the yellow tab folds out, because you're supposed to apply the moulding, then pull the plastic out while the moulding is already in place.
Nathan you really helped me a lot with this DIY. I was about to spend $1000 on an OEM windshield for my 2003 E39 ///M5. The rubber trim dried out from the California sun and everyone else said I would need a new windshield plus the trim plus install labor. I didn't want to replace it because the older windshields have the BMW stamp on the corner whereas the new OEM ones are stamped with the manufacturers name. Everyone reading and watching this video, Nathan helps !!!
No problem I am glad it helped you
I have to do this, this helps ! I got quoted $160.00 at a local small hooptie shop... people like you is what makes YT.
My hooptie needs a hooptie shop
I was just quoted 299.00
You should’ve waited to pull the strip off, also if you slide the edges in first it’ll seat better at the ends. Different method same results.
Where did you get the weather strip/what is the part name or number?
great video maintain 2 bmw's and both of them need this iv hears so many people say you have to remove windsheild. great videos your channel has helped me on a monthly basis
Joelandrew Rugg thank you and I have to hand it to you guys watching the videos , on average this channel gets 500k + views a month , it would not be possible to keep going without you guys watching daily, thank you again
holly shit, BMW quoted me $469 to do this job! Thanks.
Broke my windshield with this video thanks
😂 damn bro
yeah he sould have masked it up and used needle plyers.
how did you do that?
Same
Yup same
Watch the video from FCP Euro. This video here showed me it can be don DYI, but the FCP Euro one shows you how. Also, have a look at the comments of that video for some further advice. Would have spared me from a lot of sweat and a dent on my beamer…
Wow didn't know how easy that was, thanks for sharing!
oh dude no. youre supposed to peel the double sided tape tab AFTER getting it in place. that's why the yellow part folds out on the double sided tape.
you made the comment i was about to... this is the proper way to do it...
HOW DO YOU PEEL THE TAPE AFTER IS SNAP OM?
@@bluedemond5332 it slides out the bottom.
What difference does it make? Does it just make install easier or does it not seal correctly if you remove it before install?
@@alloutofdonuts3998 Both lol Easier and Better seal . i just done mine after it was placed in and peeled away and good results
I just did this on my 06’ X3. Thx.
Seems pretty easy, wondering if it’s the same for my 06 (530xi) wagon?
Should be. I’m doing it on an 08 528i wagon, and e91 models should be pretty universal
Awesome! how about the rest of the window? Bottom trim also tends to crack.
*CAUTION* The upper weather strip being replaced in this video seems like a good idea for aesthetics. But the strip is typically sealed in under the windshield and can lead to cracking or chipping of the windshield. Also take into account if the car you are working on has been exposed to sun for years and years. There is a good chance that issues will arise! Be careful and consult a professional before trying to DIY this project. It will save you the headache of driving around with a crack in your windshield or shelling out an unexpected 400-500 plus dollars for a new windshield.
Where i can buy this part? Here in nederland they say i need to remove my front window to put a new 1 but if you can tell me where to buy this 1
Hi great video, just wondering if the windscreen was being replaced would the trim be supplied as part of the replacement by the fitter?
Wow! Looks so much better!
Very helpful indeed! Thanks alot! Regards from Germany!
Perfect on one side, problems on the other.... it was full of black, goopy glue which I didn't realise was there and jammed up the whole fitting. I've ordered another strip 😬😜
Cracked my windshield on both ends trying this be very careful folks to using pliers to pull out one end first. Then the rest should be easier since its loose. Putting it in is also a pain in the ass
hello nathan, when it comes up can you do similar repair for e46? on my own 330ci, this is deteriorating. would like some instruction before i jump in.
How to do the same on e91. With bars near the trim?
How come everyone breaking there windscreen I don’t get how it’s breaking just by pulling a rubber strip out
Technically its supposed to be done on the windscreen when its off the car
If you use a rubber Mallett put a thick towel over it
is this cosmetic or does it also keep weather out?
Thank you
HELP HELP. OK 2000 PONTIAC GRAND AM GT SEDAN. 3 GLASS PLACES despite me telling them I would pay there asking price and even more then it would require to do it this way. They all said need to take out glass. Last one said it would turn out WAVY and or BUMPY. They said the 2 face sticky tape would not completely keep it straight flat unbumpy unwavy. They said I may not or would not get the C-channel part to sit up against window evenly. Now my factory piece 2 things must be a softer rubber then the BMW's because mine won't get crackly crumbly like those. On mine the shine on the rubber dulled out in areas. Also my factory piece and factory replacement doesn't come with 2 sided sticky tape. But that's factory. So I figure. Mine might be tougher to take off because it did / does not go as crumbly as BMW, next when off look for any gaps under glass where old sealant got pulled out from that would allow water in. Seal those spots up. Next text fit C-channel side of molding into glass edge to see if it goes in all the way and lays flat / evenly across window. Next put some sealant just under the C SHAPED part of the channel. Because there is no sealant from factory install on the back side of the C -CHANNEL. ALSO in my case the part of molding against roof just lays there and seems pretty tight. Might be because of the haft moon or curve of the outer side of the molding or the makeup of the rubber molding compound. PLEASE EVERYONE BE DETAIL WITH ME IN EVERY STEP AND THOUGHT I MADE.
My trim just came in 20 min ago
nice
WRONG WAY !!!!! first fitting in correct position and after REMOVE the red tape (with glue surface )
Don’t peel the seal tape until you get the c channel seated folks
Where can i buy it?
Thank you saved me $240
Where did you get the new rubber?
Where do you get the rubber trim Moulding from
Google it. Do proper research and compare part numbers. Would take less time than it took to watch this video. I found mine in about 5min
I followed all steps and I broke my windshield, thanks dude!!!!!!!!!!!
eric tong 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
Same I’m ducking pissed it’s a small run on the top right but it annoys tf out of me
At what step did you break your windshield? Would it have helped to heat the old seal while removing it? My seal on my E38 is toast.
🤣🤣🤣
Has anyone just removed and not replaced? Any issues?
I am right there: removed it, but the new one won‘t click in. Tried even with brute force leaving a small dent at the corner of the roof. Any suggestions?
Phenolic scrapers would be better
Looks better without the rubber
Can you leave it without?
Wher e do I get the part
Are you still looking for parts on this car? I can provide you with quality accessories.
You skipped many critical steps to address when you fast forward, very much a misrepresentation of the work necessary to be done!
It's 50$ now wtf lol
