I am Indian presently living in Singapore. My hometown is Kolkata where this heinous crime happened. I grew up at North-east India, and Before coming to Singapore I was living at Gurugram (National capital region of Delhi) for more than 11 years. This crime against women is a deep rooted problem and it's roots are laid down every day every time at the grassroot levels. Even at schools by the teachers and the education system. I will explain an incident that happened with my daughter to clarify what I mean to say. In Indian schools when girls are in class 5 at the age of 10, a special class is conducted for them explaining about puberty, physical hormonal changes menstruation and all. But after the class they are strictly asked to keep it a hush-hush from the boys because boys are too young to listen about this !! If they are openly discussing things with the girls then why keep it a hush-hush from the boys? Is that called gender equality? In that class girls are also asked to raise their hands if their menstruation has already started. My elder daughter had early puberty at age 10 and when that class was conducted her menstruation cycle had already started. So she raised her hand when asked. But after the class some 10years old girls told some 10years old boys about that special class and about my daughter. Those boys told there parents about it and the next day older siblings of those boys came to my daughter's class and complained about this to her class teacher and her class teacher called her and bitterly scolded her. Her only fault was she was the one whose periods had already started. Out of shame or guilt she didn't mention anything about that to me. I came to know about all these only during the next ptm when her class-teachers started complaining about her and that incident. But I was utterly clueless and things became clear to me only when we came home and she told what actually happened. When I heard both side of the story and understood what actually happened. We can hold our poop and pee also for some time but can we hold back our menstruation? It is a natural phenomenon then why a 10years old child is shamed at school by her teacher, by some other parents because of her early puberty? I feel pity to the Indian nationals who were decent enough to treat women as part of the society. But, hearing news again about Rape victims in India This has been a stereotype for Indian people, and for sure there are millions of isolated cases all over India. God have mercy on them.
I watched an episode of "The Amazing Race" years ago when contestants had to ride on a public bus. A team of two women rode on the bus and one was groped and assaulted on that short bus ride. I knew then that apparently men there have ZERO respect for women's rights and I vowed never to go there.
Here women come together and fight in solidarity. You just don't get that here in the USA, Canada and UK. There are rape cases in USA, UK, Australia and Canada but it doesn't get shown on the news nation wide just locally. Why not?
Because western culture is very old so no rape cases occur as there are stuff like only fans etc exists that satisfy people enough so they need any other stuff they are happy with it. While India is not so open
for as long as this ideology of" I'm of a higher status than u " exists, India will not be rid of all this. this extremely disgusting ideology stems from hindu caste based systems and it has also led to women being cast as objects, this ideology is so deep rooted and has also been adopted by other members of society ,non-hindus. the dowry system also places women at a disadvantageous position, prone to dowry based crimes, India is a whole host of problems it cannot get out of because there is no desire to change. no political will nor societal will.
The dowry system was not a bad system initially. In the farming community, sons kept and cultivated the lands but daughters are married off. Since she couldn't bring the land with her, she brought clothes, jewellery, food to her in law's house. It started to get misused when boys are cuddled and boy's family demand this and that. I call this pimping.

@@brightcamp4091 woman are made by God to serve the men the Indian society was patriarchal and we will treat women according to our wish woman should be control by men
In some cultures, particularly in India and other developing countries, strict societal norms prohibit relationships between men and women outside of marriage. While sexual expression is heavily restricted, there is little regulation over the availability of pornography or the sexualization of content in movies and media. This contradiction can lead to a dangerous mix of repressed desires and a distorted perception of women, often resulting in horrific crimes like rape and murder. Movies and media often exploit sexuality as a marketing tool, using provocative imagery and content that arouses sexual curiosity, especially among young people. When sex is portrayed as taboo yet simultaneously used to sell entertainment, it can confuse and mislead youth, pushing some towards harmful actions they might not otherwise consider. To address this, governments need to enforce strict regulations on sexually explicit content in movies, media, and online platforms. By doing so, they can help protect the mental well-being of young people and reduce the risk of violence and sexual crimes. It's essential that the entertainment industry refrains from objectifying women's bodies and prioritizes responsible content creation. While mental illness and criminal behavior are universal issues, controlling the media's influence can contribute to a safer and healthier society. In summary, the movie and media industry should be regulated to prevent the glorification of sex, violence, and drugs, which can negatively influence the minds and actions of young people, leading to a generation troubled by depression, fear, and destructive behaviors.

lol. Banana republic. Yeah at least China is more safe. Even though Chinese women are treated poorly, it is so many times better than India. As a feminist, I think we can't get rid of this gender inequality forever cus this is rooted from generation to generation throughout human history. for as long as this ideology of" I'm of a higher status than u " exists, India will not be rid of all this. this extremely disgusting ideology stems from hindu caste based systems and it has also led to women being cast as objects, this ideology is so deep rooted and has also been adopted by other members of society ,non-hindus. the dowry system also places women at a disadvantageous position, prone to dowry based crimes, India is a whole host of problems it cannot get out of because there is no desire to change. no political will nor societal will.

2.Lesotho: Follows closely with a rate of 82.68 per 100,000 people.
3.South Africa: Has a rape rate of 72.10 per 100,000 people.
4. Sweden: Despite its progressive stance on gender equality, Sweden reports 88.98 rapes per 100,000 people.
5.United States: Ranked 13th globally, the U.S. reports a rate of 41.77 per 100,000 .
India has a reported rate of 2.6 per 100,000 people
In absolute numbers in 2021 USA had 108,380 rapes compared to 31,677 reported cases in India .
