      I'm 60 and plan to retire in 5 years. I have land with a 12x24 shed I'm turning into a tiny house. I have all kinds of plans for the land and plan to do most of it myself. I'm a little terrified that I'm not up to the challenge. I have a few different chronic pain issues. But I'm committed to giving it a good try.

    • @lizzieb6311
      @lizzieb6311 Год назад +3

      @@christineplaton3048 No. none of these would help in a tornado or hurricane. Wind uplift is the issue with hurricane…roof design (shape) - hip roof Or round) to allow wind to move around the structure rather than get UNDER the roof (example a gable roof with overhangs/eaves). Hurricane strapping that starts at the roof assembly and goes down the structure and through the trailer is then attached to helical piers that are driven deep into the ground to secure the structure. Tornado is another story…it attacks quite differently and unless you’re in a solid concrete dome structure you’re pretty much toast if it hits.

    Patrick did a great job explaining his thinking. Because he wasn't in a hurry, he could take ten years to build his house. He had the time to find and use recycled materials, which probably enabled him to build it out of pocket, and enjoy the process along the way -- and it only cost him $30K, which averages to $3k per year or $250.00 per month, . His house was small enough, when he got ready to retire he could just pull it up to his off grid property himself with his own truck. I really like his approach to the whole project, AND I like how it turned out. It is important for people to have the freedom to do their own thing, but he stuck to AND PROVED Jay Shafer's original concept. Thank you and thank him for sharing it.

    My friend's father bout what looks like to me to be about 4 to 6 acres of land back in the 50s in a now built up suburb of New Jersey near a quaint upper middle class downtown area a half hour outside NYC. He built the family home close to the main road,leaving a giant back yard where after his wife passed ,he built a tiny house for himself to retire in. He also built a sizeable work shop for his hobbies. His son then moved into the family home to raise his kids. What a great way to structure your family/property. Nobody thinks like this anymore. I believe pocket door are under appreciated. And your use of concrete is also fabulous. The covered walkway, all the windows around your loft, the drawers and closet, I could go on!😁💚 Seldom do I see such clever, original work ON A BUDGET anymore which has convinced so many that it cannot be done today, I know that inflation and other current issues have made it seem impossible and maybe you did get this done before so much of those problems blossomed but I'm thinking not so much in your case. Anyways...I'll leave my babbling here.

    Absolutely love the build! Funniest thing was him sitting in the tub with his knees in his chest. My hubby would fire me if i told him he could take a bubble bath in there lmao

    I’ve looked at a lot of tiny houses and this by far is the best one I’ve seen. Great job Patrick.

    This is gorgeous home from a very talented man. I love the way you've thought about the space. This is an innovative triumph. Using material you're accustomed to working with is awesome. The planned 800SF home will feel like a mansion. Thank you for sharing this beautiful, sweet place and your great explanation of how you did it. Awesome.

    Great little house and I love how you have integrated the movable steps to the loft. I would not want to have to climb a ladder. The counter tops and bathroom sink are a great!!! Thanks for sharing!
