I just removed all the black goo from the trim on the console and buffed it with Clean Green, which gave it a beautiful matte finish, no respraying or paint was needed. 👍
@@JohnFaire I litetslly used my fingernails to scrape the black goo off and buffed it to a matte funish with a microfibre cloth and Wynns Clean Green. does it look like shit though? i have a tan interior pieces and underneath it looks real faded and discolored. i want to paint but dont painting the cupholders seems like a bad idea to me. i wonder what kind of paint would work best for this.
I used a razor blade at a shallow angle to scrape all the rubber off, then 220 grit sandpaper to prep. I used normal spray paint, but it doesn't look all too good when it's dry. I'll likely go with plastidip
If you still need help, use "foliatec interior color spray" the black one looks very good, almost like the original tone but not rubbery and is not very scratch resistant. But you need to apply like 6 to 8 coats.... But it was worth the work!
Does it become tacky (slightly sticky to the touch) after you paint it? That's my biggest concern even though it looks great! Just curious before I do the tear down and buy the paint for my M3.
As long as you use quality paint, and let it cure for a full day in heat it won’t be tacky at all. Make sure to use a thick clear coat so the paint doesn’t scratch right off
Cały czas myślałem, że to znowu jakieś wideo z zagranicy, a tu proszę "lakier bezbarwny" :) proszę daj znać gdzie kupiłeś tą maszynkę do ścierania oraz farby. Masz może linki do aukcji? Dzięki!

To Much work.... My wife watched another video and got all the trim out of her E46 M3 and sprayed it with EASY OFF BAM oven cleaner, left it for 10-15mins and scrubbed it off with the kitchen scrub brush..... It came off in sheets and was all done in 5 mins...... No sanding, No sraping etc, etc.......Washed with warm soapy water and ready for painting.........
Příště zkus přímo plastidip .. ten má stejnou strukturu gumového povrchu jako originální díly BMW .. Tam ten rozdíl nejde vidět absolutně vůbec proti originálu. :)
Sandpaper takes awfully long. I recommend either scraping this shit texture off or using alcohol / acetone and rubbing like crazy. Still a ton of work tho.
did you clear coat them? im probably going to do this. but cant find a match for the tan interior i might change the color and get a oem black cupholder since painting them might be a pain with the retention flaps. fuck, bmw really had some stupid ass ideas didnt they. never seen a car interior with a rubber coating on it that turns to shit in 10 years. even gm has better interiors imo
Bro I did the same thing, the issue is the paint doesn’t stay on the plastic well, simple scratches and it comes off :( I went ahead and bought everything brand new, my advise don’t waste time and invest in buying oem new ones
@@Heno057 i actually removed the console and sprayed it with tuff stuff and scrubbed the rubber coating off. it turned out pretty good, looks a lot newer. eventually want to get a new one without the armrest though
To the author - Please write materials used in the description. Thanks
I’ve done this to all my e46’s great way to make your interior look fresh as hell ! And cheap no need to spend money on new parts 💯
That old matte texture goo comes off with alcohol and elbow grease. Thanks for sharing the tear down - I will be pulling mine for the same job....
alcohol?
@@emanueladamache7034 99% isopropyl alcohol. And, it takes awhile. Sanding with a 3M gray scuff pad soaked in this alcohol works 5x faster

Go to 2:50 if you obviously realize you have to take the parts out of the car to work on them first.
Makes the whole car look brand new!
if there are chrome pices which should not be painted put lipstick or balsam over them so the paint wont stick then you can scrap the lipstick off
Nice
you can remove that soft coat of rubber with ipa or ethil alcohol instead of painting

Why dont ppl use plasti dip? gives the original rubberery feeling.

Anyone wanted to fix interior pieces, use hot water with detergent and then scrub with a toothbrush and towel. Take my advice.
And how does that fix paint damage?
@@matthewnicholas6365 it takes the paint completely off. The plastic underneath will look better by itself. Or you can repaint it if you'd like.
