    You needed to sand first to remove the previous poly probably.

    i wonder if maybe a bit of sanding prior to staining would've helped not make it blotchy....nevertheless the end result is absolutely beautiful

      Thank you! 😊 I bought a low quality stain I think that was the biggest issue 😅 I know better next time!

      ​@@EricabyDesign I think Ikea natural wood actually has a sealer on it so sanding would have taken care of the problem. The stain didn't soak in because of the sealer. It still turned out really cute.😊💙
