You have to think more simply. North shore is out of reach but big island has affordable land but we lack surf and beaches and soil in many spots so you have to deal with that
I want to purchase a small piece of land (~0.5 acres) in Big Island so I can do my homestead. What area should I look? And is there a good real estate agent who can help me? Thank you.
I think I can spend up to 40K. But prefer less. And I would like to get about an acres. I said 0.5 but I think I prefer 1+ acres. Thank you for your response on this. Really appreciate it.
I started by looking on www.alohaliving.com/ or now a days zillow and entered my budget. That instantly narrowed me down to the big island in Puna. From there I found property that was in my price range and double checked it against google maps and lava zones. Then I just looked around and checked each one out. It is key to be on the ground, do not buy sight unseen. Once you are here, you may decide that you like the area north of hill, or kona, or maybe you like a certain subdivision over another? It'll take some work. Good Luck.
Brother, I love this video. I like how you laid it out, I like how you worked for it. I like how you are optimistic and say to make the dream happen! Any suggestion as to where I could look for land? Like a website, or do you know of some for sale? Is that area safe from the lava? What is the better direction (N,S,E,W) to be located? Also you think they will still turn a blind eye in 2022? Any other places in HI that are chiller like this? If a neighbor calls on you what might happen? Any info on that would be appreciated, thanks!

The county has water spigots everywhere that you can get free water from. Places in Mountain view would be easier to go off grid, and since most of the cool swim spots in pahoa are now covered with lava, may as well be in mountain view, but it is colder.

I’m looking for a place now and am interested in 2 lots but am still looking. I live on Oahu right now but as soon as I am ready, I plan to fly over to check out the lots and would love to meet you and check out your set up. If this is possible, please let me know. Thank you.
Sounds like you already have a lab in place, but I do offer consultations. Feel free to check them out on my website www.homesteadinHawaii.com
@@HomesteadinHawaii thank you so much. 😃
Who’s the grader you used?
Walker excavation
great video! i would love to chat with you sometime, as my wife and I are looking to build our homestead. Hope you score some good waves, and your place looks great btw:)
Feel free to reach out at homesteadinhawaii@gmail.com
Yeah that's what I want a simple piece of land, who did you go through to get land
You have to think more simply. North shore is out of reach but big island has affordable land but we lack surf and beaches and soil in many spots so you have to deal with that
Where can you buy cheap land for off grid in Hilo Hawaii?
It's hard to find it but if you don't mind being a log way from town there are still a ton of "affordable" parcels.
are there many bugs in rural hawaii, i hate big spiders especially but i am prepared to battle some of them atleast
There are many bugs but none are poisonous. Some hurt when they bite like fire ants or centipede but they wonʻt kill you
Wow
Wish the facts in this video were still the same, time for an update
I want to purchase a small piece of land (~0.5 acres) in Big Island so I can do my homestead. What area should I look? And is there a good real estate agent who can help me? Thank you.
Budget?
I think I can spend up to 40K. But prefer less. And I would like to get about an acres. I said 0.5 but I think I prefer 1+ acres. Thank you for your response on this. Really appreciate it.
May I ask what part of Hawaii are you in and where did you search for land? I’ve been looking online but it just seems like such a broad search.
Good Luck.
I hear if you some class about farming the goverment will lease the land for at the minimal cost ?
Price depends on new or used panels and selfinstalled or solar company.
As with all things diy is cheaper
On the off grid homesteads can you have a milk cow?
If you can feed it you can have it
Basic living for the basic mind.💯
That's all you really need
You Da man bro...
The dream is still alive. It just costs more. All those questions you asked would require a consult but my best advice, check out puna in person to see if you like it. It is not for everyone
@@HomesteadinHawaii Cool, I have a future trip to the area planned. I have a friend that has was living on the other side of the island and has been out that way. I would consider a consult sometime. Thanks for the reply. I work in Alaska on a farm in the summer. I also wonder if a vehicle would be safe unattended while I am away.
@@jonathankuhn2180 nothing is safe unattended out here. Either the jungle reclaims it or rippers will take it
@@marymalko5105 The Jungle I can deal with and understand. But rippers? Guessing that is a term for thieves? That's sad. Not very attractive to live somewhere that is getting eyeballed by thieves.
**RIGHT ON BROTHER*** *YOU FUKN DID IT MAN* *CATER*
Thanks for saying that, I guess I did, I feel grateful!
What is your monthly expenses now?
Great question, you can probably add a zero to everything. The post COVID world probably raised the cost of things by 50% at least.
great video ty 2020
Thank you so much for the information. We planning to move to some places with tropical whether, could you advice me which area in Hawaii is out for volcanoes. Thank you for your time
Just stay away from anything past Pahoa town itself and you should be fine.
I did the same thing in my channel is the same name hahaha nice to meet you.
You too
your channel is exactly what we were looking for. My partner and I have got the cheap living over here on the mainland down. we're ready and gearing up for the move to Hawaii to put what we've learned over the past 5 years into action. Homestead Hawaii here we come. Thanks brother Aloha
Mahalo. Good luck on your move!
what the name of the Island in Hawaii , I Like to known about It
I hit the jackpot! you are my indpiration! Going off grid in Hawaii is my dream! And I was thinking of east Oahu myself!
Thanks for saying so. I don't know Oahu too well, but if you are in the rural parts of east oahu you should be fine, otherwise expect some hurdles to jump through.
I want to come Maui
Hello can I call you? I have a few questions.
You can sign up for a consult. Www.homesteadin Hawaii.com
Just found your channel man. You are a legend 💪🌴 respect.
Mahaloz
You gave us so much good information in this one vid. Thank you for sharing
Itʻs a little dated now but Iʻm glad it could help
How much money do you spend on food monthly?
Family of four, with two teenagers, $800-$1000. Were going to be hunting more next year
This is a great video also shows how much you can save by doing things yourself.
Thanks. If youʻre on a budget, you have to do it yourself, there is no other way
I wanted to see your house!
Ha! One day perhaps.
Great video! Very inspirational!
Mahalo
OK got it, I'm just really attached to this Island, my Mom was from here and I have relations here so sorry to step on your parade and keep up the good work you are doing.
This guy selling fake dreams folks
If you cant dream it, it will never happen. And it happened for me just like I mentioned in the video
Land 3 g, house 5 g, infrastructure 2 g.
The good ole days
@@HomesteadinHawaiiyep, twenty years ago.
Awesome video brother..looking into taking a vacation this year to look at some property’s in the Ocean view,Mountain view and Pahoa area super excited I found your channel..time for some binge watching this weekend thank you for the great content 😎
Ha! Hope I don't waste too much of your time. Good luck!
@@HomesteadinHawaii Thank you..it’s inspiring me and with your local knowledge I’m definitely learning a lot and looking into things that I probably wouldn’t have..so definitely not a wast of time. In the beginning I will probably do a small Yurt or small cabin at or under 220 sq ft to help with permits.
I will also only be staying part of the year for the first few years..I’m thinking of finding a caretaker for the property or someone local to rent it cheep to help detour the theft issue..what do you think would be a good way to go in that type of situation.
Thanks again for all that you do ! 😎
I wanna go home! I’m originally from Oahu, this is very good info! Anything is possible when you live your truth. Very inspiring! Ty!!
I hope you can make it happen. This video was precovid, a lot has changed since then. The market on oahu is nuts!
Are there any decent surf breaks near you?
No, they're all under lava. All that's left is junk at best
thanks for putting the idea in my head to start small!! i was trying to go so big and wondered why my dream seemed so unattainable! thank you!!
I'd rather live my dream simply than try and save up for one that will never happen.
Video idea. It would be nice if you would show us around your property so we could see all the food bearing plants you have planted and how quickly the plants have grown. Are you fully self sufficient with food production etc?
I do have a mini site tour video but I should get a better food forest edition going.
@@HomesteadinHawaii I did find that video after I made that suggestion. I enjoyed that one also!
💗🐈⬛
Great video excited to check out your site
Awesome, thank you!
Where is your homestead located?
In pahoa
Do you still have access to grocery stores target, costco, etc?
Sure do. Hard to get away from those places
@@HomesteadinHawaii (Angelic Choir music) thank you!! 🙏
Im moving to Kauai. . My husband is a Hawaiian. . We are going off grid. . Thanks for your video. . His sister lives in Puna!!!
Awesome! Kauai is amazing!! Good Luck.
Super helpful information! Mahalo bra!
Mahalo for watching
I really enjoy your videos. Thank you. I’m curious to know what your major hospitals are, and what the medical care is like?
Crappy really. Most procedures require a flight over to oahu.
Homesteadin' Hawai'i do you have major hospitals on the Big Island?
@@TheQueenOfDreams we have a hospital in hilo, waimea and kona
Waimea has the best one, the rest have too many bad stories come out of them. We need doctors and nurses
you the man... i tried 2 times but i had a great job so i soldout
I've come and gone a few times myself.
I got the property just need to build
The adventure begins!
Great RUclips channel! I'm New here . I love it !
Good information my braddah! Really appreciate it.
I have watched a ton of off grid videos and had become discouraged. But after watching 2 of your videos I feel encouraged. 1 Acre of land is all I need. Are property taxes high in Hawaii? Access to groceries until/instead of a garden? Medical facilities? Roads are like what?
It all depends on where you are.
Can you cabin/off grid in Nanawale? Are they strict on permits there? Also what you tink about Mountain View?🤔I’m from Oahu and now in Florida and trying fo get back home. O’ahu is definitely out of the question!!$$$$$ Puna seems doable. So ovah da mainland!!😩
I love all your info, thank you so much!! Also Sean, what you did for water when you first got onto your property?
The county has water spigots everywhere that you can get free water from. Places in Mountain view would be easier to go off grid, and since most of the cool swim spots in pahoa are now covered with lava, may as well be in mountain view, but it is colder.
Achieve your dream… I love it!
