Although they've maintained success over the years, this era was when they were at their best.
@@SWIFTY5150 I AGREE WITH YOU ON THAT.
Absolutely 🤟
It was all downhill from here. I actually like the debut better, so, to me, the decline started the year before.
Hysteria is a capital album, but it has all been a slide since said album.
EXACTLY
HELL YEAH, Every morning before I go to work. I'm 61 yrs old. ROCK ON!!!
HELL FUCKN YES!!
61 is gold for this tune.
BEST BAND EVER AND I AM OLDER THAN YOU ❤🎉.
BOY FRIEND IS PART DEAF AND I GAVE HIM THE WORDS TO THE SONG AND HE WAKES ME UP.😂❤
Doing the same.
High n Dry is their best album hands down. Pure rock and roll...
Agreed, their best album. :On through the night album: was too raw, but a great album. The rest was "bubble gum" rock , but i did enjoy Pyromania.
Bought High n Dry in '81 when it came out. Already familiar with Def Leppard by then because a friend had All Through The Night and brought it to school one day, towards the end of my senior year.
Got rid of all my LP's long ago, so it's great to be able to come here and hear all these songs again. 🤘👍
Hell yeah!!
Hell yea thank you, I got ppl that have their doubts but I will never have a doubt that high n Dry is their most awesome, best rock ever. Reminds me of better times to.🇺🇸🇬🇧🇺🇸🇬🇧🇺🇸🇬🇧🇺🇸🇬🇧partied a lot of times to this.
Could not agree more. Later they just got to poppy
Pete Willis totally shreds on this album! The band was never the same after his departure!
Agreed
Saw them with and without Willis, high an dry with Willis!!
Not a single bad song on the High n Dry album. The whole entire album rocks.
Absofuckinlutly.

It's my favorite album by them
One of the first songs I heard by Def Leppard. Had me hooked at 14. I'm 55 now and I'm still listening!! 🤘
Same remember recording it on cassette lol...1968 Baby...
@@michaellaskowski7933 1969 I'm 53 now
@pinkroses67 - exactly the same story! (born in 1967) This songs still rocks!!!
52 and was hooked when MTV played this and a couple others on regular rotation in 82/83.
Ran right out and brought the cassette✌️😎👉💯
Haha. Same for me. First song from Def Leppard and I'm 55 too.
Man the 80s just fricken rocked. Kids have no clue what a great time we had .
As I get older 56. I rock out every day. It gives me an absolute rush.
Rock on .!!!!!!!
Agreed! And you can't explain it to them either, you just had to be there. Live music seven nights a week... No smartphone or social media, no staying home to watch other people have a good time on t.v., people lived their own lives. The 80s made the 60s look like the 50s.
55 here and I 100% agree!!!!!! The 80's were incredible.... I want to go back..
same age and gen - so true
Well, don't know if you all will see this; but, I have all of you beat, lol!!! Not your normal 65 year old.....still rockin'!!! Catch up with me if you can, lol!!! Have a great one.....
Yea i totally agree !! The 80s were the best times for music! I seen def leppard in concert in 1983 as a young teen and wow they were a great band then and still are .The 80s were a time where there was no political correctness, sjw 💩,no smart phones,no blm, antifa 💩 and everything wasnt racist. Kids today have no clue what they missed out on
Dear RUclips: When I type "Let It Go", I don't want Frozen. Thank you
Ain't that a shame, a song in the kiddie music world having the same title as one from Def Leppard's greatest era and what might be the baddest jam they ever wrote.
Post Script;
The song from the band Sum 41, In Too Deep, which is actually a good song which is surprising given that it's from an era long past the greatest era of music, in their official video for it right at about 1:34 if you freeze it it's the cover of this album, there's absolutely no way it's a coincidence, it has to be a nod to this album.
Also, the album cover for this album, High n Dry, was done by an agency called Hipgnosis that did nothing but album covers starting in 1968, they did pretty much every one of Pink Floyd's album covers except for The Wall which of course was done by the art illustrator who conceptualized everything for the intended movie, they stopped doing album covers and disbanded not too long after this because of them feeling like they'd artistically run their course combined with the seismic shift in music at this point going from Rock to New Wave and it being something they just didn't feel like they connected with, if you look at the run of album covers they did High n Dry, which I think was their 2nd to last, was the last really great one they'd done.
There's a fantastic documentary about Hipgnosis on Netflix called Squaring The Circle that I highly recommend, for years I've been telling younger people how they missed out on the golden age of album cover art, in 1983 when Compact Disc's started to become the dominant form of music packaging album covers went from giant surfaces that were perfect for art to these little surfaces that bands and the record companies weren't going to pay $100,000 for art work on, just look at the difference between High n Dry and Def Leppard's next album Pyromania, it looks like a cartoon compared to the cover of High n Dry, and during that golden age of album covers it was Hipgnosis that made what some consider to be the greatest album covers of all time with everyone else trying to keep up.
😂👍
😂😂😂 fuck that made me laugh the systems so fucked bro 😂
Me too.
😂
Willis and Clark were an awesome combo.
The best
I miss them both
Willis and Clark, an EXTREMELY under rated guitar duo... they meshed really really well

Still rockin hard & giving it hell! Long live southern rock!🎉😮😅😊❤❤❤😂😅!
Not underrated by their fans! 👍✌
Amen - cheers!!!
*High n' Dry* was the best Def Leppard album - all original members
Tony Kenning was their 1st drum player, then Rick Allen. So your 90% right. Lol
Pete Willis > Phil Collen
Gottisanidiot... he always was. Fired because he drank too much? Lol, what a load BS. More like he was fired because he didn’t want to sell out like the rest of them did.
@@panzerlieb HE WAS FIRED BECAUSE HE WAS A VERY MEAN drunk. They all Drank A LOT but the difference is they werent wanting to fight everyone. If PETE would've been a cool guy when hammered he'd still be there. Even Pete admits he was mean.

So many Def Leppard songs from the Pete Willis-era had killer rhythm guitar riffs. After Pyromania, that pretty much ended.
No, after hysteria, if it wasn't for his attitude, pete would've been able to stay

@ftlshome1 THEY WERE A FANTASTIC TEAM AND YOU SHOULD LEARN MORE ABOUT CLARK . NOW THAT CLARK HAS DIED YOU SHOULD KNOW HE CAME FROM A HARD FATHER WHO GAVE HIM THE ELECTRIC GUITAR HE WANTED ON CONDITION THAT HE TOOK LESSONS AND PRACTICED ALL THE TIME. I don't care what anyone thinks...I'm a Def Leppard fan from the start till they end...still an incredible band IMO.
Chris Osterhouse of course my lord!
Chris Osterhouse been a fan for 30 years still love em 🤘
Eddie The Head It's the truth. It's an overproduced piece of trash with a extremely dated synth drum sound and cheesy overlayered vocals. This band was one foot in the grave when they fired Pete Willis and Rick Allen's accident was the final nail in the coffin. You can't play electric drums with one arm in a rock band. That may be insensitive to say, but it's the truth.
@@martijnstuart95
I agree. And this record, from 1981, sounds way better than the synthetic sound of Hysteria.
Martijn Stuart then how were they still popular, and STILL perform to this DAY? Answer that. Rick was given a special drum set where his left foot would work like a left arm so when he pushed a pedal with his foot, it would do something the arm would've done
Im 56. I used to jam this in my 1982 Corvette that i bought used and this cassette was worn out. I must have bought 3 of them. Glass mirrored T TOPS on my red 1982 Corvette and the.memories i had...thank you leppard for making me remember such great times..LET IT ROCK, LET IT ROLL..LET IT GOOOO!!!

This is when Def Leopard was playing real rock and roll music.
I wondered... If Rick still had both his arms, Steve was still here and Pete was still in the band, how would Leppard be today?

@@f.frederickskitty2910 '79 - '83 in my case, but yeah
Steve Clark was the heart and soul of this band. Great writer and player. Miss that guy.
Agreed. The Adrenalize CD after he died was just too tame and toned down. Took the fun out of it. Retro Active was good, but nothing like this
This miss Mutt as well. 2 main songwriters.
They had 3 great albums. High n Dry, Pyromania and Hysteria. It's been 35 years and counting since they've approached any of the those 3. Steve Clark (RIP) and Mutt Lange out of the picture would be the reason for the drought. Tool would eat Leppard for lunch. And not have to really kick it into a high gear to do it.
Do not discount the contributions of Pete Willis, on guitar and songwriting, either!
RIP he was great 😢
Pete, that guitar was bigger than you are, but you played it bigger than it was!

long live Def Leppard!!!!
I completely agree!
alesha S Nirvana happened, that's what happened. The early 90s was the start of the modern rock era and it's been essentially like that ever since.
***** Trust me, I gave it a try. I listened to all of Nirvana's albums from start to finish back in 1993 when I was in high school. It sucked balls back then and it still sucks balls now. Def Leppard is still going strong today selling out arenas, but where is 90s grunge today? Dead in an urn and buried in the ground where it belongs. 70s & 80s rock n roll lasted much longer because it had the talent, the skill, the melody, and the charisma, which the 90s all lacked.
Steve Perry Go watch Billboard's video titled "Def Leppard's Joe Elliott slams 90s music". Joe Elliott hits the nail on the head in that video when he talks about 90's bands compared to 70's and 80's bands.
***** Yeah it does matter, it matters a lot.
This album was raw and real, with no over produced pop songs...slingshot to the top!

@@daniellinder8917
That is an interesting opinion.
While earlier leppard had a more metallic edge The melodic structure was always there and a natural evolution. The idea that Leppard would have somehow kept the metal sound Given speculation that Pete had somehow remained is just Wishful thinking and doesn't stand up to scrutiny given the fact that one of the few bands that actually pursued a metal direction at the time
Thin Lizzy with "thunder and lightning " are on record as telling Lepparrd that they couldn't compete with Pyromania and Lynott admitted it was a factor in folding the band.
A little unfairly I thought as hard drug use was obviously a factor as well but the point remains pertinent.

It's such high rock energy from song one to the end. It's really an awesome rock album.
100 percent
@Eddie The Head But it's the only opinion that matters
On a high end car stereo cassette deck like a kenwood or nakamichi with a carver or any decent amp from that era. You can always find them on ebay.
I was goin into gr 9, hanging with some older dudes listening to this one summer, then hysteria dropped. Let's just say, I was ahead of the curve!
You gotta -Let it Rock! Let it Roll! Let it Go! They were only kids when this came out. Always a cranking go to song in the rock arsenal of Def!!
It's hard to fathom they were just kids here, 17-21 I believe. As far as I'm concerned, this album has the best energy; you can feel the raw vital hunger, and it's focused to a fine point. The guitars have this eerie dynamic and Joe uses his voice in a way that he never really does again. It continually makes me excited to be alive...sometimes I jump up and down and air-box to it, I can't help it. It just rocks.
To your point -- back when the boys came to Seattle behind this LP the radio promo was basically "..and they're all under 21." I enjoy hearing Joe Elliott on satellite radio, I respect their choices on their album of covers (especially Roxy's "Street Life") but no question their first two albums are all one really needs.
Can't help but wonder if Pete hadn't left, if Steve was still with us, and Rick wouldn't have had that wreck how damn good this band would sound. These guys had one helluva sound back then.
I love the duo that was Clark And Collen! But jesus Pete Willis was an amazing player!
