanding suffice?

    • @MichaelCraine
      @MichaelCraine  4 года назад +1

      Boone Wyatt when you say minor peeling are you talking about factory coatings failing or someone hit it with a latex paint?
      I’ve had good luck with Zinsser Bin Shellac for the most part, Xim extreme bond. Quite a few friends like using coverstain or Vinyl sealer

      Michael Craine it’s a newer development and was finished on site twice because it already happened once before

      Boone Wyatt with what product and process?

    • @boonewyatt8236
      @boonewyatt8236 4 года назад

      Michael Craine now THAT I don’t know. That’s the tricky part

    • @MichaelCraine
      @MichaelCraine  4 года назад +1

      Boone Wyatt tough call man. Wonder why the heck it’s failing again. I’d clean, sand the heck out of it and shoot a coat of Bin shellac then topcoat at a minimum.

    As a first time diy sprayer I will be painting my kitchen cabinet with a Fuji hvlp hobby pro with a 1.8 tip. Is the general finish poly easy to with with? I did plan on using cabinet coat inslx till after watching your video 👍

    • @MichaelCraine
      @MichaelCraine  4 года назад +1

      boOyet A. The 1.8 tip would be more suited to a thicker coating. The GF is pretty thin and I use 1.0 or 1.3 mm tips at 5.5 psi on the turbine. Looks like the hobby pro is a 2 stage turbine so you would have a really hard time spraying cabinet coat without thinning it an extreme amount. I would suggest getting some product and testing it out as I mentioned in the video, nothing goes perfect the first time. A couple thin coats is much better than a thick one. It will not be solid after one coat

      As a DIYer myself, I was planning on using the Fuji hobby pro as well but with the Renner line. Now you have me wondering if that would be a good option. I don’t mind taking my time and doing more coats but I have a lot of other paint work to do so am wondering if it is worth it to spend a little more and get a better sprayer? Also, have you tried any of the Renner product yet?

    • @MichaelCraine
      @MichaelCraine  4 года назад

      kathleen cox I definitely recommend using the renner. They have some awesome products that I have tried. Unfortunately can’t remember their naming/numbering system for the life of me without going back to the shop and looking. You might check out @ericreason ‘s RUclips channel he does testing videos every week.
      As for shooting out of the Fuji hobby pro, will want to stick with the 1k thinner bodied products if you are using it. You should be alright but a thick product like a 2k poly would not atomize enough to lay down a nice finish

      Michael Craine thanks for responding! I am now thinking the 4 stage Fuji minimite or Apollo eco-4 might be worth the investment. Don’t know if you have any experience with the more budget 4 stage models. I did watch several @ericreason videos (found him via Louis Jasso, and you via Eric Reason.) This is where I have been getting the info on Renner, but to be honest their whole line confuses the hell out of me as a DIYer. I would really love to use the stuff but can’t really figure out in what combination. My guess was the 643 primer (tinted) and then the 851 self-sealer (tinted). Honestly though I can’t really make heads or tails of their line and cannot find any real information. Tried to contact their distributor in CA, but haven’t heard back. Am wondering if it would be better to go with a more accessible line.

      kathleen cox i think the rep for Mk sales (renner) is over in Italy right now. I’d touch base with Eric on the renner he is way more qualified to answer questions about it than I am as he’s done a lot of testing. As for the turbines, I’m partial to Apollo myself. The gun is the best I’ve ever sprayed with. 4 stage should do you just fine spraying those coatings. I used to use an old 3 stage accuspray turbine to shoot the GF/MLC/Kem Aqua

    How do you get the General Finishes tinted?

    • @MichaelCraine
      @MichaelCraine  5 лет назад

      Audrie Sharpe usually anyone that carries it can tint it. Otherwise you can order it from people that do. I don’t recommend getting it directly tinted from GF as it’s pretty seriously expensive from them.
