- It's been more than a year in the making but the guest cabin is finally ready for guests. But there's more! This tiny little off grid cabin is built over our root cellar. Because our main cabin is so small we don't have room for family or friends to stay with us. Now we do! It also gives some stability to the temperature in the root cellar. Join us as we show you highlights of the construction process as we finished the inside. If you missed the first part of the build here is the link to the video.

Turned out soooo good! What an amazing space for both applications :)
Thank you! We can’t wait for our first guests. 😊
Looks great! What brand/model of ventless propane heater are you using?
First time I have ever seen a tiny house with a cellar!! That's so cool!!
Thank you! And thanks for watching. 😊
Finally a neat one with storm refuge!
We haven’t had to use it for that yet but glad it’s there for when we need it. Thanks for watching! 😊
Super clean and tidy my fellow Michiganders. Love from the Thumb.
Thank you! and thanks for watching. 😊
Rrot cellar?more like a stocked whole foods! Great job!
Thank you and thanks for watching! 😊
I was impressed with the little guest cabin, but the root cellar is amazing!
Thank you and thanks for watching and commenting!!
Love this! Have often thought a unit as you've built would be an excellent investment on an off-the beaten-path piece of property. Genius!!
Thank you! And thanks for watching. 😊
Indoor plumbing with toilet, sink, shower, tub and kitchen are simply a MUST.
Love the root cellar under the cabin.
Thank you! ☺️
Really nice! I have thought about something like this in my head before... first time seeing a small cabin built this way.
The soothing music makes this video Even More satisfying to watch! Nice little place! Good job!
Thank you! And thanks for watching. 😊
Beautiful. It’s always nice to get a job completed and be able to stand back and look at it with appreciation and know that you did that. And the dual purpose even makes it better. Great job guys.
Hey thanks! Hoping it works out to meet up this summer. 😊
@@ADifferentKindofQuiet I’m pretty sure we can make that happen, Glenda and I were thinking the same thing.
It looks really nice. I know propain is cleaner than a wood burning stove, but it gives off water vapor though.
YES, THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT I WANT, AND NEED, Y'ALL DID A GREAT JOB , THANK YOU FROM KY.
We have certainly enjoyed it! Thank you for watching! 😊
Just the best root cellar I have ever seen! And the cabin is cute too :)
Thank you and thanks for watching! ☺️
Really enjoyed y'all's video , awesome surprise at the end with the cellar
Thank you and thanks for watching! 😊
Great bug out cabin, particularly with all the food. Thanks
Thanks for watching! 😊
You did a great job on your little cabin. It’s just the right size to share with guests, and so cozy! I couldn’t help but notice the quilt on the bed, it’s perfect. And congratulations grandma and grandpa, I am sure June won’t get here fast enough. See you next time.
We are definitely excited! I love those denim quilts. My son wants another one as he wore the first one pretty thin. 🤣
ITS ALL 5 STAR THANK YOU FOR SHOWING. 😊
Thank you and thanks for watching! 😊
Really beautiful ! Maybe add a 12 volt fridge/freezer that will run off the cigarette plug of a power station, and you are golden !
That’s a good idea. Thanks for the tip and for watching. 😊
Very cool ! Nice work and congrats on your little cabin !
Thank you and thanks for watching! 😊
One of the coolest things I have seen in awhile. Just perfect
Thank you! And thanks for watching. 😊
Wow that’s pretty nice like that root cellar 👍
Thank you and thanks for watching. ☺️
What a nice surprise, finding a new video from you guys today 🙂 The weekender looks wonderful. Love the metal ceiling, TG walls and the awesome floor (with the nails). Congratulations on your first grandchild. So special. Looking forward to the greenhouse and all of the spring things coming up. Smart to do as you can and avoid getting into debt. Three years is not so long, in the final analysis. You've come so far in a relatively short amount of time. God bless
We can’t wait for June! Three years went pretty fast actually. 😊
This video is really getting some attention! You two deserve it. I've been a fan from the beginning. Was even first to like your Facebook page. Brooke even chimed in I see! Thanks for giving this downstater ideas for the future. 😊
It definitely surprised us with the growth! Thanks for sticking with us as we learn and grow. We enjoy sharing what we’ve learned.
That is a gold mine, thanks for posting. Love the weekender, blessings
Thank you and thanks for watching! 😊

Thank you! We can’t wait to use it. ☺️
I absolutely love this little cabin❤
Thank you! We can’t wait for our first guest. 😊
I like the guest cabin above the root cellar. It will help regulate the temperature better when it is real cold or hot. I spent 1 whole weekend building all of the shelves that my wife wanted. Now I have all of her friends wanting me to make them some.
That means you did a great job when everyone else wants them! Thanks for watching!
just got here
as a landscaper, it was JOY to see
you ''back sweep''
people don't know till they know...
well done!.
Thank you! And thanks for watching and commenting. 😊
u had me at, ''a different kind of quiet''...@@ADifferentKindofQuiet
Awesome little cabin, and that root cellar is 🤌
Thank you! I love my root cellar. 😊 Thanks for watching.
fellow Michigander here! i dont usually watch this kind of content tbh but wanted to subscribe in support of a Local Michigan YT channel.
Thanks so much!
I get many years use from my cardboard jar boxes. Really easy, I sprayed empty boxes with polyurathane. Got the Idea from instructions on a vintage Coleman Lantern box, to preserve the box for lantern storage.
I’ve never heard of that. That’s a great idea! Thanks for watching. 😊
Loved the root cellar! got my gears turning....@@ADifferentKindofQuiet
Great job folks. Congratulations.
Thank you and thanks for watching! 😊
The little cabin is awesome. The root cellar is really nice. You both make a great team. I enjoyed the music as well. Thank you for sharing.

We can’t wait for our first visitors. Thanks for watching. ☺️
You can sit right on the bed and bag a moose or deer at the same time. Using the window seal to steady your rifle. I have to tell you how impressed I'am with your root cellar. It is gorgeous.
Thank you! And thanks for watching. 😊
Very nicely done. Love the root celler.
Thank you and thanks for watching! ☺️
This is wonderful!!!

Thank you and thanks for watching! ☺️
❤ Cute set up in the cabin with a great use of space. Excellent root cellar ❤ Put some baking soda in a container to keep moisture down. ❤
Thank you! And thanks for watching. 😊
Whatever side the paper on the insulation faces(you have it holding the heat in)is the proper mount.Faceing outward keeps the cold at bay.
so warm and comfy nice work
Thank you and thanks for watching! 😊
Lovely job you two,I'd love that with a nice cup of tea and a bacon sandwich.
Sounds perfect. Thanks for watching! 😊
Awesome job guys !!!!!
Thank you and thanks for watching! 😊
Very nice, you should consider getting a different propane heater, maybe a diesel heater. To reduce moisture.
Thanks for the idea and thanks for watching!!
A diesel heater needs to be well vented. I worked in buildings heated by torpedo heaters run on diesel fuel. I would rather have been cold than breath that.
Looks Awesome Sir I hope you get many years of enjoyment 💯
Thank you! 😊
Wow I did not expect a cellar/basement which is really cool!
It definitely helps with food storage. Thanks for watching!
Me encanto el sótano y la despensa de alimentos. La cabaña está muy acogedora. Muchas gracias desde Tenerife Islas Canarias España 🇪🇦🌴🌺❤️
¡Gracias! ¡Y Muchas gracias por mirar!
Perfect little setup! Please install a carbon monoxide detector if you haven’t already especially with that propane heater. Well done space! Love the root cellar.👍🏻
Thanks for watching and commenting! Yes definitely, we have a CO/smoke alarm.
Very very VERRRRY NICE !!!! Great work you guys. Jelous but hoping mine will be half as nice as yours !!!!!
Thank you! I’m sure yours will turn out great. Thanks for watching. 😊
Wonderful. Great design and execution of a wildly functional building. Love it.
Thank you! We can’t wait to use the guest room. ☺️
Brilliant,I love that root store that was a nice surprise.
Thank you and thanks for watching! 😊
Very well thought out you guys..
Great job
Thank you and thanks for watching! 😊
Needs a bathroom for those times in the middle of the night to take a dump and it's -10 outside.
Been looking for land in the UP for a while now, keeping an eye out for that perfect property. Glad I found your channel here. Cheers!
I hope you find it! It’s getting harder and harder to find. Thanks for watching! 😊
The perfect property doesn’t exist. Get something close and make it work. Time is wasting.
@@wookiejesusofnazarethkashy1940 the perfect property does exist...all in the eye of the beholder. I have a short list of the specific things I need for any place. Yeah times wasting, but time isn't the only factor.
Nice work You two......great team work, It turned out GREAT. =)
Thank you! We can’t wait to fill it up with guests. It was fun building it but now on to the next project. 😁
I would love to have such a lovely cabin to live in. Beautiful space.
Thank you! We can’t wait for our first guests. ☺️
Very good job and I love all your future plans. I will be watching.

Great build and video. Thank you for sharing!
You’re welcome! Thank you for watching. ☺️
That would be perfect sitting on my land in the Upper Peninsula! 😍
Absolutely! We love the U.P! Thanks for watching. 😊
The problem is to keep these trespassing off your land!
The root cellar is so kool ❤️
Looking good. Only suggestion I can think of is a lip on the canning shelves to keep things from falling off.
Why do you think you MUST make a suggestion? Narcissist much?
There is always one out there. Try to make a helpful comment and the complain.
I appreciate the suggestion. I’ve seen them on other canning jar shelves. Might be worth doing since the floor is cement. 😂. Thanks for watching!
I'm currently using a portable one. May go the wall mount route. Thanks again.
Good job. It looks really nice
Thank you! We are looking forward to our first guest. Thanks for watching. ☺️
Outstanding Craftsman ship 👍!!!Great job guys!😇!😇!

spray foam expanding insulation for noise and thermal
Very cool!
Thank you and thanks for watching! 😊
Just beautiful.
Thank you! ☺️
I like your root cellar. It's clean and organized.
Thank you! I hope to keep it that way. 😂
It's a beautiful setup
Thank you! ☺️
I would run an electric dehumidifier in that basement and see what it pulls out. Might be getting some groundwater seep/condensation that just will need some help to dry out for the future.
We do run one occasionally but since we got it cleaned out and dried we haven’t needed it. Thanks for watching! ☺️
Well done! New friends here from Michigan! Cheers Colleen and Jonny
Welcome! And thanks for watching. We’ve found lots of Michigan people here. 😊

Thank you! We are excited. 😊 Thanks for watching.
Nice!
I am also doing the offgrid solar cabin in Michigan-it takes soo much more time and effort than you thought when you started. Like you, it was definitely a time and money as I could afford things problem-I’m not wealthy and work a fair bit.
That said, Things are getting to a point where we bring very little with us when we come to visit and now that there is a well, we could stay almost indefinitely-which is my retirement plan. The bigggest surprise was how well my initial (small) solar setup meets our needs-a lot of that is down to the quality of the solar charge controllers….. They are 99% efficient and just plain work-and they are made here in Michigan by a company called Diysolarforu.
I’m really happy for you two in your accomplishment! Having an offgrid cabin and root cellar (I’ll never do a masonry project again) is an amazing feeling.
Thanks for commenting. That’s what the heart of it is, you have to figure it out for yourselves and determine what you need vs what you want. For us the absolute need was for a quality power source and reliable water, we both still work and did not want to be fighting with those all the time. Everything else is start small and learn and grow as you figure out your needs and have the money. It sounds like you’re well on your way, congratulations!
@@ADifferentKindofQuiet It’s funny you mention water…. My experience has been that water and everything to do with it are the largest expense in your cabin, both in getting in in the first place (cost of well, cost of solar) but also in terms of the where your solar use goes. I DIY’d my solar setup so I saved a lot there, but the largest loads in the cabin involve getting water out of the ground and heating it for food, cleaning, and showers.
It’s all relative though, it doesn’t take a huge solar setup to run a cabin-my 1000 watt array and relatively small 900AH battery have been working so well it has taken some of the pressure to install the rest of the system until it’s more convenient….. and that’s with a 160 foot well.
Great job ❤I love it!! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you and thanks for watching! ☺️
So glad i found your channel tonight. I love the cabin, definitely Not to small. Id live in it for petes sake. You did a tremendous job building it. When you said root cellar below i thought ?? What are they talking about ? Holy Cow ! Lol. Amazing! You folks are true Survivors ! That is gorgeous down there. Look at all the food. I am genuinely happy for you. Everyone i tell to build something like that or get food that will last a year etc they all laugh at me. WTHeck... I don't want to see my great grandkids starve to death but how do i convince their mom to do something about issues that might come our way.? You folks are living your best life. Good for you. God Bless you all. Amen
