The hype on these has been so real. This ultimately may be your highest viewed vid yet. Great work! Question: Do you have a best-in-class recommendation for a copper after market cable? This price point is kind of my sweet spot for audio. ThieAudio Excalibur, Campfire Mammoth, Dan Clark Aeon Open X. Great to view your depth in these super-hyped same-tier set. Thank you!
Honestly, at this pricepoint I prefer the campfire Holocene. You should give that a go too. I found them more musical compared to the variation while having a similar level of details
You have mentioned the mammoth. I'd only recommend that if you are looking for a bass head iem. It has quite a lot of bass but to me the holocene is more well rounded. Go with the Variations if you are looking for kick ass details haha
@@SuperChonk thank you! The items I mentioned are ones I already own, the mammoth being my 100% favorite. They’re literally in my ears right now out-performing everything else I have (to my preferences, of course). I *definitely* wouldn’t call them bass-heavy, more “presence heavy”. Edit: I feel this response was clumsy while you were being helpful. I’ll say that I have some “bassy” earphones (Bose Sport-actually love them, use them when doing outdoorsy things), and find the Mammoth are full-spectrum present heavy, rather than the bass heavy Bose. Anyway, your content is fantastic, thank you!
You want a good copper cable.... IMR 2021 OFC 0.78mm 2 pin cable...... It will set you back $120.00 bucks but man you can tell 100% difference in sound and punch !
Great review..and I found the “barber”headphone test years ago ..and it’s very interesting. Now, flagship for those who aren’t going above the $5-6 Hundred dollar US range ..I think so. I was looking at the KATO or the Timeless 7 as maybe my endpoint… But the KATO has the traditional one driver signature of Moondrop..very clean . The 7HZ is a different animal with it being a planar and very well received by other reviewers ,CRINICLE for example.. But this Moondrop Variation is intriguing to me . A multi driver from a company that knows how to tune their products. Thanks for the video and btw, your English is great ..I’d loose the subtitles and go with wrap up points. Thanks 🍻
I need to give the 7HZ a listen. My previous experience with planars in iems were not too pleasant. I do not think that number of drivers or type of drivers should be an indication of performance because plenty of times how one choose to tune the earphones also play a big part :)
Man I am using my Variations with a Thieaudio EST balanced cable and a HIDIZS S9 Pro and man they sound magical on cell phone or Laptop....... These IEM's are worth every cent !!!!!
@@SuperChonk I spoke to a sales guy from Moondrop and he told me The Variations has the smallest profit margin for Moondrop......He told me the parts and labor on the Variations is over $400.00 US dollars !
is the BTR5 (for portable) enough to bring the Variations to full potential? I have Topping Dx7 Pro for desktop. What about just plugging it in my Samsun S10E 3.5mm jack?
I find the cable to match the Variations well and is a well thought out product. The Variations are neutral and can benefit from a bit of warmth as such the copper cables make a great addition.
Normally to get the best experience on any IEM, using the stock cable is the best choice because it was tuned with it in mind I would only change it if it broke or if it doesn't have a balance output. Nowadays most DACs have the higher performance on this end. DACs and Amps are really dumb if the IEM has low resistance or if your internal DAC is good enough, like in an iPhone or Mac. I bought mine for my Huawei because the internal DAC sucks hard. The Moondrop Variations is an awesome IEM but the rest on this video are just random claims lol
I’m time 🧭 traveling 🧳on RUclips 😋 I’m glad to report I just ordered the Variations …this will be be my endgame in my IEM’s stable. Since in time we last had communication The S12’s have made an impression on me and have the current top dog status in my IEM’s stable. Hopefully the Variations will be a great way to end up . Great review as always 👍

btr5 should be good for it. no need to splurge on anything more expensive. i use my moondrops with my s10. sounds ok. better to use dac/amp like btr5
what earplugs you use in this variation

from Singapore?
Yup born and bred.

Alternatively check out the Questyle M15 as well:)
Will you review the Campfire Audio Satsuma ?
Unfortunately no not for Satsuma but it should be inline with previous 1 BA campfire offerings :)
@@SuperChonk but do you think its worth getting ? Despite of the chifi offerings for the same price ?
@@ANOLE_VX I think that there are better options out there.

can this be upgrade to moondrop aria?
This is an upgrade to the Arias but the sound DNA is quite different. Arias are warmer. While the Variations is very detailed and more serious.
pls review cayin N8ii
I will be at Canjam sg this weekend. If it is there I’ll give my short impressions :)

Cables change sound a lot. Balanced cables make sound much better. I don't trust any reviewer who's not using them all the time.
