You have amazing instructional videos but im struggling a bit to find what i need because as someone new to strobes i don't know what questions to ask. Can i suggest you create recommended learning paths for your customers, arranged in a logical sequence and clearly linking back to the previous video in case you need more foundational knowledge then forward to the next video eg 1. Unboxing your strobe, putting it together, 2. Turning it on, navigating the menus and explaining what each option is/does, 3. Branching off to different scenarios starting with a very simple scenario eg 1 strobe in manual mode, pairing with the trigerr, how to test fire, how to adjust. Next how to use as ttl, next how to add a second strobe and control them separately using channels and groups etc. You probably have all the content already its just not well organised from my experience as a new customer.
Thank you so much, we really appreciate the detailed feedback! I will share this with our team and make sure we can make the process easier for new strobe users
@@WestcottLighting Might I suggest you sit down and develop personas for your customers e.g. the hobbyist buying their first speedlight, the enthusiast looking to set up a basic one light studio in their garage, the person who is expanding from their garage into a larger space, the person looking to develop a side hustle shooting outdoor portraits / headshots / kids or whatever. Think what are the needs of these different personas. What do they want to learn. How can you help them to grow. Often these personas might not know what they don't know so won't know where to find answers from your extensive resources. This is where learning paths tailored to each client will prove invaluable. Your learning videos is why I chose to invest in your system. I've just bought my first strobe from you but I plan to expand this over time as my skills improve. So the more you help me to grow the more you help your own business. This is something I know a bit about feel free to reach out if you feel I can help you here.
My FJ400 arrived 2 days ago (single light backpack kit) and i'm already loving it! Way to go Westcott, it's amazing! This video was such a huge help as well. This 4 minute video helped me figure it all out.
I am having trouble getting the HSS to work with my Sony A7IV. I’m using the universal trigger with adapter. It seems the only way the HSS works is if I turn on wireless flash from the Sony menu but then that leaves it in HSS even when I’m below the 200 shutter speed.
A search of the FJ400 manual does not find SLP. How can it be that the screen displays SLP, the flash will not fire as set up and there is no answer in the manual?
@@janlundberg7717 The SLP (SLeeP) mode is not part of the FJ400 -- it's part of the FJ-X2M trigger. You can put any group(s) into one of 3 modes: TTL, M and SLP. Any group you have in SLP mode will not fire. You somehow setup whatever group you're using for you FJ400 to the SLP setting. Just go back to the trigger's main menu and change it back (to TTL or M).
For shooting hummingbirds should I shoot TTL or high speed sync mode or freeze mode? I have to shoot upwards of 1/6000 at 5.6 to 6.3 to stop their wing motion.I have a three light set up with FJMX remote on a Sony A1. I would be shooting in San Diego, no clouds lost of sun. Any recommendations on settings on the three speedlights?
Is there a conversion chart for the power output? I’m use to reading 1/1 flash power 1/4 1/250 etc. would be nice if there was an option to switch it to this output reading.
The channel/group that I normally use now all of a sudden is in SLP mode and I can't get it out. This has happened to a couple of the channel/groups that I have.
I have been enjoying shooting with FJ400 a lot, but I do have a problem with TTL adjustment. When I adjut light output in TTL mode on FJ-Xm2, I expect the FJ400 strobe to have equal adjustment made on the display but nothing happens. TTL light output remains the same on the strobe. With TTL initial setting of 0.0, I can increase light output on FJ-Xm2, to say 3.5, but the strobe light output will remain the same with 0.0. What is missing here?
±3 TTL Flash Exposure Compensation (FEC) on the FJ-X2m is independent of the Flash Exposure Compensation (FEC) on the FJ400 Strobe. Meaning, a change of the FEC ±3 on the FJ-X2m will adjust the light output in TTL mode, however, the FJ400 screen will not indicate the FEC changes made on the FJ-X2m. The FJ400 FEC can be further adjusted ±3. Set the strobe display to show both the FJ400 Strobe FEC (large letters) and the FJ-X2m Wireless Trigger FEC (small letters) by turning the M->TTL setting to ON in MENU 6 on the FJ400.

I know this is an old video.. but can you explain the Continuous Capture Function? I'm a pet photographer and this could come in handy
I purchased a FJ400 last week. Is this video still accurate for the newer FJ400?
Yep!
what video do you have for syncing two lights

Is there a way to power on/off strobe units with the remote trigger? And I mean cut a unit out if I only want to use key light, for example.
Yes! Use your trigger to set the light to Sleep Mode (SLP) and that will keep it from firing.
Can I use HS mode in both manual and TTL, or just TTL?
