    Love the video! My husband wanted a puffy recliner for the living room. He went on and on about this recliner he had in the 90’s and how much he loved it and wanted to find the exact same one. I was mortified but quickly realized he gives me COMPLETELY free reign to decorate the entirety of the house. He loves my choices, compliments them with a smile so the man got his ugly, puffy, yet comfy, recliner. I purchased the exact recliner he wanted but had it made in a fabulous, neutral, fabric. I throw the most chic blanket and pillow on it. It hides it well enough and my wonderful husband gets to enjoy his chair. 😊

      Now that's how to do it! I did the same, my husband is fine with me decorating the entire house my way. All he wanted was a recliner that fit his nearly 7' frame. We bought him the The Beast. It's hideous but makes him so happy.
      The monster chair has become a bit of a conversation piece and pic opportunity. My smaller women friends love to sit in it and laugh.

    I had to laugh about the leather recliners- I am a single woman and I chose to buy my double seat recliner leather love seat with the cup holders in between the two chairs 😆 and I love it. It’s in my media/tv room which was a converted garage. I don’t care if it makes my room look old- it’s comfortable and fits my needs/wants. Unfortunately the ceiling has the popcorn paint and fan with light and those are things I do want to get rid of. I am looking to get a ceiling fan with just 3 blades and no light and find someone to remove the popcorn effect. So, I do want a touch of modern worked in with my recliner sofa. Love your content and your laugh is infectious.

    We live in the Westetn Colorado desert so it is very impractical not to have ceiling fans in certain rooms. Instead, I am changing over my ugly ceiling fans with wood and giant lights to very sleek, white fans with small wall hugging lights (because my husband loves top lighting) and this helps to deminish the impact on the room. They are not very noticeable when they are the same color as the rest of the ceiling. I think that sometimes a ceiling fan is needed to move air and cool the room, so totally get rid of them isn’t always practical. That said, we are going to replace the fan in our vaulted foyer with a chandelier because that fan really serves no purpose.

    I can not take my black out curtains down in my living room. My husband works 3rd shift and can only sleep in his recliner. We are empty nesters so no kids but the curtains can be pulled back. He likes them that way when he is awake. We live in a community and close to the train tracks. Our house is well insulated and with the curtains he doesn’t hear the train. I’m in the back of the house and I never hear the train. We live in West Tennessee and you know it gets hot down here. We have a canopy of trees and a well tuned A/C heating unit. The black out linings keep it cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Our all inclusive utility bill never gets over $230 for a 3 bedroom house.

    • @bugsbunny2357
      @bugsbunny2357 Год назад +4

      Isn't there quite an issue with the upkeep on curtains? I was recently considering roman shades; but there's the same issue with keeping them clean (and I have cats and one cat sheds like nothing I have seen before -- he's a professional shedder and his hair is embedded in everything).

    • @Justaregularoldplumbus

      I just vacuum my curtains when I vacuum my floors. I only have 3 windows in my apartment so it takes like 5 minutes lol. We can’t get rid of our ugly blinds so we keep them tucked up and hidden behind the lovely curtains (sheers + regular). Roman shades are also pretty, I assume you’d wipe them if they’re wood? Idk how you’d clean them if they’re fabric, maybe vacuum? Wash?
      Edit: I think the problem with blinds is most people actually use them and even keep them visible (just opened) when not in use. They’re also unnecessary if you can get curtains instead (or shades, or even prettier wooden blinds).

Since most people expect to see TVs in a den, it’s easier to work it into a cohesive look. I’ll eventually put one in my den too, but I think it was more bang for my buck in my bedroom.

    I adore your videos even though we have a very different style as decorators. I just want to point out that proper drapes have a function that may get more critical as the reorganization of covid and other global politics continues. We have seen a huge jump in fuel prices and drapes really do help control home comfort when used properly. Who is teaching kids how to draw them on the south side in the mornings in the winter and close them when the windows are no longer capturing heat? Good quality drapes can and should be laundered and UV rays controlled where needed. I think they will be rolling back into style in no time …

      I like IKEA actually. But you have to be picky about what you purchase from them. I’m happy with th birch sideboard I bought for my tv in the family room. It upgraded the room for sure even though it was from IKEA. And actually, the piece I bought was recommended by Valentina I think this past summer.

      Agreed! I can spot a cheap 2013 ikea Pinterest remodel from a mile away, so much more dated and sad than nice antiques. Although I agree w Valentina that it’s not my preference to have a themed house with ALL old furniture from the same era, it’s better to mix and match old pieces w character with updated more minimal pieces. My mom is a retired interior designer and her house is lovely with quality pieces but it’s all early 2000’s Tuscan style!! I’ve been goading her to mix in some different styles (French country, warm neutral minimal, etc), replace some of the Pottery Barn style matching sets with more actual vintage pieces, and to minimize her clutter. It looks a lot fresher now than before I started doing that.

    My husband has never asked for a recliner because he knows better🤣 Unfortunately he loves ceiling fans. I've warned him that one of these days he's going to come home to a beautiful light fixture it it's place and 1 for our bedroom is just waiting for the electrician to come! Next will be the living room. After I do these things he usually admits that you and I are right.

      I replaced the ceiling fan in our bedroom with a beautiful crystal and linen light fixture. We nearly died from the heat. It turned out that the temperature was impossible to balance in the house and our bedroom is on the hot end. A fan was the only answer, it works. The fans in the house balance the temperature.

A home inspector can do a test or you can buy a test yo make sure your ceilings don't have asbestos before you do any work. If they do you MUST (by law) have that taken out by professionals.
