2 things that have me thinking about switching to Wescott fj400… 1: For sports action portraits the Wescott recycles way faster. So you can do 10 photo bursts. It’s better than godox and even profoto. (Watch John Quartz comparison) 2: You can plug it into the wall and use it on AC. No adapter needed.
Thank you for this comment! Your comment about the recycle time is the deciding point for me. I do a lot of dance photography. I'll look up John Quartz video next!
For sports action, it's depend of the sport you want to shoot. If you need to freeze action, the Godox is really better (take a better look at their flash durations). If you only need to shoot faster, it also depend of the recycle time that you need (it's decrease with the output you're using). But it's true that at full power, 0.9s by far better than 2.3s. The Godox AD400Pro is also a very fast strobe, but with shorter flash durations.
It's amazing how a simple thing like a reflector can make a world of difference. Thanks for another great vid and good luck to whomever wins the flashes.
I'm researching portable strobes for outdoor use, as I no longer have studio space. I'm looking at the Westcott, and this video was very informative for me. Thanks!
Hi Marcus! I have the Westcott FJ-400 with the universal trigger because hubby uses Canon and I'm Nikon but that's not the point. I watched this video AND your video on reflectors. THANK YOU! The Leftfoto plus the Gogox defuser does increase the output by about 2 stops and I'm thrilled. Thank you for all your hard work and excellent information.
Your videos make it clear that you understand lighting and it’s interesting that these two lights are basically the same. In a world where rebranding happens a lot it’s good to know where alternatives exist. I use Godox flashes (V860ii) and honestly I love them. I’ve used camera brand flashes in the past and these days there’s no need to pay marque premium prices. I have more of a mish-mash of video lights however, but the Godox again are strong contenders. Now all I need to do is up my composition game to match the camera gear I have 😊
Ha, this was brilliant. I love that no one else has pointed this out. I always figured the Wescott 400 was smaller never seeing one in person. Don’t know why but this was super entertaining for me.
It never ceases to amaze me how many items, whether studio strobes of cordless power drills are made by the same over seas manufacturer with just a few tweaks to color and secondary components.
Thank you for sharing this!! I just tried Wescott FJ400 in HSS with Canon EOS R3 / Electronic 1st Curtain shutter & it is unusable as you demonstrated, with Mechanical shutter mode is ok. Oddly enough FJ 200 is better in HSS mode with Electronic 1st curtain...
Firstly - you realise that Westcott don’t manufacture this product - it’s a rebadged Jinbei HD400. The big advantage of the Jinbei/Westcott is that the battery can also be used with mains too.
Good comparison, thanks! You may have saved me with that high-speed sync info, since that's entirely what I need it for. Fuji GFX sync speed is only 1/125th sec, so for outdoor beauty dish use with apertures that product bokeh, I'm going to need HSS.

Would love to see you compare the Godox AD400Pro vs AD600, focusing on the importance of the differences in their light output, color stability feature, and refresh time in real world photography scenarios like weddings and portraits.

I owned both lights, when it comes to recycling time, wescott never disappoint and more reliable and more faster than godox. If you have camera that has very nice white balance or good color science, you will love wescott fj400 light some bcs it looks more cleaner than godox, but if you use a camera light sony with less color science, godox will be very good for you bcs it tends towards cooler color. From my own user experience, wescott kills godox in overall comparison, am not capping
Our local camera store sells both Westcott and Godox. The Westcott rep has been to the store several times for shows and classes. He says that the Westcott flash output is cleaner in terms of color cast, and that the Godox has a color cast. I've heard customers say this also but I have not seen it in my shoots, which is all Godox. The manager of the store puts it this way - Godox is good but Westcott is a step up. With Godox you will likely have to do more processing to take away a color cast. Any comment on this? Have you compared the color output of these two flashes? Many thanks, Joe.

The westcot is a Chinese company called JINBEI. This company JINBEI produces the modifiers that they sell like the Lindsay Addler spot light and others.
The Westcott light is made by Jinbei Photographic Equipment and has no relation whatsoever to Godox. The similarities are only skin deep. Otherwise a good video.
I find it funny that everyone gets so caught up in the watt power in the name. 400 watts has nothing to do with the output, that's just telling us how much power it takes to charge a full power flash. I've seen 250 watt strobes give off the same amount of light as a 400 watt strobe.
Maybe the 600 is really the 400. Test the PCB Celestial, which is 500 watt seconds true rated, it comes in brighter than the AD600 no reflector vs no reflector.
That is really interesting. Thanks for always just being brutally honest with the reviews. I am looking to put lights in my new studio set up. Fingers crossed for the giveaway!!!! 🤞🤞😀 Thanks again!!!! #respect!!!👊
They don't compare the FJ400 to an AD600 because it is 400W/s while the AD600 is a 600W/s monolight; it's in the name. It is literally not the same light and the power output is also different only similarity is the size and design (which isn't even that similar)
They are almost the same size and weight. If the Westcott only had the same output as a Godox 400, then it would be too annoyingly big, bulky and heavy, but since the light output is way more than the Godox and more similar to the 600, hence this video.
@@cafellemusic3295 They have supposedly “tweaked” the software, but other than the visuals they are essentially the same. What Westcott do provide however from what I understand is excellent customer service.
