  • The B&H team takes the Westcott FJ80 and FJ200 into the studio for a hands-on review. These new lights expand on the wireless lineup started by the Westcott FJ400. Both lights are designed to maximize compatibility across camera brands. The FJ80 can sit atop virtually any camera while the FJ200 works in tandem with the FJ80.
The FJ200 serves as a compact wireless strobe. It features an impressive 0.5-1.3s recycle time, compatibility with sync and TTL modes, the ability to shoot up to 20 fps and sync up to 1/8000s, a bright, color LCD panel, a battery capable of 450 or more full-power flashes and more!
The FJ80 features a color touchscreen LCD, natural-looking light and falloff, the ability to fire up to 1/10000s and sync up to 1/8000s, the ability to discharge at up to 20 fps when shooting continuously, a battery that lasts for about 400 full-power flashes and more. This camera flash is also firmware updatable, meaning it is future proof!
What are your thoughts? Would you use these as portrait lighting?

Not sure if it's too soon to say this, but these are the Profoto killers. Super affordable and versatile. Westcott has been killing it with their new flash system.

They're amazing. I just made the jump from Godox to Westcott and couldn't be happier. I have an FJ400 and two FJ200's. The lights are beautiful and work flawlessly.

@@coolbuddydude1 I had issues with firing consistency with my Godox AD400 Pro. I missed far too many shots. The FJ400 has worked almost flawlessly since it came out of the box. Also, and this isn’t as important (but still slightly significant), but the FJ200’s look so much better than the AD200’s. They just look higher end and more professional when I’m on a job. The Godox stuff was fine. It’s a good system. But for similar prices, I’m much happier with the Westscott gear.

Glad that I found this channel. I'm a wedding photographer and I was thinking about adding Profoto A1 to my flash system, just because its recycling time is fast. My main flash, Nikon SB5000, also has a fast recycling time but I'm using it with a power battery pack( 12 AAs). All the Godox flashes, v860ii, V1 and AD200, their recycling time get progressively slow, like 3 sec, 6 sec, and 9 sec and all of them would become useless.
So my big question is , does the FJ80 have a fast recycling time? I don't use full power but during a wedding reception, I 'll have to shoot every 2-3 seconds and the flash fast recycling time is crucial. Otherwise, I would lose a lot of good shots and with the Godox flashes, that's exactly what happened.
If the FJ80 has a fast recycling time, I would say that its price is very reasonable as compared to the SB 5000 and the A1 and I will get it.

Nikon SB-5000: Recycle Time Approx. 1.8 to 2.6 Seconds
Westcott FJ80: Recycle Time Up to 0.5 to 1.2 Seconds

How come no firmware on FJ80 for TCM & auto flashhead zoom when zooming lenses?
    Missing Bluetooth?

    • @BandH
      @BandH  2 года назад

According to Westcott, they state that the Westcott FJ80 Universal Touchscreen 80Ws Speedlight does function with the *TTL to Manual Equivalent* feature. The exposure would be taken at the focal length originally used with the TTL exposure; if you zoom the lens, the exposure would still stay the same as the original exposure once the metering is switched to the Manual setting. The Westcott FJ80 Universal Touchscreen 80Ws Speedlight does not have Bluetooth.

    • @thomastuorto9929
      @thomastuorto9929 2 года назад

Profoto at over twice the price will probably give you faster recycling times & maybe a higher speed flash. Won't come with any accessories which will have to be purchased separately. If you're a pro or can just out rite afford & want profoto, it would most likely be a better option. And should be at that price point. If you think you would add a more powerful flash eg. 200 watts & up, Profoto really starts to get expensive. If you're a pro & can write it off your income??? Will probably last a lifetime but as we see every few months, the tech changes & improves all the time.

What do I do now (11/27/22) that the FJ Westcott site warns "Mac Users Please Read: MacOS Ventura users may experience issues copying firmware files from their computers to the FJ Wireless devices due to operational updates to Finder software. Updates should be installed via previous MacOS versions or a PC." I think that means I can't add FJ Westcott electronic products until this issue is settled. That I can't insure firmware compatibility among various strobes, speedlights, and triggers? I have been unable to downgrade Ventura to an earlier OS and don't have access to a PC.

One might choose these Westcott flashes over the Godox flashes based on its universal flash trigger system, build quality and customer support. Additionally, Westcott has a large number of excellent light modifiers that can be utilized with their FJ series flashes.

    • @bryang4856

I recently made the switch from Godox to Westcott and couldn't be happier. Here are my reasons:
      1. US Based Company - Unless you buy Flashpoint from Adorama, then good luck getting service for lights if something goes wrong.
      2. Features - The mask function and freeze mode are two features that you won't find on the Godox system. I use the mask function regularly and it's pretty awesome.
      3. No AC Adapter necessary on the FJ400 - The FJ400 comes with an AC/DC adapter, unlike the AD400 Pro, which requires a separate, bulky and not inexpensive AC adapter to operate while plugged in. This is a huge bonus for the FJ. The FJ200 requires an AC adapter if you want to use without draining the battery.
      4. The displays on the FJ80 and FJ200 are beautiful. They're simply cooler and better looking than the Godox equivalents, especially the AD200, which is rather ugly. Clients have commented on how nice the lights look and often ask how expensive they are. That adds perceived value to my work.
      5. Everything I've ever gotten from Westcott has worked well, arrived on time (or early) and been more durable than discount brands like Neewer.
      6. The FJ400 is cheaper than the AD400 Pro, even before the additional Godox AC Adapter.
I loved my Godox gear, but am still very happy I made the jump. I wish I was getting compensated for saying all of this about Westcott, but I'm not. I'm just a big fan of their products and customer service. I have many, many nice things to say about Godox as well.

Westcott does not make them at all.
      ATG/Jinbei sold it to Westcott.
ATG/Jinbei also sold it to a German company, called Rollei.
Just like ATG/Godox make it for B&H under Bolt & Adorama under Flashpoint
Jinbei is a very big company.

Hundred of photographers were waiting for B&H to inform us the ATG's Jinbei HD-2 Pro Speedlite for $185.00.
    It was a scam.
B&H and Adorama have none in stock just like many Jinbei light & equipment.
The same can be said for Orlit & Jinbei from Adorama, transmitters & speedlites died without warning.
Now ATG is not happy that Westcott inflated the price up to $330.00 and many new professionals didn't know that the ATG Auto2 is missing.
That is a big price jumps from $185 to $330.
And no one shooting much during COVID-19 & photo slumps
I was planning on ordering a dozen of HD-2 Pro Speedlites from B & H.
    But now seeing this...
ATG has these lights in the following:
    1, ATG
    2. Jinbei
    3. Orlit
    6. Rollei (and you think the German makes their own equipment)
Your comments would be greatly appreciated.
