Prachtig .

I used to go out with the Wessex Morris Side occasionally when I was a younger man. Learned a few of the dances and went out with them on a couple of MayDays when they would meet at dawn on the Cerne Giant chalk carving and tour the local area. It's awesome to see English traditions of two types being upheld at Horseguards today.

John, I am in Georgia in USA and have been watching your channel for a while now. I really enjoy your commentary and getting to see the handsome guards and the beautiful horses along with some of the London sights. Do you think that something will ever be done to get more control of the crowds at Horse Guards? Since the warm weather has arrived and the tourist numbers have increased, it just seems to be getting more chaotic there with an increasing need for MOD police intervention. Sad and disturbing. Thanks again for doing these videos.😊

I share your concerns. The crowds seem potentially dangerous and I think there should be more control for everyone's safety. Having said this, I drove past here last week at around 11am and expected to see a large crowd only to be surprised to see very few people there.

I’m a former infantryman (1978-1990). Couldn’t have hacked this. Worries about horse welfare. I trust the welfare from the guards perspective. And the nonsense/abuse the personnel receive from idiots need carting off for the ‘full debrief’. I would like to see a modern British Army no longer using animals. And I’d like to see swift intervention from Mod Plod.

With the greatest respect for your service, I think your opinion is very much that of an infantryman's. Whether a historic mounted cavalryman or the modern armoured cavalryman, the horse represents the very essence of mobile warfare and breakthrough. They are a source of inspiration and strength. They are a link to thousands of years of warfare on horseback, as well as a vital part of the fighting traditions of the historic British Army that contribute to the esprit de corps and morale of the Guards, armoured regiments, and the Royal Horse Artillery. As for the horses, they experience what the British Army is about at its best. As many army personnel, In exchange for being taken out of their comfort zone and rising to the challenge of service, they find out they are capable of more than they ever knew. As a cavalry reenactor, my horse and I have obtained more out of even the pale imitation of military service that we follow than we ever could have if I just studied the history of cavalry behind a desk and he just lived out his days as a polo pony.

Mark the ground in front of the horses to keep people at a certain distance, prevent touching. I know some horses like to be stroked especially by the groomers, owners. That's affection, not pawing as done by the tourists.who knew there is so much ignorance out there.

I loved the way Vitoria calmed whilst you were standing next to him early on in his shift. He clearly felt your protective vibe John! Now Oscar/Harvester (?) was not impressed at having to stand for an hour to be mauled by Tourons yet again, he looked bored to tears.....bless him . As for the red faced loon ranting on about the ladies wanting their photos taken, he clearly didn't know the 'rules' because they were on Council land which is available to tourists. It's not like they tried to touch the horse, unseat the guard, stand IN the box or to touch the reins...... there always has to be one somewhere! But...then there's the tourist in the green pants who will have a great bellow of "make way" on her video from Horse Guards as a memento 😂😂. Another entertaining walk.....thank you John.

It looked like one of those Morris Dancers was dressed as Will Kempe - Shakespeare’s one time fool who danced all the way from London to Norwich in 1599 - complete with bells and waving hankies to keep the evil spirits away - after they had a falling out to prove he could still attract an audience.
Just how many times does a horse have to say “keep your bloody hands to yourself” before people get the message. Do they really need to wait till those teeth get involved. A couple of rein grabs too which looked deliberate to me.
The police were right to prevent an arrest being filmed. Everyone is entitled to a defence but no one wants a fancy pants lawyer getting that useless waste of oxygen back on the streets on a technicality any time soon.
It might be rough justice, a bit barbaric and a tad messy but with so many swords around there’d be a quick fix which would ensure he’d never get to stick his hand into anyone else’s pocket ever again. I know we’re supposed to be more civilised these but the “old ways” were often more effective.

Interesting that the two women ignored the policeman and tried it again. 🙄 Having said that, the man who swore at them probably wouldn’t have expressed himself so angrily, if he’d been speaking to men, who might have been as quickly angry and given him a bunch of fives. If some people had taken sides, possibly a crowd punchup might have ensued. I think that John shutting him down quickly could have stopped a fracas. No one knew if the two women were with male companions who might have responded. Keeping the peace seems a better alternative to one bloke’s annoyance kicking off a nasty scene, with a huge horse and guardsman so close. Expressing annoyance has to be sensible, not too impulsive. Am I exaggerating the possibility of a nasty scene ? No. It does, happen in many, contexts.

According to Wikipedia, Datchet is a village in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, Berkshire (was in Buckinghamshire until 1972). Personally, I'm a fan of the Border Morris dancers - more "rugged and earthy" style..... struggling to describe it. So many forms of Morris dancing. Here in York, rural Western Australia, we had a couple of groups of Morris dancers performing outside our small town hall in a weekend festival just a fortnight ago. British traditions still being carried on in Australia.

Yeah I’m pretty certain that’s not Harvester. A: pretty sure he retired, and B:I’ve never seen that blaze before but I HAVE seen Harvester before, so as far as I’m concerned, Oscar it is 😂
Nice to see the Morris dancers……it’s really quite popular now and there are lots of different styles and groups these days as you can see from the two groups that came thru, one in traditional white, the others in black and ribbons…..ooooh and an ‘obby ‘oss(who MAY have been a dragon?)….they’re so cool!!! Oh well I guess every so often you have to get one horse that’ll actually drink instead of just splashing and blowing bubbles 🤣 It was never one of ours tho🙄….you’d lug the bucket (and they’re HEAVY)out and they’d do nothing but play with it, little buggers 😉🤣
Good grief love, I think you missed your stop on the tube….this isn’t Soho, and the stripper auditions aren’t being held here!!!
🤣just noticed the unnamed horse has a wee map of Australia on the end of his nose!!! (Which is probably better than a cosmetically “enhanced” tourist arse being shoved in his nose🙄🤭)
I guess with the pickpocket, they know the guy is being held there, theres no rush and lots of other things to worry about 🤷
