This video gives you what you need to get the cowl replacement done. I did it yesterday, and it took longer than expected because the cones would not go back over the wiper driveshaft without a little filing first -- they wiggled off OK, as shown in the video, and I was startled to find they wouldn't press back into place after the new cowl was clipped in. Examination showed burrs on the inside of the soft metal cones. I had a fine file on hand, but without it I'd have been stuck. My advice, watch the video, collect the tools and add a 1/4" flat sided file to your kit just in case. If it's not clear to you, the seated plastic rivet receivers need to be popped out assuming the cowl you buy has the clips already installed as mine did. Pulling the cowl pulls the rivet pins but leaves the receivers in place -- you need to pop them out and be down to metal only in the seven clip points. You don't need to worry about wrecking the receivers as you're replacing them. More caution is required when removing the plastic retaining washer that you find after pulling the wiper arm -- the delicate plastic retainer is open and can be removed from the shaft by further opening it, but it is fragile and not part of the cowl kit. Caution required, be sure to remove carefully & watch it doesn't pop off and vanish into the engine compartment. I watched a couple of videos, this one was the most useful and the only one I came back to when doing the job.
Freaking sweet. I just bought a 2001 325ci and it desperately needs a new windshield cowl. If you look at it the wrong way, it breaks. I'll be ordering one of these and doing this myself!
My wiper arms would not come off by shaking the arm nor by tapping with a screw driver and mallet as recommended elsewhere. Had to delay the job until I got a decent wiper arm puller. These are not expensive and hassle free and it worked great. Also, the wiper position is 24 mm from the tip to the cowl seal for the right (passenger side) wiper and 44 mm for the left (drivers side) wiper. Cleaning out the dirt after removing the old cowl was the biggest part of the job. While at cleaning, you may as well remove the flexible shields just below the ends of the windshield and get the dirt out from under there as well.
Thank you ! Super easy. It took me about an hour only because I didn’t have the tool to take out the clips and realigning it was a pain. But over all great video 👍
Thank you very much for the tutorial on the cowl removal. Your instruction was very helpful and a confidence booster. Now I'm going to change out my piston rings....NOT. THANKS!!!
i just trimmed off the broken part and slipped on a piece of rubber weatherstripping for 36 bucks. saved 64+ bucks and it will probably last longer than that cheap factory garbage piece. If you've eve shipped long fragile plastic or chrome pieces, you will understand why that box is big. The apes in the post office smash shit for sport
Yes! Absolutely. That’s why I’ll be changing it soon. The air filter located right under, gets wet after a car wash and eventually moldy. Turn on the ac and you’ll be breathing in that crap! Change it right away Id say
Struggled to get the passenger side wiper off. Despite his warning about breaking the windshield, there’s now a crack in my windshield coming up about 5 inches. Didn’t think I used the pry bar that hard at all but... so be very careful and don’t pry at all on the windshield. Ugh.
My wipers did not get easily but worked is hitting gently on the wiper around the cone but not the cone itself. The hitting pushes the wiper down and separates it from the cone. Then the cone slides up easily.

Nice video! You hit a lot of things that the "big" e46 RUclipsrs leave out.
An honest Thank You! I did not even know that’s the way they call it.... and for sure not many vids about this out there. Cheers!
when you have open the box,it's looks like some kind of magic show.

Thank you! I followed your instructions and easily replaced the cowl in my BMW 330ci.
That’s what I’m bout to do! What year & color??

Great video, very helpful! Mine came from Turner in the same obnoxious box, LOL

Haha I did the same thing! But my black weather stripping was free from someone's garage.😂
Hi - my lower windshileld cowl trim is already crapped powdery if you pinch it … will this cause water leak inside during rain pr car wash?

Whats the torque NM to tighten the wiper arms back?

That's ECS for you.
Where do you buy
7:42 ..... Loooool! New car!
Awesome video. Thanks a lot for sharing
Where did you buy this?
Well done keep up the good work
Thank you!thats helpful
the problem with ECS Tunning is that they are more expensive than ECP Euro and DON'T offer a LIFETIME WARRANTY on EVERYTHING like ECP Euro does!
Good to know 👍 I think I paid like $70 for the cowl from ECS, but it was on sale.
Pretty sure you mean FCP Euro...unless there's something on the dark web I should know about :)
Nice video
Ya.. just got mine in the mail.. why the f is the box so big and full of bubble wrap!! I mean wow.
Could’ve just repaired using a weather strip instead of paying all that money for a replacement
I'm thinking, not even removing windshield wipes with just strip...

Rather replace it than having a ugly faded brittle windshield cowl that, if you just add a strip that clearly means you care nothing for your car lol.
