In case anyone is wondering, the keymode might best be considered Eb Phrygian - with notes Eb, E, Gb, Ab, Bb, B, Db - and chords (II - i - iv) where:
(II) is an E major 9th chord
(i) is an Eb Minor 7th with a minor 6th substituted for the 5th (is there a name for this type of chord?); and
(iv) is an Ab Minor 7th inversion with a sus2 and a sus4 instead of a minor 3rd and 5th respectively (is there name for this type of chord? Sus2-4?)
With that said, music of much complexity at all hardly sticks to single keymodes, but this song seems simple enough I think we can fit it into the Eb Phrygian box.
You can see I took the bass note as the root note for every chord: E - Eb - Ab
With those root notes you get the chord types: E major, Eb minor, Ab minor, all together comprised of notes Eb, E, Gb, Ab, Bb, B, Db.
So far as I'm aware, only Eb Phrygian allows those notes in that order with those chord types. For those that want a recap, the phyrgian chord types are:
i - II - III - iv - v* - VI - VII ; and the corresponding step sequence is:
H - W - W - W - H - W - W
If I missed something and there's a better keymode reference frame for this song pls let me know!

Hello love what ur doing been listening to prince all my life.. but I respectfully disagree with this progression.. 1st chord is right but, but its actually f# maj7 then c#maj7 for that last chord at the end of the phrase played it many times myself try it yourself u hear the subtle difference. So its g#maj7 to f#major7 to c#maj7.
