    Great to see Arran's The Bodega Sherry Cask make the list. Agreed not as heavily sherried as the others but the balance is so good, it's just a fantastic scotch with the right amount of sherry. A very heavy sherry bomb but from an IB is the 13 year Strathmill CS from Signatory!! Outta this world!

    I agree with you on how good Cardrona Growing Wings is! I was in New Zealand for work earlier this year and tried it at a bar in Auckland and was blown away by it. Was able to get my hands on a bottle, but mine is the Growing Wings 5yr Cask Strength Olorosso Sherry & Bourbon 65.5% edition. I will be opening it soon and going to do some blinds with it for my whiskey nights to see how it stacks up.

    Very nice Video. I like sherry whiskies. I just had a dram of an independent bottler that would be on the fare right top corner of your diagram. It’s the most heavily sherried that I had so fare. It’s the “Blossoming Auld Sherried Michel Couvreur”. It’s not my favorite, but it’s so special… A really interesting Dram.
    One of my favourite wherry whisky is :”Blair Athol 2006 14 Year Old Adelphi RAF Benevolent Fund” (alredy my second bottle 😛).

    My favorite Sherry Bomb whisky is the Aberlour A'bunadh, but I've actually been grabbing my bottle of Tamdhu Batch 5 a lot lately. My newest sherry-bomb favorite is the Kilchoman Loch Gorm 2021. The Kavalan Solist expressions haven't wowed me for the price. I've only tried their Port and Ex-Bourbon casks, but I'm not shelling out the cash for their Sherry version at this point. Another great video, Phil. Cheers!

      Thanks, Kevin! Yeah, I haven't loved the Kavalan whiskies - especially at the price point they are asking. Big fan of Tamdhu Batch 5. Loch Gorm is also an excellent choice; they know how to blend the sherry and smoky notes without either flavour dominating.

    Loch Gorum is one of my very favorite single malts and it is impressive that Kilchoman as a young distillery is putting out product to rival Lagavulin and Ardbeg. Great video, Phil. I have yet to get my hands on the Tamdhu but I'll keep trying to get it. I'm sure I will like it.

    Cooper's Choice - Smoking Sherry (Caol Ila), is a really interesting one, although limited in numbers of bottles so maybe hard to get. Very hot, very smokey, you will think of smoke and fire. I add water to cool it off and then I can taste the sherry flavor we're used to: raisins, figs, fruits, some chocolate, etc. Very rich and oily.

The Glenfarclas 105 cask strength is what I would consider the biggest sherry bomb I've had before. Love that bottle. You get so much bang for the buck too. Also got an unopened glendronach cs batch 10 (almost ordered the 9 before, pew lucky ;)

      for sure, Ledaig10 to the left, close to Caol ila12, and Talisker10 to the right, instead of Ledaig10. Also Lag16 is more peated vs Ledaig10-Caol ila12. Blacklable is nearly zero peated, just a little.

    Edradour 12 CS is excellent sherry bomb but it has a distinctive “dirty” character so it may not please some of the public. It has that weird machine oil notes mixed with heavily cooked plums made into a jam. One of the best whiskies I ever had, I regret not getting a second bottle as it’s completely sold out atm. My favorite is Macallan 18, distilled in 1972, bottled in 1990. The old Macallan bottlings are the quintessential Sherry Bombs. One could argue that Macallan led the Sherry Bomb wave from back in the 80’s & 90’s.
    Today, Macallan has gotten full of itself. Their casks aren’t what they were back in the 20th century. And the price points today are simply obscene.
    I was surprised that no mention of Macallan appeared in the video review or in the threads I’ve seen. In the mid-1980s there was no equal to this venerable old Speyside Distillery.

    Kavalan makes some fantastic whisky in general, but their sherry cask whiskies are especially great. In ascending order of pricing: Triple Sherry Cask, Oloroso Sherry, Solist Oloroso Single Cask Strength, Solist Amontillado Single Cask Strength, Solist Manzanilla Single Cask Strength, Solist PX Single Cask Strength, & Solist Moscatel Single Cask Strength. I hear prices are pretty crazy around the world for many of these, but here in Taiwan they're quite affordable. For the quality level, the Triple Sherry & basic Oloroso Sherry are pretty inexpensive everywhere. My favorite is the Solist Oloroso Single Cask Strength. All are pretty huge sherry bombs.

    My Favourite Sherry Bomb 💣 is Highland Park 18 yo. And A’Bunadh

  • @gatdellobregat
    @gatdellobregat Год назад +1

    One doesn't necessarily need a sherry tooth to enjoy some once in a while. As for me, 105 and A'bunadh are my go to sh-bombs. Glendronach is way up north in terms of price, from Tamdhu I've only tried the 12yo and it's not bad at all and I've yet to try the Arran sherried way, but I'll give it a go as soon as my wallet recovers. Cheers from Bucharest!

    Shame you don't have the Edradour 12 as for me that is the ultimate (currently available) cask strength sherry bomb. Otherwise the 10 at 46% is a no brainer. The Abunadh sems to be less sherry with every new batch, but was amazing and is still great value. Otherwise I have a few older Glen Dronach 18s stashed, those are pure nectar. Must remind myself of the Arran Sherry, been a while since I had one.

      @DayKlight Год назад +2

      yes, old abunadh had up to 20-25 year old sherry casks in there, mixed with some younger ones, all matured in finest european oak butts, now its young sherry casks mixed together :(

      In 2014 I had an Abunadh batch 45: it blew my mind, amazing flavour, but the newer stuff doesn’t seem to be the same quality. Such a shame, but there’s other stuff to discover.

    I have the Glendronach Batch 7... trust me, it's bad. Not a good way to start Rachel Barrie. Young, sharp, tannins galore.
    On the other hand I've tried the GlenAllachie Batch 6 and Aberlour A'bunadh Batch 69, but scrumptious. Glengoyne Batch 008 isn't bad either. And the Kavalan Solist is also excellent.
    Still to try, Glenfarclas 105 and Arran Sherry Cask.
    Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦

    Bottled at 46% ABV, the Signatory Edradour 10 is probably my favorite sherried whisky. A’bundah is a classic. Unfortunately, the quality of the Uigeadial has dropped from where it was.
    I’d really like to try the Tea Pot Dram and Arran Sherry.

      I live in Taiwan and their entry level bottles are quite affordable for the quality. Their rarer high end Solist bottles can be pricey, but based on quality I think they're pretty reasonable here if you know where to shop. Their prices are insane around the world though.

    No mentions of kilkerran 8? I know it's a batch release but so is Aberlour abundah to be fair. I habe never met someone who has tried the Kk8 and prefers another sherry bomb over it.
    Granted its become very hard to find recently but its so refined and probably the best 8 Year old whisky ever
