- Finding an affordable place to live in a city like Auckland, New Zealand is no easy task! When the average cost of a home sits at around $1 million, young people especially can have a really difficult time getting their foot on the housing ladder. Cam and Amanda found their way out of the rent trap and into their first home by building a tiny house on wheels.
Their home is beautifully designed and constructed. It's open, spacious and is packed full of clever design features which make the home a dream to live in such as transforming furniture and even a hidden television in the loft!
Close to the city, they have found an amazing parking spot for their urban home and the surrounding area has been wonderfully landscaped to create a brilliant space for outdoor living.
I hope you enjoy the full tour of this very special urban tiny house. To follow Cam and Amanda’s tiny house journey, you can find them on Instagram: / camandas_tinyhouse

I hope you're all keeping safe and well in Lockdown! Living in a city like Auckland, it really can be hard to get ahead and the cost of living can make life incredibly difficult. That's why it's always so inspiring for us to meet couples like Cam and Amanda and share their story and how they managed to get a step onto the housing ladder thanks to a tiny house! I hope you all enjoy this weeks video. With love, Bryce & Rasa
Living Big In A Tiny House thank you. You too! 😊
Very smart, creative young couple! Lovely home! Thank you! And thank you Bryce for entertaining us in these trying times.
Realy inspiration for me... Thanks for your videos..👍👍
Bryce, you really must stop shaking people’s hands! Better safe than sorry!
The nice outside deck with the table and hammick really opens the space. What's with the rainbow flag outside ? 🏳️🌈
I don't think it's said enough Bryce but, these videos are amazing! The editing is so nice, the camera quality, etc. The shots you get of all these homes are pretty awesome too. Been binging tiny house videos all quarantine, I know I'm not the only one hahaha.
You are not the only one 😘👍
Me too. I love these videos.
We are there in same path of binge watching😉
and now I want to build a tiny house so I can live with my girl
Bryce the interviewer and his wife Rasa the genius behind the camera.
This is a really good layout. Definitely agree with separating the bathroom and the kitchen/living room areas, especially the washing machine.
It is good for livability, but it also requires longer stretches of plumbing and potentially wastes floor area creating a connecting corridor rather than continuous usable space (especially for smaller tiny houses).
I'm pretty sure you can't put a washing machine in a bathroom in the UK for safety, unless it a few meters away from anything using water, so not for a tiny home.
@@nataliebutler That's just the UK. In other countries there's special plumbing in bathrooms specifically there for installing a washing machine. As long as it's done following safety standards it's totally fine.
@@nataliebutler Isn't that because you can't have an electricity connection though?
@@BruceLeedar Yes, you'd have to think about the pipe work. Although I saw a tiny house recently where all the pipes and cables were channelled under the floor. IIRC it had hot water underfloor heating too.
I like that this couple has been living tiny for 2 years. In a lot of these videos, we see young people who have just made the transition and haven't lived in the homes very long. It's nice to see the longer term perspective in regards to understanding how realistic/sustainable this living can be! Thanks for another great video! Hope everyone is staying safe
Which videos are you thinking of? The recent ones have been long term use.
@@listay1 In a lot of videos in general, the people have been their tiny home maybe a couple of months at most.
In some cases, I find myself even wondering if they actually live in the tiny home at all or if they just got one because it was trendy, but don't really stay in it.
Very true!!
InfernosReaper I agree. I’ve seen nearly all his videos and wonder if some actually live there.
"I remember growning up...I've done my time washing dishes" - Amen brother....Dish washer till i die!
😊
Amen
Never seen a ketchup packet wash dishes, and with such passion...
I remember growing up too
A dishwasher was the very first thing I purchased with my first adult paycheck 😃
Love the attitude of this couple. you can tell they are creative and very respectful of one another. Great Design here.
It's a gorgeous house, but the first step to "rent free living" is always, "Someone I know has a backyard I can live in,"
Yeah, at this point that's a drinking game. Or take bets on how ling it will be before the home owners mention 'their parent's property'.
It's about imposing as little as possible on the people who had a hard in upholding the status quo 😉
And there it is! The obligatory moan about other people's good fortune 🙄
@@martineaaahhh7326 So that's what the truth sounds like to you?
"An agreement with the Aunt" is a diplomatic way to shield how much they are exchanging for rent of the space...I love this layout for so many reasons. The bathroom and loft pairing is great, especially the disappearing big screen. The greeenhouse/bumpout for the sofa area/guest bed companioned with the table for seating is also thrifty use of space. And room for rocks and art! I am a crystal/mineral collector and artist myself. And he's so Pan-like!
the guy looks like such a character, love his personality
C'pho Shongwe yeah I would love to hang out with this guy
Ifkr
That's us Kiwi guys for ya haha
That’s true 👍
Kinda looks like Andrew Scott (actor)
Good grief, every time a cracking little house. All these people who have so much talent creating well thought out comfortable spaces to live in. i spotted a book called Pandemic in the under sofa drawer and laughed out loud. So appropriate for the times we are living in. I wish them much luck in their future :)
Funnily enough, it's a board game where you, a group of scientists, work together to stop a pandemic. So yeah, it's pretty accurate lol.
Made me cackle too! It's a fun game though
@@adjmonkey accurate in that you give governments correct info and they ignore it? 😬🙈
Great observation @ Irene Ewens
@@adjmonkey Um...not. Try a group of scientists who are working with the globalist cabal to enslave the sheeple and tank the economy of the USA where a President is running to save children from being sex trafficked and sacrified to "Satan" and extracting their andrenochrome by these evil people.
Love this layout with the kitchen in front of the entrance doors, it is very roomy, I would be doing yoga right there!! And love Cam's sense of humour, especially about the rock shelf 😂
The rock shelf stole the show. So proud he got that shelf for them! Great episode!
And the collection spreads! I know only too well, it is a lifelong paasion for me. At 71, I now must own a modular cliff lol.
That "tiny house" is bigger than most London living spaces available for rent.
Cam H may I ask how much is the average cost for renting apartments in London?
@@exploreexostanexoandsuperj8096 depends on area and how many bedrooms etc. but id say rough price £500 per month for a 1bed in a outer london
Thats even good u should see prices in dublin @shubz
@@shubz4699 That's the lowest price for a bedroom in a shared house, not a 1 bed home. To rent a 1 bed house would be at least £1,500 a month.
@@nataliebutler Thank goodness you said that. I pay more a lot more than £500 for 1-bed in Yorkshire and I thought the world had turned upside down.
One day i hope he'll visit my tiny house in Bangladesh ♡
(If we survive this global phenomenon )
We would love to film some tiny home tours in Bangladesh some day!
I hope to see your tiny house in Bangladesh someday too. I have faith that we will. Blessings to you and your loved ones. 💙
M Shudipta we will all survive this🙏
Beautiful layout
Jesus has already told us what would happen in our future. The book of Revelation reveals the truth. Be of good courage.
Gorgeous, gorgeous house, and such a lovely couple... This episode had me smiling all throughout (again!) :-). Lots of love!
What a fun couple, so sad that kids can't afford to own homes these days...their future looks bright though, they have dreams and vision, what else does one need...besides a great punch line...AWESOME...!
These young *adults* can't afford housing because of poor decisions from past generations. But there are other aspects as well being a higher expected standard of living and things like wage suppression.
This couple are so cute! Love the idea of separating the kitchen and bathroom, Love the rocks!
But what about the john being below the bedroom? When someone has to go #2 and their partner is waiting upstairs and hears EVERYTHING!!!
This Tiny House looks like a little pocket of heaven. The plentiful closet space, the artwork, the kitchen, and that big table and hammock outside.
Really liked this Tiny House. Nice
decor and no clutter. Exterior is
fab.
I really like this unique layout, so many tiny homes are the same, the staircase, etc. is lovely. I wish there were more options for living in them but maybe in the future.
Ahhh a new episode 😁 ... It’s like having coffee with a good friend ... just so relaxing and enjoyable 😊 Thanks you guys 🙏😊
Glad you enjoyed it!
Ha ha it’s pouring here in Sydney just made a coffee to watch this as a break ...these shows by Bryce and Rasa are actually therapeutic , as soon as the music kicks in my endorphins kick in...basically it’s chocolate without the calories 🤣
Can't put my finger on it, but I really like this. It certainly does feel spacious. Beautiful.
Would love to see something where the people brought their own land. Like, reality is, most people don't have anyone to pay $50 a week to park their house.
Some places don't allow it. You'll notice the Australian ones (for example) are always on a property that has another, main residence somewhere on it - this is because most states consider it to be like a parked 'caravan'. Or you can stay on your land temporarily - while you design and build a 'real house'. It's a shame really. At least in NZ, you'll see tiny homes in urban areas. It's great they're openminded enough for that.
Sare Bear that part doesn’t bother me so much. They’re very fortunate, but I would be happy enough not having to pay a rent/mortgage and only having to pay a lot fee.
@@princekareem It really depends which council you belong to. I'm not sure this is legal. Where I am in NZ you are only allowed to park up in the same spot 3months per calendar year, in the neighbouring council it is only 2 months. But as long as no neighbours complain it usually goes undetected
I found my parking spot in a Facebook buy/sell/exchange group, pay $70/week including electricity.
And my council think it's great, been here over a year now.
Sare Bear my young sister-in-law & partner bought a residential section in Rotorua close to the lake, then self-built the Doris Jean (Shayes tiny homes from a very early LBIATH episode), used their KiwiSaver. It can be done! Living there this last year with 3 year old, two dogs, chickens and a rabbit, about to welcome a new baby. Previously they rented a damp, cold, uninsulated house, now they are now settled and we are really proud of them and fully supported them going tiny. They made the best choice for their family.
Like all the pictures on the walls, makes it look really homey.
And, quality art!
Read that as "really horny."
How is this rent free? Unless you have a relative willing to let you park in their garden it's not attainable for most people. What happens if the aunt wants to sell up or dies?
Jen Lund it is great my children and I are looking and would be willing to help to exchange time connection and support for a backyard. If you have other links apart from land share then please share?
My understanding is that the land is their aunt's friend's, so not actual family. They are really lucky if they're not paying any rent at all. But I'd expect that rent for a small patch of land would be less than rent for a flat, so it's still more sustainable than normal renting.
@@thejenstevie What is the website called?
I see this complaint a lot, but I bet there are people willing to rent out their backyard for some extra cash.
alice cai yes let’s hope so. That would be great
Anyone spot the Pandemic games board?
I did ! 👍 😂
Let's play!
My new favorite tiny house couple!!!! These two are so cute, and what a beautiful tiny house!!!!!
8:30 I'd hate to say it but that might not be the best game to play right at this moment. Just saying.
Woah! I didn't even notice that!!!!!!!!!
Hahaha I was just gonna write this! Timing is not the best😁
Did you see 'Pandemic' under the game box as she pulled it out? Hilarious.
@@10AntsTapDancing - That's what Chris is referring to Irene, the 'Pandemic' you mention is also a board game. :)
I caught that! 😂
I love how they compliment each other.
Thank you for keeping me sane during this trying times Bryce and Rasa. Stay safe both of you 😊😊😊
I'd love to see more tiny home builds that do not involve someone's family or friend lending them land in which to build. Maybe some vids where the couples/families build in an actual urban setting and maybe navigating areas such as permits..zoning..etc.
You know what’s beautiful more than this lovely house? It’s their lovely spirit and their genuine support for one another!
🌻
This is definitely one of my favorite tiny houses! I love the layout and how the kitchen is separated from the bathroom. I will definitely be stealing some of the ideas for when I build my tiny house!
This home is beautiful I love everything about it especially the windows
Very impressed with this layout.
One of my favorite homes that you have featured. The interior layout is really well-considered, and has a wonderful ship-like vibe with the white walls and timber trim throughout. And *LOVE* the TV disappearing into the loft floor! Their builder did an amazing job.
Smart couple, making a smart investment! If I could get back all the money I had spent on rent in the past....what a nice sum it would be. Fortunate to have a lovely small home on a lot of land.....which resulted from first getting into home ownership years ago and building equity. Could own very big house now, but fortunately, spouse and kids are really into sustainability so we are very happy going small.
This is a very clever layout... And it looks great i like the materials on the outside.
I would have made the bathroom a little smaller to have a bit more space for the little lounge area but this works for them 💯 it seems, they got plenty of outdoor space i bet the hammock is the place to lounge there 24/7
This house has got so many features that I would love to have in my own tiny house one day... Thank you for showing us this amazing home!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I know this was episode was done long before the lock down, but is it not just refreshing to see people w/o face masks! 😷😁
Yes! And shaking hands! And standing closer than 6’ apart. I did enjoy this couple. The guy has such a great sense of humor.

Yes an amazing couple, & he's really funny
I love the big door making the Tiny House very open to the outdoor space, and that window over the sofa is amazing, its a very nicely designed tiny house.
It really is!
I want to build my own tiny house when I’m older and hope to see you
Best of luck with your future tiny house build! :)
So do I- it's my dream! 😍
He jokes there's a shed. What he doesn't realize is that would be his space with kids. lol
Hi Bryce.. I've been watching your episodes from quite a long time and its really amazing to see a movement people created worldwide, I mean at least in most countries..
Being an Indian, I'm looking forward to see how people here have built their tiny dream houses in India especially when we see different cultures and climatic conditions in a single country..
Are you looking forward to cover India or has any plans??
We would love to visit India and it's certainly on our list of places to visit once the global travel ban is over.
I take it all back. THIS is the most beautiful tiny house, I've seen so far.
I mean, it's all relative, right? Auckland is likely real expensive compared to the rest of New Zealand...but... Los Angeles, where I live, is often in the top 10 list of most expensive cities...and Auckland is around the 80 mark.
Kai C The whole Greater Toronto Area in Canada and Vancouver are really, really expensive. And rents are really high. It’s nuts.
HEY CAM! We know you're gay. For your own sake, please leave your toxic relationship and find the love of your life elsewhere. She seems extremely overbearing and you it looks like you're having a miserable time; you have too great of a personality to let her suppress you like that.
I love the way Amanda & Cam have placed the television 😍😍 Such a unique way and not forgetting the washroom for a tiny home, I think its marvelous !!!! They sounds to be really friendly& funny as well😘.
Thank you Brynce & Rasa !!! Stay safe and you too have a lovely weekend 🤗🤗
Good luck to all those reading this as well! 😘😘
Councils are stopping people parking anywhere with tiny houses or RV’s. Parks are closed down now & overpriced anyway. In Australia you can only stay in a council park for two weeks here. If you don’t have an Aunt or friend to park your tiny house on then you are stuffed. My friend has a $250,000 mobile home & can’t park it anywhere in Queensland. Give us some advice or options please.
rv are not allowed ? :O
Love everything about this tiny house. From top to bottom and end to end. Love the exterior look and the perfect interior look and layout. My choice when I build my own.
Beautiful People. Beautiful House. Home Sweet & Tiny Home
Well thought-out house and lovely couple. So cozy and right in the middle of the city. How fortunate.
I want the same TV system in my apartment! What a great idea 😍
It sure is! TV lifts are a really great idea. It's nice to have a TV in your home, but its great to be able to not make it a constant focal point.
As a 25 year old living in Auckland I can attest to how hard it is to even imagine owning a house- and then if you did own a house actually affording repayments! But also, I wish that it was this simple. The truth is, Tiny houses are not a step on the property ladder. If anything, they are a way to hopefully be able to save more money than you could if you were renting. But that all depends on how much a loan costs to pay off for the tiny house and also how much $$ you have in the bank. Aside from this, there are the incredibly grey regulations as to permits and what is legal to build and live in in Auckland. My husband and I were so close- drawing up plans and everything- to building a tiny home. But after a while we realized that actually if you are wanting to get onto the property ladder and invest- you're better to move home and save for a couple of years for a deposit for some land that you can call your own. One day I will have my tiny home dream. If you owned a freehold tiny home and found a super cheap parking spot then you could save heaps of $$ for land. But what's to stop authorities knocking on your door demanding you to pay thousands of dollars for building permits/ inspections?
What an adorable couple & their tiny house is gorgeous! Love the art, rocks, bay window, shower, and just everything!
I love this house and the little details. I love that the washroom and kitchen are on two different ends. The best part about tiny houses is that they are designed to meet individual requirements which is great and makes living so much easier 💓
This is one of the best tiny houses I have ever seen. Thanks Bryce, thanks Rasa.
Being a fellow Kiwi...I just love this....a great design and well thought out. Well done you guys...my fav so far ❤️
I know this isn't a 'how to' channel but it would be great to talk about some resources for people who don't have family members (or family member's friends) who own property where you can park your house at. I know COVID will probably change some of that advice, but I'm going to assume a lot more people will be looking at this as their only option to home ownership after the lockdown lifts.
A. Spencer Maxim 🙏
Well, I guess my mind is in the gutter. Everyone saw the pandemic board game, I saw the line drawing of an orgy. It was funny how that piece of artwork just appeared in the middle of the discussion about the television.
I love their sense of humour and design. Beautiful home, great design..totally workable. 💚💚❤
Love this build and couple! Awesome tiny home! Also, his rock collection is gorgeous 😁.
This is so awesome eventually when I can get back on my feet with finding a job I plan to make a tiny home myself. I'd love to move to the California state before doing it but if it's on wheels then it wouldn't matter. Also I have no idea how to design or any kind of skills but definitely willing to give it a go with blue prints.
Nodesza 0 theres a tiny home community on an old campground in SD county near the city of alpine, I saw it online lAst week. Property is on the pacific crest trail! Rental space was 750 per mo including utilities. There was even a restaurant nearby.
Nodesza 0 good luck!
So Auckland Council are ok with THOWs? There’s a number of Councils around the motu making life tricky for those wanting to live this way.
Geenine44 I heard that too but you would need to speak to council and see.
I’m wondering if ya’ll couldn’t make the converted measurements font just a wee bit smaller. I could almost see them this time! Xoxox. P.S. LOVE this home, couple, & video! 🙏🏽 Thank you.
To everyone complaining about them having access to land - a tiny house is not a solution to cure your social anxiety. You still have to talk to people. This couple is parked where they are due to connections, not family, and there are tons of examples of people reaching out to farmers to see if they can exchange a parking space for some yard work. Stop moaning because you want to be one of the few who have property fall into their laps.
...aunt.

Obviously property prices can lag a little but making enough money to afford anything 2022 doesn't look likely.
Absolutly amazing Tiny House. Love the way they hide that big TV and the ugly toilette. This video and this cupple spread so much positivity. Videos like these make my day. Thanks for creating these videos and thx too all of the owners to show their amazing Tiny Houses! :D
Nice. A board game called Pandemic. Very time appropriate...
Hahaha. I didn't even notice that until someone pointed it out in the comments!!!
Geologist here, rocks just come with us, love us, tolerate our rocks 😂
Gorgeous home. I'd need a couple more feet between the sofa and the oven, but it's a brilliant design nevertheless.
Loved the design of the home but loved the couple even more! Gotta love a geologist with a dry sense of humor and she is the perfect fit for him! Thank you for making me laugh. I needed that!
I agree that putting the kitchen under the loft like most tiny houses seem to do is crazy to me. The kitchen is the one room where you're always standing! As someone who is over 6ft tall, that would get claustrophobic really fast. Designing my own tiny house, I prefer to put my multimedia room under the loft -- that's where I'm always sitting, so I don't need four or five feet of empty space over my head.
Lovely home, I am a minimalist still in training, and I love that they have enough space for hanging clothes...
Hey Cam, do geographers and geologists also get mixed up every time in New Zealand? God, I hate it when people think Im all about rocks. Im a geographer, dammit! Nice tiny house, looks really cozy and may be the first bathroom I think would feel alright for me in this series. Its just nice to be able to turn around without the fear to bump your head.
What a lovely pop out window, love it, and gorgeous functional stairs too. How lucky they are.
So comfortable layout and definitely my favourite tiny 🏠! Saving it as an inspiration for future! Good job, I could definitely feel home there! ❤️

Perfectly clean and tidy. Everything placed in balance and color. A job well done and could hardly understand the couple but from what I could get, they're very nice people... Thank You
This is one of the loveliest tiny houses I've seen. It feels so Kiwiana.
Fun couple! Lovely home and so well designed and decorated. I hope they continue to strive towards their dream and are successful. Thank you Bryce and Rasa, Cam and Amanda for sharing this lovely home.
Such a cute couple. And they really did a great job with the design of the house!
I wish them all the best for the future!!
At 8:31 is that a board game named PANDEMIC that I see there?
Wow... Well 2020 really is like a game... Twist and turns every second 😂
I just don't really understand where people get the money from to build these things all of a sudden. Could you take out a mortgage to fund the build? Otherwise how long are you saving for while renting and living the expensive life? A good decade at least I'd have thought.
Would never get a mortgage for building a tiny house. They like a normal house on normal land to own for 30years until you've paid.
Maybe a very large personal loan to fund part of the build is possible.
@@Michael-lg4wz - There are countries/counties/states where tiny homes on wheels can be financed as an RV, which means (in the U.S.) with a 15-year maximum payment period.
SUCH an attractive home, inside and out. I love the fact it's not a box on wheels and has a more interesting roofline. Tastefully designed/decked out & a lovely personal space for both Cam and Amanda. Nice that their clothes are NOT stored in the bathroom which, for once, is away from the kitchen...
I've always wondered is this legal in the USA?
If so this would be great for people with a tight budget.
What's the cost of building per sq/m in the US? (or sq/ft). In NZ it is nominally around $2500-$3500 /m2 Also gas price and general food? NZ being so geographically isolated and small is an extremely expensive place to live.
Cheers
People all over the world build tiny houses. Bryce has visited many that are in the US
Every state and even county has it's own zoning laws, I'm not all that informed, not really a part of it all yet, but I hear that in most states it's difficult to find places to park them, but getting them on certain trailer types ( the base) & whatever else it takes, to be registered as an RV, then You can use RV parks. Some types may be allowed at mobile home parks. For ones not on wheels, many places they just need to be over 600 sq. ft', so, technically not a tiny house probably, but can still be very small. Just wanted to share that & that there are many groups on FB about them, and I'm sure on other platforms, where You can hopefully find your local tiny home community to network with.
USA is one of the best places to do this as you can live in it without paying anything the the state you live in
Kind why "living in a van" is so popular, and this isn't any different when it comes to the legal stuff, if you are off-grid
Seattle is currently altering some zoning to allow small adjunct dwellings on single residential lots. It's taken years but is starting to happen across the country.
Bryce you've absolutely spoiled this community, I can't watch any other Tiny House videos because I always miss the heart and sentiment you put in. Love your content!

I always think it with every video that the tiny homes can't get any better, but then here you come with another one! I am so in love with this home and this couple. Their home is just lovely and looks so spacious. I love, love, love that the bathroom is away from the kitchen and that there is a little hallway going back to it. Such a spacious bathroom too. I'm totally in love with the bay window, that just give a feel of more space. Nice kitchen, nice loft-even this claustrophobic could sleep up in that loft! And that tv, what an amazing idea! Love the outside deck and walkway too. Well, as you can tell, I am totally in love with this home. They don't lack in storage and it isn't cluttered. It is just beautiful.
Every entrance to a tiny home from the host "ohhhh this is just lovely"
