I’m 59 now, but I have been a strobist since I was 16. I love that there are still people who know how to do it properly. It separates the boys from the men, per se.

canon speedlites (at least the ones i use) have focus assist for shooting in the dark... it activates automatically as needed if it is too dark for the camera to focus

Great how to video Eli! Just one question, when you use your speed light, what mode are they in? TTL/M? I missed your workshop in Chicago, however will you be having another workshop in Chicago in 2022?
I always use my flash in manual mode. I'm working on my workshops for next year as we speak 😁

In my cities, this kind of set up is already forbidden because the side walk is blocked. I was cited a few times this year because I did not not have permits to shoot in the streets/parks.
Here in South Texas we're lucky!

Do you use the dish inside the soft box for outdoors? Also do you use any CTO gels for outdoors in the evening?
No dish or CTO was used during this shoot.

I control each like separately with the Wescott FJ X2M trigger.
Hey Eli. I'm trying to purchase the right equipment to help me with a majority of my outdoor jobs - I usually don't need a lot of power - I shoot natural light primarily, very rarely studio shoots but sometimes. Do you think two of these units would be enough power for the occasional studio shoots? My main goal is get something portable and easy to carry.

Just got the fj400 strobe. Switch over form godox. I still have a lot of glow ez soft boxes can pair them with the strobe without the insert?

Hay bro I have the Wescott fj400 and it has a light on it. Do I need this other speed light that u have even if I can just use the light on my strobe?
You can use the FJ400, but you will have more flexibility with the FJ80 due to the watt power at night.

Is there a big difference in quality of light when using 1. a speedlight pointed away from the model bouncing into the umbrella and back out through the diffuser VS 2. any other light pointed at the model shooting through a diffuser?
Minor difference it all depends.
what are you overall thoughts on the Sigma 35 1.2, i have the Sony fe 35 1.8 but have been contemplating sigma's lens. I too shoot with Sony A7iii & resently purchased Sigma's 105 1.4 ( e-mount) / love it
Its great but the size of the lens may be an issue for you.
Size is no issue , I love the big daddy 105 . Just wanted to have an idea from you since shoot it thanks my friend
What about white balance settings? What setting do you recommend?
I set mine to Auto when shooting outdoors.

Hello Eli, it's your a next great movie😁... I wonder about changing my speedlights Youngnuo 560 and 568 to Godox V1 ( I think that it is the same like Westcoot). Do you recommend this speedlight ? I also think about Godox Ad200 but this lamp doesn't have the modeling light.
I've never had a chance to use the Godox V1 but from what I've seen I'm sure its a good Speedlight. A few things to consider is if you need cross compatibility between different cameras the FJ80 works with different camera brands (Canon, Sony, Nikon, etc.). Another feature is the big touch screen with the FJ80. The touch screen IMO makes the FJ80 Speedlight the easiest flash I've ever used.

How are you choosing your metering mode?
I have it on evaluative metering but on mirrorless cameras I just eyeball it.
