Valentina, I love your channel and have incorporated some of your ideas. But, I’m a renter and can’t make a lot changes, I wish you would talk more about changes renters can incorporate.👍🏻
Same, living in an apartment there is only so much you can do without losing your deposit. Where I live I pretty much can't do anything, no paint, no removable wallpaper, no hanging pictures except with Command strips. 😮
I rent. But fortunately my landlord is cool with me updating things. The house was neglected for over 10 years. I just finished regrading the back yard. Now I’m putting in a pergola and a wooden walkway over stone. I found a bunch of tile in the basement to use back there. Score! A lot of times you CAN paint. You just have to paint it the original colors before you leave. I did a trick with colored paper and push pins to make a feature wall. There’s also different color bed sheets that you can cover a wall with, too. Colored lighting can change a white wall at night. Rugs and large carpet remnants are also great for a rentals. So, it really depends on where you live. If it’s not a management co. you can always ask your landlord if you can make changes. If you are willing to pay for it and it’s done in good taste and quality, the landlord won’t mind. You’re improving the value, after all!
I am going to paint our downstairs myself. And I will use satin paint you recommended for base boards. I hope that’s correct V. I want to thank you for all the energy and ideas you share. I really have been in a depression. I feel like I was guided to you. I’m 73 this month and retired. I got lost along the way somehow. I have always loved home decor. I had the most exciting career in fashion. Always busy. But I found myself feeling lost. I lost my best friend since I was in grade school. She was like my sister. Devastating. One brain fogged day I found your show V. Your presentation was so upbeat. Then I realized I had so many items you recommend on Amazon on my list. And I own several items in your home. I found you! I became energized and have purchased many of your suggestions and I love them all. Thank you for your sense of humor. Its a joy to watch your family with you. I have been through some bad health issues but that’s the past. I embrace each day with joy like I have my whole life. I needed to hear your laughter and to connect again. I am feeling so upbeat and back on track. You have done that for me. I’m very grateful I found you at this time in my life. Thank you Valentina. 🙏
Wow, I would hope she read your comments. If someone said that about me, I would be over the moon. I'm a designer and actually people/clients/friends have said similar things and it truly is worth more than anything to know you have made a difference in someone's life such as you mentioned. I am a few years older than you (you by the way are beautiful!), I too love fashion and beauty in all areas of life. I too have been thru and currently going thru some of the hardest challenges of my life but these videos and others like them help me to keep hope alive. Plus God has a way of restoring joy and giving strength when times are hard. You sound like someone I'd love to know!! Hope she eventually sees your comment but for sure know that it blessed me and I'm sure others! 👊😉!
That is so nice of you. Thank you so much. Maybe we should do something with all of our experience! I have a cousin in CA and she told me she worked 15 years for the same company and hated every minute! I was so shocked. I think we both had passion for our work and what we accomplished. I loved my job. When I was 20 I opened up a boutique in my home town. My mother was in real estate and found the most beautiful older home and we put a boutique in it. It was so much fun. And I had the greatest time with my mother. Before that I studied Couture in Paris and had amazing opportunities. You sound very energetic and happy and in a good place in your life. It’s like we have to keep being creative don’t you think? It’s how our brain works. So good for us! I have now found you. I do enjoy V’s energy and passion for home decor. And she has fun. That’s so important. It’s nice to find her. I need to pull back my home decor and simplify my life. I’m very global. And I want to back that up. I have fabulous things to sell. We have 2 storage rooms and too much in our home. It fascinates me. But I’m loving the cleaner lines and focus on organization. Our Schnauzer fell down paralyzed 4 months ago. And all our energy is getting her life back for her. I am very focused on her right now and I find I almost rest watching V. I want to keep in touch with you. Please tell me what you have done in your home. What you have purchased. How you like it. I am sure your home is fabulous. And it’s so great to hear about your career. And that you loved it!! Thank you for leaving me a message. I can tell you have a lot of energy and enjoy V as much as I do. Im really so happy to find you!
Oh my goodness, I just now saw and read your reply! Now I have a new "pen pal"! I don't have much time right now but I can't wait to "talk" in more depth, maybe later tonight. I too am in caregiver mode. My only sibling, my brother is in declining health and I have been caring for him 24/7 for over 3 years. It is very difficult but that's why hearing back from you gave me a lift. I have very limited outside connections right now and I am very much a communicator so we sound like kindred spirits in many ways. Yes Valentina is fun to watch. I am very enthusiastic myself and she even has me beat and that takes a lot, of coffee perhaps. I don't drink caffeine, it's not that I think it's a bad thing, it just makes me too jittery! Besides working as a designer/decorator for decades, I also worked in the music business for many years and am a songwriter. Plus I was a "stylist" before that really was a career, it was just something I loved and as I had friends who were artists, writers, people who attended big music galas, I would help them put together their "ensembles"! I loved vintage things as well as I love thrifting and can put together outfits for a pittance that looks like a million bucks. I got it from my parents and grandmothers all of whom had great style tho my folks weren't wealthy. My mom was a fabulous seamstress as was I. So much to say, but when you said about all the things you had in storage and at home, I gasped! That is me too! Down to the #of units! I used to have antique shops, booths, overflow from my design work and when this season of caregiving ends, I have my work cut out for me in selling as much as possible. I have had huge garage sales in the past with friends and we made a lot just in a 3 day sale. Anyway, I'll get back to you later. I don't have any social media presence, I'm old school in that regard but at some point maybe we can figure a way to connect without blowing our cover, so to speak! Thanks for your reply!! No time to proofread so excuse typos or those spellcheck switcheroos!!
I’m in the process of painting my stair railing black. It’s been such a painstaking process with me up until 3am many nights painting and sanding. I’m almost done and the results are stunning! So worth it! Painting is such an affordable and rewarding update that can be done yourself. Tip! NEVER EVER NEVER skimp on prepping whatever you’re painting! I tried to do my railing quick and just threw some pain on it. It was a disaster and started peeling immediately. I had to sand off all of that hard work, then sand some more to get the clear, shiny, surface removed. Just sand it. Then sand some more. Then use liquid sand. Anything to get that surface ready to accept paint. It’ll save you so much time in the end to do it the right way the first time.
Yeah dark surfaces show way more imperfections when they are painted. I.E imperfections in drywall, or plaster. Sometimes there isnt a whole lot you can do about it. because those imperfections can be nearly invisible -especially if the wall was white.
Agree with almost everything except two suggestions. If your hardwood floors are in good condition always opt to refinish. The sheer waste of raw materials in ripping out hardwood is so sad! Second, is sizing down the bed in order to fit nightstands purely for ascetics. We got rid of the nightstands and put in a wall shelf and wall lamps and kept our treasured CA king bed. Our bedroom is all about comfort first.💜
I recently came across Valentina and have been in awe with her decorating/designing skills. I am now hooked on getting ideas for my 35 year old home in Ontario, Canada 🇨🇦. Love you, Valentina and Jack!
I am obsessed with your channel! Finally someone who can explain to me my love of simple quiet design and how to bring it to life!! Your amazing! I never comment on anything but I had to here! I’m redoing a 100 year old home… it’s down to the studs! Your my teacher! I hope I do you proud!❤
Yes! Visual Comfort (Circa) and Hudson Valley or my go to lighting vendors. The correct lighting in various locations in a room really make a huge difference.
Yes! Mirrors not only reflect natural light, they also reflect lighting in basements and dark storage rooms. Frankly, I use them in my plants room because the window is too small to feed all my seasonal resting plants 😉
I love your style and enthusiasm! It is not in my budget to change all of my flooring or buy all new larger furniture. I would like some ideas for if you can’t buy all new every time you decorate
Looooove mirrors over the nightstands. I did it in our guest room a few years back and everyone who stays with us comments that they feels like bonus windows. ❤
When we moved into our apartment almost 4 years ago we ripped out all of the dated wallpaper and painted it, we had the place rewired and all the light switches and cover plates changed and we changed all of the door knobs. It made a big difference to the space. We have since renovated the kitchen, bathroom and the laundry room. We need to do my daughter's bedroom next. We also need to sand and refinish the floors in the 4 bedrooms. I also want to change the skirting boards to something more modern and substantial. I'm also on the hunt for new light fixtures for the dinning room and the guest bedroom. I loved all of the tips 😊👍
Thanks Valentina. My style is so much like yours and I pretty much agree with you on everything. I’ve been doing small upgrades ,painting a room at a time and changing out some things. I’ve got a display cabinet that has mirror backing and was wondering whether I should swap that out for a solid painted background but have been hesitating as I’ve seen those mirror display cabinets making a comeback. Would appreciate your point of view on that. Thanks again.
I love your videos and style. Thank you for the positivity you radiate. Would you please consider doing a video on trends in lighting fixtures specifically ceiling chandeliers? I need to upgrade mine and struggling with picking the style and how to mix and match the styles with those I already have in the house. Thank you.
Just came across you and have been binging! One thing I can't find is a video focusing on bedroom lighting. I have a large bedroom and I'm struggling to find pendant lights to hang over the night stands. I'll look for a bedroom decor video, but I'd love more about these fabulous opportunities to add style, personality, and function to a space. I think of lighting and hardware as the jewelry of a home. Living in Tucson, I forego chandeliers in favor of the ever practical ceiling fan, but that's only one layer of lighting. Please, help me with the rest!
Oh my gosh. We did a major renovation (6 months in the making). But in Dec 2019 I had painted my whole house from tan to grey. They kept asking “are we painting” I kept replying “no, I just painted” Then, I decided to paint….. creamy white that the decorator chose for me. No regrets!! It’s beautiful. I would have been so upset if I hadn’t taken that opportunity to remove the grey
Omg I am obsessed with these colors! And the names omg could not be better! My sheets are caramel apple my comforter is moonlight white my furniture is black Beauty and my walls need to be winds breath … not grey!!!! 🤍🤍🤍🖤🤎🤍🖤🤎🤍🖤🤎🤍I need a painter LOL …. good lord how amazing!!!!
Love these basics that are so easy to overlook, and will cause a lot of struggle and frustration. Thanks for laying these out as a basic foundation to updating our homes!
Agreeing with shutters as being a smart choice considering where I live-Phoenix AZ!! Need to block light which means also able to block heat. You might have heard that we were over 110 degrees for something like 40 days so far. My shutters were worth every penny.
Also have a light cement tone tile, but I have a 7’ long polished dark wood console table from pottery barn in a long narrow table in the entrance . Will it relate to the coastal look with pottery ,greenery, etc.
First. These are great tips. I have doors that need repainting as well as a bathroom. They're just staring at me calling, "Paint us." 😂 *sighhh I will knock them out in the next couple of weeks...🙏🏾
Hello from Singapore!!! Just want to say that I've been binged watching your videos for some tips and I'm so happy that we shared the same colour palette!!! Love!!! Your style and taste!!!
Trying to figure out how to use my task light in my living room! My living room is open so my sectional is not against a wall. Have to figure out how to plug in my task light without wires everywhere 😫😫
Do you always work with black & whit( very dramatic, luv, but I’m in a coastal home in Florida & want to design it as if I’m in a fine coastal hotel.Any ideas?
Something my family did was paint every few years. We didn't always change furniture but my gram was big on, well I don't like this anymore let's paint. In the living room she did change her couch and her chair out once a decade usually mid decade and she'd paint. She kept her coffee table and side tables usually, they were from Ethan Allen so they were quality pieces but her couch and chairs were nice but cheaper. The coffee table he did change in the late 90s when she changed the couch, I got her a side table and a behind the couch table that matched so she was very happy, it was lighter (think Frasier's wood) and the couch was very light compared to the dark pink we had before and she painted and wow it was sooo nice. She also changed the carpet as well, she had wood floors but in the living room she wanted carpet so it was just so refreshing in the living room. Anyway she also pained the kitchen and dining room and occasionally we'd repaint the bedrooms or bathroom, just depended on if we felt like it. She would say, we don't have money to change the whole house but I have $50 let's get some paint! I would just rearrange my furniture after painting and that made my room feel different as well. Small things make a huge difference often and pain it always one of them.
I am about ready to purchase the area rug that you have in your living room. I was wondering how it is for cleaning? The one I'm getting is on Amazon and it says that it's wool. I'm not very familiar with cleaning wool rugs.
I want to change my floors but I have to take out the tile and it’s gonna be very messy. Do you have any suggestions for something I could go over tile?
Are you gravitating toward dark dining room tables or more of the lighter woods / neutrals? I have a calif coastal style with a lot of white and “outdated grays !” and am getting a new dining room table, I like a very dark trestle table but am worried that I should be looking for a lighter wood tone in terms of what is trending for the future?
Very inspiring. We are looking at buying a 3 seaters leather sofa. We can’t decide on a yellow base tone called pebble or a white base tone called dove grey. Grey is not my choice but I am concerned about the yellow tone cream leather. Please advise. Thank you. We are in Australia. 👍 it is Luka leather sofa from Freedom furniture.
I’m going to repaint our downstairs. We had to do a renovation after a flood here. I want it white but not sure which one. We have a lot of light in our home. Does anyone have a favorite white? I agree with V paint doesn’t last too long. I don’t like a yellow shade. Any suggestions?
Great tips. I am currently painting my wood dining set in a black colour- i know painting wood. but it is making a huge difference. I am also looking at colours for my walls they are ready for a redo. Struggling a bit with it. I have decorators white as trim and do not want to change that. Thinking Stonington grey for the walls, soot as an accent wall in the entrance way, my home office is gentlemen's grey, bathrooms are coventry grey. Primary bedroom i am struggling with.
Plantation shuttles-you are right. They suck up the light in a house and are dust collectors. Very big in Florida. That is the first thing people get; the price is so expensive too.
I took the screens off all 4 of my sliding glass doors. Blocked my view. Looks way cleaner. I hate screens. This may only work in LA. Our flies can’t survive the smog. 😂
We were at a party once, and some of the kids are upstairs sitting on the top bunk, and it collapsed into the bottom bunk. Thank God, none of the kids were sitting on the bottom bunk.
I couldn't disagree more on light. Some is fine, but I don't find light relaxing...plus working in a very artificially bright workplace, I want to relax when I'm home. I've said this to a few people over the years but my idea of calm is not to have to wear sunglasses in my home! No way. Not too mention light shows every personal flaw! 😳 I should at least look good when I pass a mirror in my own home 😂 And speaking of mirrors, again, some are fine. But those covering entire walls or closet doors 🤢 just no - Just too Miami Vice for me. As much as I miss the 1980s, I don't so much miss the decor or fashion.
It’s so childish to get offended because someone has different interior style than you. Like what? There are very serious issues in the world and that’s what you’re spending your anger and outrage on? What a privileged life you must lead. Stop watching Valentina’s videos if you don’t like her style or opinions lol it’s not that serious. These are her OPINIONS, your house isn’t suddenly ugly just because someone doesn’t like it lol. Your house is for YOU not everyone else’s approval.
OMG, I cant tell you how much clients have taught me on removing shutters! Just because they where expensive doesn’t mean the are right. The definitely take away both the light and the ease of opening windows! I knew I liked you because I also don’t like bunk beds.

Valentina, I love your channel and have incorporated some of your ideas. But, I’m a renter and can’t make a lot changes, I wish you would talk more about changes renters can incorporate.👍🏻

You may need to find an alternative channel that focuses on apartment living. I follow both, as my daughter rents and has very similar needs to yours.
I also rent and some things are worth losing part of my deposit for 💩
I use a lot of suggestions in my apartment and the rest are stored for my future home

I freaking LOVE YOU, Grrrl!! 😂🤣💞
Thank you so much!
I love mirrors over night stands. I just did this in my bedroom. LOVE!

I have honestly been waiting for the next video to drop being that I’m about to decorate my empty home
Yay, I love this!
Buying two mirrors for the sides of my bed NOW! Just moved into a new place with tiniest master bedroom ever! :) YAY
Love your ideas and great advice. Where's Jack been. Miss seeing the two of you together. :-)
Yes to the power of paint! I’ve painted my entire main floor at least once, now wanting to lean into a greige color to update! Cheers V
Sounds great!
@ellegunning - I’ve been wanting to paint my kitchen floor. Do you have any paint or process tips?
LOVE it ALL .. Wonder if I could keep all those mirrors clean though lol .. Windows n mirrors ug ... LOL ;]
Valentina YOUR MARVELOUS !!!!

It depends where you live. Plantation shutters are a must in Arizona.
I love that you dive right in with the major game changer- paint.
So glad you addressed the shutters! I hate them-going to tear out the rest of them!
Light is money! Love that! 😊
Always Love Your Taste in Your Designs.
I just finished painting my living room whipped cream by Behr & took off my blinds & hung linen curtains. Looks so much bigger.
Thank you for putting me on Harry's I inlove with the Shave Cream so Lux
I agree with the mirrors. People rip out the mirrors all the time. The more mirrors the better. It opens the space up. Large mirrors are the best.
I just bought a new house and first thin6g done were paint, lighting, and flooring! Glad to see those high on the list 🎉
I love your style and enthusiasm! It is not in my budget to change all of my flooring or buy all new larger furniture. I would like some ideas for if you can’t buy all new every time you decorate
I just completed a project using Behr's "Midnight Hour" downstairs and "Black Locust" in the bedroom.
Thank you for your inspiration

You might feel differently about plantation shutters if you lived in south Florida.
I absolutely love your channel!
Hey V what happened to the 'Upgrade Everyday Items' section, you teased us with the title & then went into your advert! 😮 x
I really love your channel!!!

Oh my gosh, Jeremys is so much better! They are a little more affordable and the soaps smell so much better
Love these basics that are so easy to overlook, and will cause a lot of struggle and frustration. Thanks for laying these out as a basic foundation to updating our homes!
I agree with a lot of your advice (especially about repainting) but my feelings about mirrors and sunlight are about the same as Dracula's.
They're just staring at me calling, "Paint us." 😂 *sighhh
I will knock them out in the next couple of weeks...🙏🏾
Yeah!!!!
This was so good Valentina! You are in my head while decorating my spaces and shopping! Thanks for all of the great tips!
what would you do for small kids room without a bunkbed?
I like your ideas 🙂
I am a new follower of your channel. I super love it! Just in time while my house is being constructed. I am super inspired. Thank you ❤
Hello from Singapore!!! Just want to say that I've been binged watching your videos for some tips and I'm so happy that we shared the same colour palette!!! Love!!! Your style and taste!!!
Another informative video!!!
❤❤your hardwood floors. Can you please tell us what the brand, style and color?❤❤
I’ve been looking all
Over in store at mirrors , most are made of plastic frames and aren’t cheap but feel cheap
mirrors are like adding some bling.
Love this video
Thank you so much!
Agree, bunk beds are terrifying.
Trying to figure out how to use my task light in my living room! My living room is open so my sectional is not against a wall. Have to figure out how to plug in my task light without wires everywhere 😫😫
Which light is better for homes, white or yellow? Please answer
Warm White lighting looks better than "Daylight" or "Cool White"
Love your "greeky" coffee cup ;-)
Do you always work with black & whit( very dramatic, luv, but I’m in a coastal home in Florida & want to design it as if I’m in a fine coastal hotel.Any ideas?
Thank you so much for always keeping us inspired and updated really love your channel. ❤❤
Thank you so much!
Looking forward to your minimalist/Scandinavian fall winter decor although I’m definitely not ready for bitterly cold weather and snow yet 😭
Does anyone know where she got the map/subway art from?
I have painted my living yearly to every six months.... I cant pick a color lol
Love your ideas!
I’m in a pickle lol my floors are 70’s yellow squares lol what to do? paint them? lay down vinyl? Do jute? They drive me nuts!
WAIT, Harry's didn't send you a black razor!? OMG!🖤
Isn't there heated controversy using Harry's products and where the profits of particular sets go to?
Hello Val
Hello!
Ok. So we need a video on what we should do instead of plantation shutters. 😮
What flooring do you have and color? What do you suggest?!
Plantation shuttles-you are right. They suck up the light in a house and are dust collectors. Very big in Florida. That is the first thing people get; the price is so expensive too.
If only I were invisible so I could hang mirrors without having to catch glimpses of myself! 🤨
Please always, always have a clear separate link to your latest/current coffee mug/cup! Thanks.
About those family photos…. We’ll talk again when you have grandkids 😘😜
Mirrors over nightstands look weird to me. Put a large mirror over your dresser or a full length mirror on a blank wall instead of your nightstands.
Love you V… but no to Harry’s. Switched to Jeremy’s Razors a while ago 😊
You have a lot winter clothes today
Great tips! But I’d much rather support other sponsors than Harry’s! 🤢
Using mirrors is also a surprising way to add magic on an outside garden wall.
Is Harry's woke?
As Salam Valentina
You look like the spitting image of Brooklyn McKnight
Refinish wood. DO NOT rip out wood floors.
It is hard when ałl your advice assumes that money is no object. I wish you would make a low and hogh budget version and showed the cost difference.
I bought Harry's razors in the grocery store and its terrible!
I honestly love you but you talk and laugh so much and sometimes I would love for you to get to the point! Thank u!! Just a little less…. Rambling
That's pretty rude!
Thanks so much Valentina! I am just wondering what paint color is in your office? 🖤🤍 Thanks!!
OMG, I cant tell you how much clients have taught me on removing shutters! Just because they where expensive doesn’t mean the are right. The definitely take away both the light and the ease of opening windows! I knew I liked you because I also don’t like bunk beds.
An remember correctly I think its mine coal in her office.
I've just done my whole house with her colors. Beautiful❤
