Glam metal (also known as hair metal or pop metal) is a subgenre of heavy metal that features pop-influenced hooks and guitar riffs, upbeat rock anthems, and slow power ballads. It borrows heavily from the fashion and image of 1970s glam rock.
Early glam metal evolved directly from the glam rock movement of the 1970s, as visual elements taken from acts such as T. Rex, the New York Dolls, and David Bowie (and to a lesser extent, the punk and new wave movements taking place concurrently in New York City) were fused with the decidedly more heavy metal leaning and theatrical acts such as Alice Cooper and Kiss. The first examples of this fusion began appearing in the late 1970s and early 1980s in the United States, particularly on the Los Angeles Sunset Strip music scene. Early glam metal bands include Mötley Crüe, Hanoi Rocks, Night Ranger, Ratt, Quiet Riot, Twisted Sister, Bon Jovi, and Dokken. Glam metal achieved significant commercial success from approximately 1983 to 1991, bringing to prominence bands such as Poison, Skid Row, Cinderella and Warrant. From a strictly visual perspective, glam metal is defined by flashy and tight-fitting clothing, makeup, and an overall androgynous aesthetic in which the traditional "denim & leather" aspect of heavy metal culture is replaced by spandex, lace, and usually heavy use of bright colours.

80’s!!! The best decade to be a teenager. I grew up with all these bands, some better then others. Some more underrated then others. Love them all though. A lot if these bands are not glam. There’s also AOR, Melodic and Heavy metal in this list. But who cares, all awesome bands❤

I was gonna say wee is "Runaway" and Looks That Kills. Great to them in the top 10. "Photograph" is my favorite of all time. You are missing Kiss "Heaven's On Fire", and you need Y&T on the list. At least "Mean Streak". Helix "Heavy Metal Love" is great to represent 1983 as well. Some of my favs are way too low, but it doesn't matter because every song is a classic banger. I'm glad a lot of Swedish bands are bringing the sound back.

@@metaldog38shomeofmetalnewchann yes. Because everyone knows the most accessible and purchased product in the music industry are pre release promo recordings. They were all the rage in the 80's. They went platinum all the time.
Most average rock fans unanimously agree that Slaughter was famous in the 80's because of an unofficial record company pre-release. You're 100% right and I'm 100% wrong on this issue.

Not much of a fan of G&R though personally but all great songs otherwise.
Been seeing a lot of bands in concert over the last few years (Riley's LA Guns, Slaughter, Quiet Riot, Autograph, Stephen Percy and others...) Next concert for me will be Great White and Slaughter in a few months =)

Ozzy Osbourne wasn’t really a glam metal act, he was a heavy metal act. KISS I know people have mixed reactions, but i’d consider KISS a Shock Heavy Metal band, because at their shows you didn’t know what was gonna happen and they played heavy metal/metal. Neither was Quiet Riot a glam band .But I think every 80s band had the glam look era.

Yo aún no 😟 busco una donde donde dicen tres veces All For You en el coro (creo que dice así) pero no la consigo, tocan auna guitarra eléctrica rítmica y una batería con un sonido como si fueran tambores de marcha, y la canta un hombre con voz grave y suave pero por más que la busco no la encuentro, ¿Alguien podría ayudarme? (no sé si sea una canción tipo balada, de jazz, de rock clásico tipo Pink Floyd, Cigarette After Sex, Deep Purple, Pearl Jam, Diré Straits, Hoy Division, Eric Clapton, The Doors, Muse o ese tipo de canciones así) parece como rock clásico o baladas rock o balada o jazz.

Survivor was AOR not Glam nor even Hair Metal. The other two made it big in the 90's. That why you don't don't see "Cherry Pie nor Uncle Tom's Cabin" on the list.
