  • This young woman has turned her love of wood-working into the ultimate accomplishment, building her very own home! After falling in love with the idea of a tiny house on wheels, and staying in several during her travels, upon returning to England, Florence was inspired into action and started crafting her very own tiny house.
Her tiny home is absolutely stunning. As you would expect from a passionate woodworker, the house is filled with beautiful timbers. Many of the items inside the home have been reclaimed and recycled helping her to keep the tiny homes budget affordable. The house is also completely off the grid, generating energy from a solar system and using a spring fed water supply.
For its compact footprint, this house has it all and the clever use of space and functional design makes this home not only a visual beauty, but also a joy for Flo to live in. I hope you enjoy the video tour of this very special tiny home.

The issue is land ownership. Land is incredibly expensive in the UK (tiny island, large population, unjust class system). If you’ve got land to put it on then perfect. Most of the rich build these on their premises for “glampung” then charge the equivalent of $150-$250 per night to stay in one. If you want to live off-grid in a small home with little footprint, you either have to strike up a secret deal with a landowner, or play the system and save a substantial amount to buy land and somehow gain permission to reside on it through stringent planning permission laws.

I am sad/impassioned that there's always a comment saying "oh, but that person had help, that person is on their family land," like that takes away from the accomplishment or the drive to commit to tiny living in the first place. Yes, we all live in communities: families, chosen families, communities by location or vocation or affiliation. No, she didn't build this BY HERSELF: why would she when she has people who want to help her? Why take out our own frustration that we don't have family land, or a builder or carpenter in our network, or the hard-won skills these people do? Accentuate the positive, people!
I love that you tell the stories of folks who live tiny for so many different reasons: ecological footprint, want to own their own space, want the challenge of building, engaging their craft(s), or making a "starter home" and have plans for bigger or better or different. Some homes have no laundry, some have no formal dining, some have walk-in closets... The variety is endless, it seems, and the skills involved are always outrageous. All of them are inspiring in different ways.
Thank you for your positivity, Bryce, and your excellent work behind the camera, Rasa. I really appreciate that you show us your passion, your heart through these videos.

For me, it makes it so much more meaningful that family and friends have contributed - this is how houses used to be raised - by the whole community working together to help the housebuilder. And how special to be able to look at part of your home and say 'that was builty by my friend' or 'that was donated by my cousin'. I loved her collection of spoons, all made by different friends and how it means she can choose 'who to have dinner with' each day.

I've been looking into the legalities around tiny homes in the UK recently, the UK really has a lot of red tape around what you can do on land, it sadly seems as though tiny homes, mobile homes aren't accepted yet. I would love to build one in the, but I don't have any friends that own large areas of land for parking! Anyone else on this journey please reach out to me I'd love to share ideas etc. ! Tom

@Daniella Thoelen And? Having help isn't a bad thing. She had a lot of say in the design and it sounds like she did a lot of work with help from her family and friends. It sounds like she has a job that uses her hands. She also did a lot of upcycling.
It used to be that family and community were very involved in building your home. Sometimes it seems that advancements in technology (I love tech BTW) has come at a cost of interaction with family and community.
A lot of people don't have the skills or family/friend help that she does but it doesn't take away the value of having your own home and living affordably. She choose a tiny house over a larger one that she would have needed a large mortgage to buy. I think that speaks highly of her to desire to live smaller and be as economical as she could while building her home.
I am happy for anyone who is able to get a home, especially when they do not get a mortgage. I wish I had her opportunities, however, I am not jealous about it. I want to own my own home at a price I can afford, but I don't think badly about those who have gotten theirs. I applaud what she has accomplished in her young life and wish her well.

I think this is my favorite Tiny House so far. Every single one makes sense for the person but this one feels like everything was repurposed and completely sustainably made. I love that.

The lighting is amazing! Does anyone know how that type of wall lighting is done? It looked almost like natural light and narrow windows framed along the upper walls.

Rebecca S agree...wish the lighting had been covered with a close up shot!

What a lovely home! And Flo is such a happy, capable person at 25. What an inspiration! These videos bring me such a sense of peace. Thank you Bryce and Rasa!

I love everything about this tiny home except for no door on the bathroom right next to the kitchen. Can you imagine having bathroom owners wife through to where you are cooking? I don’t think so! Florence is such an engaging young woman and so courageous to build her own tiny house! Kudos to you.

This is, quite possibly, one of the best builds you've visited so far. Florence has clearly put a lot of time and thought in to the design and space usage. Well done!
