    I purchased the whole gamut of this system. I love it. The fit and finish are exquisite, and the functionality is streamlined and simple! The quality is there. They really have thought about accessories and options for each of these lights. Wescott has managed to develop a magic product series that works incredibly, if not effortlessly together with one another.

    With these consumer/prosumer level flashes the Chinese companies have basically killed all US competition with lower prices and better technologies over the past half decade. One thing US companies still have over the Chinese flash companies is their brand power and marketing in the American market.
    When you can't compete with your own products, I guess it makes sense they go down this route, leveraging what you are good at to make more bucks... only thing that rubs me the wrong way is how hard they are trying to hide the fact their flashes are not only made in China, but also designed and developed in China, by a completely different company.

    At first, I thought, "Oh great, another system to compete with Profoto, but don't we already have that in Godox/Flashpoint?" It's not always about ideas; sometimes it's about execution, and it sure looks like Westcott got a lot of things right. My photography habit has evolved over the past couple of years with the Flashpoint system. Ecstatic that I could finally afford larger monolights, formerly unattainable by most amateurs without major means, I've managed to learn a ton, but I have to admit I've always lusted after those Profoto B-lights I'd see on all professional photo sets. There's a reason pros use them--robust construction, clean design, professional finish, and consistency--and they cost a lot of money for a reason. That's why Profoto hasn't had to drop prices dramatically to compete with Godox and Flashlight, because in the commercial realm there isn't any competition. Godox and Flashpoint certainly have a place in the industry, and I've deeply appreciated their impact on my photography...BUT, as a big fan of clean design, I have never liked the feel of anything produced by Godox/Flashpoint with the exception of the AD200's, which are a delight. Almost every other unit, and I own them all, has construction flaws, terrible menu systems, nomenclature, and clunky aesthetics. In short, they feel chintzy compared to the Profoto system, and anyone honest with themselves will admit that.
    But this Westcott strobe system seems like a real alternative to Profoto, which I simply cannot afford at this time. They look beautifully designed and the price-point is exactly in line with Godox/Flashpoint. Wow, looking forward to my next visit to NYC, where I can see these in person.

    Nice video shoot great ideas and I noticed Seth putting a dome on the FJ200 even though its already got an extended flash tube - I usually put a Stofen type diffuser on my regular rectangular head speedlites to extend and do like 360° of light in an umbrella or softbox -

    • @LastXwitness
      @LastXwitness 3 года назад +1

      Well actually not an “extended tube” in the sense of it acting like a bare bulb style that protrudes like older style heads so the dome helped blow light around inside the umbrella to cover all that surface more evenly before leaving the diffuser sock

    While this is a year ago, one thing I noticed is the diffuser dome locks into place on the FJ200. I recently purchased the FJ200 and the "Diffuser Dome with FJ80 adapter". It says it fits both the FJ80 and FJ200 with a magnetic connector. However, on the FJ200 it does not click and sit down in a groove like it does on the FJ80. Needless to say, if the light is bumped and moved quickly, the diffuser falls off. Thankfully it's made of a durable plastic - since it falls off so easily! Seth / Adorama? Got any suggestions? I can not find a bracket for the FJ200. If this is the case, then this is a piss-poor solution for an otherwise well performing product.

    • @LastXwitness
      @LastXwitness 3 года назад

      Well there’s def still applications for pocket wizard systems it’s just now you’re more likely to have integrated radios but for other systems whether they be older like my Speedotrons which give 2400ws blitz of light for some large format/alternative processes or even to tap into systems via sync that may have a radio built in but enable you to do more like multipop, longer range , cycle groups on and off per shot for diff looks and Much more. They may not be as much of a given but they are far from gone in my opinion..& also it’s more like there’s quite a gap in the market for options when it’s high end profoto that I rely on or more budget friendly flashpoint etc. more players in the space keep more progression of features and price point variety for us as the users in fact most of what profoto has put out first over the years has trickled down into most of the designs we are seeing today

    This seems like Wescott is trying to build a lighting ecosystem similar to what Godox has done but with more features!

      Any legitimate lighting company puts together a line as a system it been that way forever with brands to piece together how you need instead of no name brands that put out a light with zero support so this is westcott showing they are committed to bringing their version and also bringing their killer customer support/warranty with it
