    I have said this in your comments before, only been flying for nine months now and I got one of these about six months ago. I believe it was my fourth plane (had a UMX timber, t-28, leader 480 and a not built e Flite slick 3D (balsa ARF)). This 300 is what taught me how to really fly (trainer planes didn’t teach me anything except orientation help) and greatly sped up the process of learning. It’s extremely snappy, a little heavy for a 3D plane, but a great 3D trainer. I say that because I had 100% rates with about 50% exp, 70% rates with 35% expo and 50% rates with 20% expo (35%on elevator for landing control). A caution though, if you have to flip it into safe in low rates flip it over to full rates right after or you may not get it to turn back to you. When you turn the rates way down it tames the plane a lot. It flys extremely predictable at low rates and holds lines wonderfully. It will float in on landings and the only bad tendency I found it has is if you get to slow and flair to much it will plop on the runway like a brick without warning lol. Awesome plane and early intermediate flyers could fly it and slowly turn the rates up. I personally believe that as far as precision flying goes this is one of the best for $300 on the market. Because of this plane I now fly extreme flight, Pilot RC and Skywing planes . 74” slick, 60” extra, 60” edge, 78” extra 330 gasser. Several EDF jets as well, Rafale and an F18 80mm E Flite are the latest additions. Can’t wait for the 80mm F16 to get here.
    Anyone reading this keep in mind (not bragging, but I have picked this up quickly. 30 years in RC buggy racing and switched to planes 9 months ago), but I have a highly accomplished pattern plane flyer locally that has been helping me learn. So all of you that are new like me keep that in mind when reading this lol.
    As always, great video Brian.
    PS. My friend and I here are about to start up our own RUclips channel. Moto will be “Even a Chris can fly it” lol. I don’t like that name though… haha

    This is my favourite of your videos. I am amused, amazed, and educated, all at the same time.
    I understand what you meant about how the experts fly by intuition, unlike someone like me that needs to see which way the plane is pointing then decide what to do. Luckily someone invented safe technology.
    Beautiful plane, beyond my capabilities, but something to aspire towards.

    I have to say Megan is one of the best camera crew personal videoing on YT. Brian just start flying inverted more and in no time you will feel more comfortable doing 3D. I used to be scared flying inverted, now I fly all my planes inverted with ease. Just start simple flying in circles and figure 8's for most of a pack, and before you no it will feel easy. This is my favorite channel for RC reviews and all around good entertainment. 2nd would have to be the Petrincic Bros RC channel. Thanks and Good Luck.

    Set this thing up with flaperons and 150% rates. I've landed it bush style like that. Here in Raleigh, the flying field I'm usually flying from is a cratered grassy hellscape for taildraggers. You gotta come in super slow to avoid getting flipped by the longer grass.

    Brian, I just want you to know that these videos are enjoyable and informative. You are appreciated and needed for people like myself. Please don’t stop doing the radio setup portions, but do slow down there a bit. 😂 sometimes I rewind many times trying to figure out what you just said. BTW, I just purchased this plane from your link along with a Viper. I hope somehow you see that, & know that it’s from this student. ✌🏽

      Thanks L Man! We appreciate you buying from the links, it adds up and really help. As far as slowing down on Radio Setup, have you tried clicking the GEAR icon and playback speed to a lower speed? This might help ;) We already have near mutiny over how much we cover as it is, so we kinda gotta go fairly quick, but will go slower on some of the more beginner orientated plane, to help.

    I got a 2 hour flight experience from my Daughter a few years ago, got to fly a 330 Extra! What a blast! Got to do loops, rolls and some hi G pullouts from some aggressive dives! It really messed with my body. I didn’t feel rite for about 24 hours. The pilot told me the G’s really screwed me up. It also messes with the inner ear which can really effect the way you feel. I didn’t up chuck, which was great!

      I hear ya, I grew up on my family’s boats for over 25 years. Never sea sick ever!! Mom And Dad would put me in the bow of our ski boat as a baby and the minute that Mercury outboard started I was out like a light! LOL, my Brothers and sister would ski like crazy and I sleepy in the bow the whole time. Dad sold the ski boat but returned to the sea (so to speak) when I was 9. We took the US Power Squadron course one winter, it was a cool father/son thing we did one winter. I learned to plot courses navigate by the stars! Very cool, however with today’s GPS that’s old technology I’ll never remember! Ho well it was fun and I was his 1st mate. Could back his 42 ft Christ Craft into its dock space without even touching a pole sometimes! I miss those days.

    Brian I have been scouring the web looking for an answer. I should have just came here and asked you. What bigger size battery will fit in the extra 300. I am trying to upgrade to 4s 4000 30c or 4s 5000 ,but Idk if they will fit before I buy. Also the cg is always off when I flip it upside down to check cg. I have 3s 2200 and 3s 3200 smart packs .I watched your 1st video and maybe I’m doing it wrong but can you help clarify battery and cg. Also I have a hard case 3s 5000 50c reaction pack for my race buggy would this even work I put the battery in and it does fit ?? If you could do a 3rd video this would be awesome. “Battery upgrades and CG explanations “ as the title,Your viewers would appreciate and give lots of thumbs up I bet !!!

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  3 года назад

      I would be amazed if anything close to that size would fit. Most 3D planes fly a bit tail heavy, so you probably want to keep the battery fairly small too, so it's light on it's feet.
      Mark the CG at the recommended points (in the manual / video) then put your battery in... now balance the plane, or attempt to balance the plane on the marks, and each spot between the marks. When you're done flying...note if you liked the way it flew, or if you didn't. It's a highly subjective thing, especially on a 3D plane. YOU have to make the call where you want it. Some people will need it to be fairly nose heavy so the plane is pretty stable in "sport" flying (just putting around and doing some light aerobatics) while 3D pilots will want the plane to fly totally different, with a fairly tail heavy setup...this means the CG marks will stay where it is on the wing, but you'll be moving the point where the plane balances forward of those marks.
      CG is a basic of flight, but when you're doing 3D it's all goofy...you WANT the plane to fly kinda weird to help with some hammerhead style maneuvers...but this makes the elevator super-duper touchy...so you need to be extra skilled or use a ton of expo to help reduce porpoising of the plane.

Same size class as the FW-190 and the only one out there that isn't too big and too expensive for us smaller budget enthusiasts. It looks gorgeous on the Bitgohobby website, and sounds like it's a really good flyer. It would be a great build/review.

    I just joined my local fields within a 3 min and 6min of my house but they are both grass fields. I been eyeing up this and the ultimate biplane. But the rear wheels on those models look like they will be problematic with the grass take offs. Is that something to worry about. If so I’ll wait on those and get the crescendo. The fields are long but also longer grass every time I been so far

I want a B25 and did not find a review of one on your channel so don’t have a link to purchase one that would attribute back to you. So, do you have a link to a B25 that you like, or a long to Banana or one of the other suppliers that I can use to contribute to the construction of your runway? Don’t you just year to own the airplane that the Doolittle raiders used to put the hurt Imperial Japan? When you watch Pearl Harbor (yeah, I know its dramatized), doesn’t that make you want to mark out a scale carrier on your driveway and see if you can make it happen??? Oh yeah, you know you do. So help me out. Which B25 do you suggest. And I’ll be settling it up with a Spektrum receiver so I can get all the NX8 power into it.

    He man you have helped me so much in my start with rc. I was wondering if you could help me out with this cuestión?. I’m from a small town in PA in the Northampton aria. There is like one club out here I think. But my question is I’m in college and I herd you need to pay a membership to fly at a flying field. Can you fly in one with out paying or like a day pass? Or should I not worry about it and just fly even edfs when I get to them in my local baseball field?

      Nick I am I have learned from a ton Brian’s videos. I live in Western PA west of Pittsburgh and all I can say is look and meet people from the flying fields Out this way you can fly at a club three or four times as a guest then you can decide if you want to join or not.

      Nick - sounds like Rob might have given you some advice ;)
      My thing was to fly small planes at large, open spaces. It's kinda questionable. If you can get permission, or get away with it, you just need to make sure you're doing your best to follow the "Know before you fly" rules, or can get by without having issues... some areas are WAY worse than others. I used to fly in my neighborhood, but I was on our board of directors in the HOA, and we knew almost EVERYONE. It was a thing, and we were the second people on our street and the longest tenured home owners on the block, so people just kinda let us do out thing. Some were less favorable to the idea, but the rest hushed them since we had good relationships with them. We also flew out planes across the main road, about 5 minute drive to a community college with a large parking lot. Later another parking lot that was close by got adapted by an AMA flying site. This is a big challenge for a new RC pilot.
      Here's my take...
      If you can keep it below 250grams, (like some UMX planes from Horizon Hobby) then you technically are below the weight threshold for the FAA "Drone Registry" so you can fly wherever you want, essentially....but don't piss off the neighbors, since they're too dumb to know the rules.
      Find an AMA field if you want to pick up on tip and tricks from the locals, but buyer be ware, it's not always a warm place to be...you will find some of the best and worst of the hobby at these fields. You have to get in there and find someone who will work with you...if you don't, or they're all A-holes - leave and never come back, it will ruin the hobby for you. You gotta make sure they're going to treat you like they should - a future flyer, not a pia.
      I will help you, as I've done for hundreds or thousands of people like you, but I can only do so much thousands of miles away from you.
      Keep interested, and start thinking about your first plane. I can help you with that too.
      Good luck!

      @@BrianPhillipsRC thank you so much man it means a lot that you would take the time to right this out for me 💪🏽❤️. What’s amazing is that having a casual convo with one of my favorite Professors at college we I found out that he is an rc hobbyists as well and he told me to call him when I wanted to go out to the field, so he can introduce me to some of his friends. And he said they have a lot of diversity from kids to people of different nationalities, witch makes me feel a lot more at ease because i mite not feel left out. He told me Tuesday’s or training days so you will find people with there high wing tundras. And get this it’s 25$ for a year worth of training every Tuesday!!!! And 50 per month to be a member with is a little high because you also need your insurance from the Association which is another 50. So I don’t know if becoming a member is viable at the moment that’s a fat 100 every month but at least there’s a place to go it’s pretty close. I didn’t even know but it was hidden in plane site just down the road from a local hobby shop called Trains and Liens.

      3D planes suck power if you let them? Not sure why your battery only lasted that long. We've had real good luck with the SMART packs, but since they're sometimes 2X the price of other options, a lot of people won't even try one out...but I can tell you that unless you're using them in "Battery Eaters" (Planes that kill batteries, like the Eflite F-18 80mm, for example) they will outlast most packs and give great flight times, and then you can neglect them and never discharge a single pack, EVER ;) My type of battery!

    Hey Brian do you think a ix20 would make a good first transmitter

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  3 года назад

      If money is no object, this would be an AMAZING choice, but if you're like most other RC enthusiast you could probably get an NX8 and do 99% of what you'll need from a transmitter over the next 5-10 years (if working within the DSMX protocol AKA Horizon Hobby gear and there are some off brand / knock off stuff in the DSM2/DSMX protocol)
      I want you to be satisfied, but I'm not gonna try to trick you into getting a $2000 transmitter - even though I think you'd be the envy of most RC clubs...it's just not that common. What if you buy this ix20 and then get your first plane and hate doing it, and quit? That would be crappy! My alternative recommendation would be to use your money slightly different, and consider buying a RTF (Ready to fly...comes with everything you need to get flying), then after you've established the strength of your desire to continue (Of course I think you'll be on track to insane addiction levels, like me....but some people don't' take to this hobby as feverishly as I have)....Then, you might decide to get another different RTF plane, or get a proper transmitter, like the NX8, a nice quality charger, and a few more batteries (they're pretty expensive...but good batteries will last, and they are safer), then a BNF plane...and you're STILL under the cost of the iX20 ;) My point is, I'm here to help you make the BEST choices, if you're interested in the help.
      What's in it for me? I get a small commission from what you buy if you follow our links, and of course, we'll get some add revenue from your watching our videos. So, I could talk you into buying a super expensive, and AWESOME iX20, that you absolutely don't need, and would be totally overwhelmed by (even if money is no object), or I could help turn you into a loyal audience member, and guide you along like so many others have done. I choose the later. I'd rather have your ear when you're ready to move from here to there, and as you have questions that come up. I'm basically your hobby shop...and I DO make some money off your decisions, but it's minuscule for the time I'll spend - I want to grow the hobby for so much more than a few bucks here and there...but want to be honest with you so you can gauge where I'm coming from.
      iX20 bit.ly/38XUA1I (this is crazy, but it's AWESOME....you don't need it, but if you want it, I'll be jealous of you)
      iX12 bit.ly/3h8yQmF (amazing, but still WAY overkill for a beginner)
      NX8 (this will do everything you want to do with Horizon products in the next 5-10 years) bit.ly/2PHllSs
      NX6 (actually 7 channels and will do 90-95% of what you'll want to do in the next 3-5 years) bit.ly/3eqEn7M
      There's also an NX10, but I'd SKIP that step and go up to iX12 if you're getting to that level of Transmitter.
      Here's a short list of beginner planes that will help you get from where you are to where you want to be.

      @BrianPhillipsRC  3 года назад

      Okay, that's a great entry level, what I would consider to be "toy grade" airplane, but this thing will still help you learn to fly. If I were you I'd either consider another "toy grade" just to mix things up with another relatively inexpensive plane, or go ahead and make the transition over toward hobby grade choices. They're more expensive, but they're a lot better flying, and you'll really start to get the hang of flying a plane the way more future planes will fly.
      Forgive my template reply, but it's hard to type this out more than once ;) See below and you'll see where I'm going with it. The "Way Better" list is where you want to be looking, but if your budget precludes you, the "Cheap" will get you by for a while...
      Here's two sets of options, Cheap (Above) and WAY Better (Below)...
      Cheap... (purchase links - I also have videos too, but you can just search my channel with the name and it'll come up)

      With the "WAY Better", you'll be in it for more cash, but you're going to have a higher probability of success, which means you may WASTE less cash overall. When you're new, you want the BEST, which sounds kinda weird, but it's TOTALLY 100% right on - let me know in a year, if I was right ;) I only know from personal experience, and hundreds, if not thousands, of people's feedback. The "Cheap" options, are FUN and really cool too, but you'll LEARN to fly better with the "Loads Better" options.
      P.S. We'll be here to help you how we can ;) Good luck!!!

    Cool, I am so glad you did a dedicated video to doing 3D aerobatics with the extra!!! Nice dude. I had a 4s 2200 50c pack and I ran it for almost 10 min because I was inverted the whole flight with very little power!!!

    Out of all my helis jets and other planes, and under 2 yrs of flying, this is still my most intimidating plane. Very touchy super fast response. No this would make a terrible first plane. You are correct! Even rates at 70% it’s a handle full. Good stuff man good flying too.

    I flew my friends and found it to be a better sport plane than 3D. I also agree it’s a challenging plane because it doesn’t telegraph stall as much as other planes this size

    Brian this is not a 3D plane. They shouldn’t call it 3D. This is a very good big air model. But hovering and high alpha are terrible on it. Now if you want a real 3D machine there are many out there. I love my Xtreme Flight Edges. You would be able to hover it in one spot inches off the ground as long as you like. I think you are ready to step up to some real 3D models.

      Interesting. This is the first I'm hearing of it. Now you have me intrigued. I just assume I'm the problem with this plane...but you're saying it isn't???

      @@BrianPhillipsRC What he is saying is that the model you have is not very toned for good 3d flying i have flown most E-flight foam 3d planes and IMO they are pretty lousy at 3d i would call them sport planes at most. the Extreme Flight line of ARFs that he mentioned are much better at actual 3d flying and especially XA maneuvers. and for good reason 3d is all they do. There not a company that mass produces products such as horizon hobby. So they actually take the time to make shure there stuff flies right. And in my experience, the quality control and actual manufacturing qualities are superb and they fly absolutely amazing. If i were to recommend an airframe in the 48 or 52" range an extra, edge or the 52 slick 580 are great. However the airframes and recommended electronics are going to cost more. But the saying, you get what you pay for, definitely applies here hope this helps.

      You can do it! Takes practice, and when you're a few mistakes high with SAFE, there's so much less risk...but even with SAFE, you gotta make sure you don't end up throwing the motor in Reverse, and freaking out to get to all the switches when and if you have an issue...SAFE won't fix that, so might want to think about making the motor only go forward when in SAFE - just a tip. I need to set this up too.
