They said I couldn't build an off-grid home in Hawaii on a small budget

  • Mahalo for joining me on a tour of my Hawaiian off-grid paradise. Each year I leave the bitter cold of Minnesota and spend the winter building my small home in the woods of the Puna district of Big Island, Hawaii. Still a work in progress, each year I get closer to my dream of a self-sustaining homestead a million miles from anywhere.

If you are building a tiny home in Hawaii just build it on a flat bed trailer as your foundation. keep the tires on and skirt the trailer with lattice. then register the trailer and pay the license plate cost. This way you wont pay property tax on the tiny home. I built one on Oahu and it drove the property tax guy crazy... but alas its a trailer not a home on foundation..

I love the natural path to the house. Nothing but peaceful untouched nature. The shower is awesome and so is the lanai off the loft. Enjoy the good life in paradise. 😊

Two questions. 1, where does all the septic go? 2, are you not afraid to wake up one night with your property surrounded by lava?

I love this! I'm looking forward to your future videos. How is the vog in Mountain View? How was your experience with the loud coqui frogs, mean wild hogs, noisy wild chickens, and wild dogs so far? How do you get internet out there? I'm from Honolulu, and have been starting to look into getting some property on Big Island to do my own off-grid home, and these are things my old aunties keep telling me to worry about.
