Missed another SNAFU this morning, John. Just as Old Guard were going out to parade, New Guard arrived with orders to go straight in to stables. Both troops then proceeded to traipse past one another in the tunnel, and ended up on opposite ends of Horse Guards. Hopefully we'll see things done properly once again by next week. Take care till then.
Hi John. The lady with the Gatesman was Japanese & the bowing was a respectful apology to the guard. She was showing humility and loss of face. She was clearly embarrassed. The Guard controlling the uneasy horse with his left hand for nearly an hour was amazing. Credit where credit is due to him. Tourists are amazingly dumb!
I agree with you 100% every word you said . I don't know why people who visit DO NOT read the Signs and DO not back up when they see the horse is not having a good day .
You got that right! He rides with one hand only, the reins are almost always relatively loose if not totally slack so there’s no pressure on the horses mouth ,no pain. The rider uses his body and legs more than his hands to control the animal. I used to breed these warmbloods, and they are incredibly big and powerful, riding on pavement without rubber shoes is extremely slippery/dangerous. Kudos to the riders
I can believe that the horse guard had an extremely sore shoulder at the end of the day. Bravo to him for controlling the horse so well. Another fantastic video, thank you ♥️🇨🇦
The trooper on the horse with the issue in the yard looking around for assistance, his 'mate' leaves his post to assist him, 'Band of Brothers' springs to mind, such a friendship bond.

Shouldn't the police be more proactive in insisting the public stay back when a horse is obviously unsettled! ! There is no guarantee it wont take flight into the crowd, you cant trust the public to be sensible, they need to be told!!! Thanks for your superb coverage John you manage to be in the right place at the right time ! Btw well done for correcting the little muppet who hit the young girl in your other video, appalling behaviour! I hope he got a stern telling off from the Police and his Teacher!! Im astonished no one attended the guard when he pressed the button for the second time! What an incredible job the horseman did, they must both be exhausted ! Thank you John for your commentary and your footage, great job 👍✅
The MOD police were out there telling people to MOVE , if people don't listen or understand how dangerous a very restless horse can be it's not their fault . Though if seeing a very large horse having a meltdown doesn't register with their brains I don't know what will ! 🤔🤔🤔
Why would U be astonished????? Hmmmm what ur asking is for the police to ACTUALLY move. I'M ASTONISHED U SAID THAT!!!!!! THE police Move , actually MOVE. UR SO FUNNY 😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
Animals are just like people, they have bad days too. I used to have a service dog who's sadly passed, but even with proper training, some days he'd wake up and not want to do his job just like how I didn't want to do mine. It takes so much patience and skill to manage a working animal's meltdowns with a calm hand and not let it get out of hand. I hope this guard knows how much he's appreciated despite the gawking, brainless tourists that just focused on being upset they didn't get a photo. If I ever get the chance to visit England, I want to thank these men for their endless patience for what tourist put them through, not get a photo of them and their horses as if they're just statues. Much like service dogs, these horses and their riders are on duty, so it's just mind-boggling how people treat them without proper respect. I do hope that they get compliments or thanks from bystanders or tourists from time to time.
It is so good that the trooper are so well trained to deal with a difficult horse for an hour that simply does not want to be in the box to work, it is a credit to the trooper in the skill's that they have been trained to do, & your right if a horse does not want to do what it is ask, you can not make it ❤
I presume the reason they don't always replace irritable horses is precisely to prevent the horses getting too smart about knowing they can get off the duty if they act up enough! Incredible horsemanship as no matter how competent you are, you're a long way off the ground if the horse decides to fully rear - & I did see one on someone else's video that did exactly that 2 secs after the rider had dismounted - fell over completely backwards!! Thankfully uninjured & up in secs too but if the Guard had still been on it could have been horrendous.
Its not so much that, more that a lot of the horses are just bad tempered its really not a strange occurrence when you work with the same horses everyday.
Wow that was really scary for a moment especially when the horse was I. The yard backing up he almost stepped into the window well. What a great show of horsemenship for the Guard, such control and focus.
Because if the horse wins this 'argument', he will remember this, and do exactly the same thing the next time and forever there after, horses are not stupid, this will eventually render him useless to H Cav as part of their contingent. i qualify what i say, as i had my first pony at the age of 8 years old and rode until i was 50 years old.
@@vinpepp Well said vinpepp, all the way through I thought the horse needs to know who`s boss. I wonder if perhaps it was the horse's first time at this post, as there is a first time for everything and the horseman was superb and showed great strength. I had an 18/1/2 hand Irish hunter in my day and boy was it ever a battle of wills at times. Now at the age of 70 and disabled I just have my memories and Johnathon's great videos. Best wishes to you.
@@vinpepp no - horses like Q10 also have the occasional 'meltdown', and such a severe one as this could have caused serious injuries to the public - agree with another comment that Blues and Royals would have done the right thing and brought the horse back
It's change over , very busy day , 11/12 horses to settle in the stables , Troopers not on ceremonial duties to change out of their uniforms , kit to unpack . The call button connects to the Guards room , they have now installed cameras extra cctv in the boxes .
That horse is a trooper not a normal horse he is a war horse so he is on duty and doing what he hasbeens trained to do they are only out a hour at a time learn before commenting
My late father's cousins son was in the Welsh Guards & he went up to the top ranks. But I do not think that he done horse Guards All I know is that he was so devoted to his job that he did not get married. That is how much he loved his job & that is another reason why I admire our soldiers, Sailors & Air Crew because they go through so much in their duties. Well done to each and everyone of them.
John, I saw you on another videographers video from 8 months ago!! Finally I can put a face to your voice. You were kidding about being 77 yo., more like 50. Very handsome . Now let’s get to another great day. 😊😊😊😊😊😊

Dear John. Another 'Nah weather's no good for filming day'.I just love the way you match up the Regiments with whom are currently on duty at the time. It's more often sheer ignorance. They've probably had no experience with horses. The responsibility for this lies on the police and guards and the policies. They DO know the possible dangers of a frustrated horse. They shouldn't allow the tourists to get so close to the horses and guards.
This poor horse just wasn’t in the mood that morning and really couldn’t settle but the guard remained calm at all times showing his true professionalism. I didn’t realise they had a ‘panic’ button until we saw it being used. The guard handling this horse was absolutely amazing and I bet that was as stressful for him as it was for the horse. Great respect for these men and women.

Or do they stand and watch the tourists get trampled unless the police catch it? I’ve seen John warn someone or talk out loud in hearing range, lol. But I mean, if I were there seeing that, I’d want to jump in and say “What are you doing, get out of the way!” Aaaack.

The horse on the opposite end is doing his best.He can he's Lowwering his head dealing with it. And has a sleepy look to him. He's biting at people that want to touch him. Proud of both of them. Considering it to be a busy day with the changeover, and the chain connecting to the secondary rein left undone, that horse may have been triggered coming out of the stables. That guard did an amazing job keeping him out, so that the horse knew he wouldn't get away with not settling down. I assume the lady from a different culture, may have wanted to save face, apologizing to the guard. Some people freeze in spot, if they aren't familiar with what is going on, or the danger. There is something that is said up in the North of England about the attitude of these tourists. which is, You cannot mend "Thick".why do they risk putting their children in danger?

Dzień dobry, John! Prowadzisz niezwykle ciekawy kanał. Zabierasz wirtualnych turystów na krótkie spacery ulicami Londynu. Z pasją opowiadasz o ceremoniałach Konnej Gwardii Królewskiej. Doceniam ciężką służbę strażników i wspaniałych koni. Dzięki Tobie odwiedzę to miejsce podczas kolejnej wizyty w Londynie. Stałeś się ambasadorem Household Cavalry. Gratuluję❤
Horses obey or they don't. As a human of like 70 kilo's you're not gonna stop a 700 kilo horse. It is all about making the horse believe you're the master. You're fucked when they don't believe that...
Some horses hate being without other horses, for the feeling of safety in numbers. Training in working independently along with a bond to the rider/owner makes for a much safer mount. Also some horses e.g. draught breeds mostly have quieter minds.
John has explained many times that the Guards are in charge behind the public highway and police *on the thorough fare for public safety. Having said that everyone *does work together and helps one another out,
Why aren’t the MOD police stopping people from walking round that corner & into the path of the obviously stressed horse? They could prevent the horse from being crowded & tourists from standing in the way, trying to get in the box with the horse, plus no end of daft behaviour, it stops anyone from getting squashed. Tourists standing in gateway means the horse has nowhere to go, they cut off the “escape route” Who is doing their health & safety? That horse is a risk to him/herself & everyone else there. Is there something in that box?
The lady just wasn't sure what to do I don't think it was a sense of entitlement. You're right about those kids being in danger . I watch you everyday❤o
Respect always to horses and guards... gotta wonder if something strange in that box coz lotsa times it's there that horses super restless... empathy for human and animal... or uea, it's just no no no, not today, not into crowds... thanks for videos and love and respect always to all cavalry
Hello John! I just LOVE your style, my friend. Your natural curiosity feeds my own! When I think of things I wish you’d done, I never have to ask because you ALWAYS ask on your own!! If I were ever to make it to London, I would hire you for a couple outings, to YOUR favorite places as I’m sure they’ll be mine too! Well done, sir - yet again! Many compliments to the guard on that slightly-cracked up horse. He is most certainly a step above for simply keeping the horses’ all four feet on the ground! He is a born horseman that one and I admire his skills very much. ❤️🐈
I just want to tell you I think you are amazing. Your commentary makes my day. I love your accent and the words you say. I have seen a few other videos not yours and you always make me smile. Thank you. God bless you. ❤
You can be a tourist in your own country if you have a holiday your a tourist on holiday you rent a room you pack your clothes you travel to another place and visit all the tourist attractions and you can even fly to another place while still being in the country
You can't expect people to realize the danger when they don't know horses! The have faith the guards know how to handle them from harming the crowd! Matbe unfounded, but they don't know better.
No trooper came out even tho button was pressed a few times by himself and police and now the horse has had enough and so as his belly too 🧐 so another fellow guard came along to help his fellow guard out bless him 😊
I've been around livestock all my life, so I have a lot of common sense about how to deal with horses. However, I realize that not everyone has the same experience and may not be aware of the danger that a horse can pose. Horses are very powerful animals, and they can easily injure or kill a human if they are mishandled. It is important to be aware of the potential dangers of interacting with horses and to take precautions to avoid accidents.
October 2023, nice to see some old friends of Troopers horse and riders and the no nonsense C of H. Enjoy your day off its been a busy few days lots of action in the yard John see you tomorrow. 😊
I don't know anything about horses but is it possible somebody during the night took a leak by the enclosure? It appears to me nobody wants to be in that particular enclosure today. Something seems to be bothering them.
48:14 Sorry for laughing at this, but it was kinda funny to have the tension building up of the horse being set free, while you are right in front of it. Getting the news from the horse's mouth, sort of speak. And then it turned around and started backing into you, i just couldn't help but burst out laughing, assuming everything ended well of course. That was a surprisingly captivating hour, and loved the commentry on the tourists as well, the amount of times i shake my head at those people.
I remember seeing this as a small child in the late 50s/early 60s while visiting my English grandmother in London, when tourists were an unknown breed.
Can you answer this. When the horses is taken away from the arch after they have been standing for an hour. Do they come back again or are they moved to the stable's.
The duty lasts 1 hour then return to the stables for 1 hour then come out again though this isn't set in stone , in this case it's doubtful that horse would be out again that day . First duty starts at 10 am last ends at 4 pm , for the mounted Troopers , gatesman and chitsman in summer stay in the arches until 6 pm .
Not a pleasant day in London today, but tomorrow will be sunny! Back then folks. ❤️

Well! I've seen so many things on this one episode - stunning! Thank you for filming this extraordinary situation!
Some horses hate being without other horses, for the feeling of safety in numbers. Training in working independently along with a bond to the rider/owner makes for a much safer mount. Also some horses e.g. draught breeds mostly have quieter minds.
Great John for you caught it all what filming 😊
I don’t entirely blame the tourists. Some are dumb or curious but the police should be more aware and control the people.
John has explained many times that the Guards are in charge behind the public highway and police *on the thorough fare for public safety. Having said that everyone *does work together and helps one another out,
The police are Ministry of Defence police there for security reasons as Horse Guards is a working military barracks .
Why aren’t the MOD police stopping people from walking round that corner & into the path of the obviously stressed horse? They could prevent the horse from being crowded & tourists from standing in the way, trying to get in the box with the horse, plus no end of daft behaviour, it stops anyone from getting squashed.
Tourists standing in gateway means the horse has nowhere to go, they cut off the “escape route”
Who is doing their health & safety? That horse is a risk to him/herself & everyone else there. Is there something in that box?
The lady just wasn't sure what to do I don't think it was a sense of entitlement. You're right about those kids being in danger . I watch you everyday❤o
Respect always to horses and guards... gotta wonder if something strange in that box coz lotsa times it's there that horses super restless... empathy for human and animal... or uea, it's just no no no, not today, not into crowds... thanks for videos and love and respect always to all cavalry
She was showing respect after her disrespect.
Bowing is a Japanese signofrespect
What amazing horsemanship absolutely brilliant one ✋️ ✋️ ✋️
You can be a tourist in your own country if you have a holiday your a tourist on holiday you rent a room you pack your clothes you travel to another place and visit all the tourist attractions and you can even fly to another place while still being in the country
If that guard shouted at me I’d have run all the way home ..😁. It’s not the language it’s the tone of voice which tells you !!!!
Thanks John, great horseman ship there. Beautiful sunshine for a while there.
I think there should be more rules in place regarding the public, I feel for for the horses and guards at times.
Commentator thank you for your interesting commentary on everything going on. I truly appreciate it.
Amazing horsemanship. The guard remained calm and in control while the horse made its displeasure quite clear.
You can't expect people to realize the danger when they don't know horses! The have faith the guards know how to handle them from harming the crowd! Matbe unfounded, but they don't know better.
Beautiful horses, fantastic horsemanship and incredible silly people🤪
No trooper came out even tho button was pressed a few times by himself and police and now the horse has had enough and so as his belly too 🧐 so another fellow guard came along to help his fellow guard out bless him 😊
I've been around livestock all my life, so I have a lot of common sense about how to deal with horses. However, I realize that not everyone has the same experience and may not be aware of the danger that a horse can pose. Horses are very powerful animals, and they can easily injure or kill a human if they are mishandled. It is important to be aware of the potential dangers of interacting with horses and to take precautions to avoid accidents.
Often seems a long wait before someone answers the call button.
Looks like the ghosty was back in that box tickling the horse again John! 👻 I wonder what it is in that box which upsets them so
October 2023, nice to see some old friends of Troopers horse and riders and the no nonsense C of H.
Enjoy your day off its been a busy few days lots of action in the yard
John see you tomorrow.
Thankyou so much for the commentary too! It is very interesting to know! ❤🎉
Horse was clearly uncomfortable then he just got angry. Why they didn’t take him off
Probably a battle of the wills.

What's lacking here is Common Sense among the tourists. Not to mention brain matter!
Cripes again! By the time the Guard and horse get help the shift will be over!
Always found it ironic that the kings guard need cops to protect them..
Well done that guard. Fantastic horsemanship. The box looks as if it’s needing a clean. Standing in poop can’t be good.
