    Can we give more credit to Pete Willis? He was such a big part of shaping their sound, and he wrote a lot of their songs up to Pyromania. He deserves much more credit than he gets.

      I’ll do respect to Phil when I still think of Def Leppard I think of Pete and Steve is dual guitarist. They were brilliant together in his role on pyromania no matter what it is, is really underrated.

    Saw their very first US tour: 1980's Georgia Jam at Road Atlanta, GA. I remember that Def Leppard was so young that they did a newspaper article about having to get them chaperones before they could enter the US. They came on first, then The Scorpions, Pat Travers, Molly Hatchet and finally, Ted Nugent. July 4th and it was so hot that people were buying bags of ice for $5 (1980 dollars!) just to lie on them. My advanced ticket cost me $12. I was 19 years old. Great show by all.

    The song is about the band having epic and wild fantasies about touring America back then when they were starting out. Who at that time would have thought that would turn out to become so prophetic. They were meant for America and had become one of the biggest bands by 1983 over there despite not being originally from there.
    Fellow British Heavy Metal bands Judas Priest and Iron Maiden would also achieve the same kind of success over there in the early-mid 80's (note: I know that Def Leppard are not really a heavy metal band but they started out as a NWOBHM band)

    • @jadedheartsz
      @jadedheartsz 7 месяцев назад

      Yeah this song actually earned them a fair amount of backlash in the UK as they saw this song as a sellout, the band even found themselves getting garbage thrown at them when they performed at the Reading Festival in 1980, the song "Another Hit and Run" was written in response to the band's negative treatment by their own country and it wasn't until Animal became a top 10 UK hit that they finally saw success in their home country again.

    Why don’t you retitle your video correctly and not mislead people. This is not a music video anymore than it is a black and white film from 1927. This is a TV appearance on the show Top Pop. if you bothered to read the credits on the Historia home video, it clearly lists it as such. TV Appearance, music video two very different things.

    This was the song that angered many in the British press. They were called "fawning Oliver Twists". Ironically, it was the song that impressed Mutte Lange and others because it was evidence how ambitious and outward looking they were. They weren't just wanting to be the loudest band at the pub.
