    This is very helpful & useful information. Not everyone with a Romantic body type or more curvaceous/voluptuous figure wants to dress like a Sex Kitten or in overly frilly, ruffles & bows. There is room for individual expression if you know your line & proportion. Would love more videos exploring this topic 👍

    I think all romantics can go back and forth between this esthetics.The defining difference from my own experience is a contrasting brow. A darker brow, helps bring this sophisticated "dryness" to a romantic face. Whereas a harmonious brow that doesn't contrast the skin to much ,brings out a lot of softness and ingénue qualities of the facial features. I think this two are very good examples for that.
    Edit:Also a matt or luminous complexion can create the same effect.

    • @KarlaTheMichelle
      @KarlaTheMichelle 4 года назад +4

      luiza buna yep whenever I bleach my brows people think I look wayyy friendlier / softer so it’s fun to play with that

      @someareroses 3 года назад +4

      Yeeees! I'm a romantic and I want to get my eyebrows microbladed. I've been torn between getting a high contrast blunt brow shape or a low contrast rounded shape because depending on which I have between the two, my aesthetic dramatically changes.
      I thought I was being weird for making such a fuss about something potentially insignificant but as a wise modelling agent once said: eyebrows are really important, they frame the face.

      This is my personal philosophy 🙌🏻 The archetypes are meant to serve as a springboard and give us some absolute truths to lean on. But it doesn’t mean that we’ll all fit into some box. It’s about finding your unique balance ☯️

    • @DolceSuono9

      Elyssa Yes, I’ve been coming to this conclusion as well. I was really struggling as to whether I was Soft Natural or Romantic, I have broad shoulders, seemingly a lot of B answers, but some could be E, and I have excessive curves, even when I’m thin. My face has also filled out similarly to Kate’s, but I think I have a lot of bluntness overall. Anywho, I appreciate you getting deeper into the comparisons. I also have a lot of classical-esque preferences. So, hmm, I don’t know. Maybe mix all in blender and see what comes out!? 🤷🏻‍♀️

    • @jasmeen5712
      @jasmeen5712 4 года назад +9

      @@DolceSuono9 Well from what you're saying, you seem to fall exactly into the Soft Natural body type. Some people think that if they have curves, they are romantic and theatrical romantic which isn't true. Soft Dramatic, Fambloyant Natural, Soft Natural, Soft Classic and Soft Gamine can have curves too. Your description reminds me of Scarlett Johannson who's a Soft Natural.

      Jasmeen Well, I think I’ve been hung up on my shoulders and unsure, because I’ve always had equal D/E answers, and question if they’re actually more, ie body dysmorphia. I started off thinking soft classic, then sure I was a curvy soft natural. Yesterday I saw pictures of Drew Barrymore and her shoulders are more like mine, and other things too. I tend to wear a lot of SN just for comfort and modesty, maybe I still will, but I won’t really know without trying different shapes on. 🤷🏻‍♀️

    I just have to say,
    Of the 3 main channels that cover Body Archetypes yours is by far the best. First I love how you went beyond Kibbe to really understand and explain the methodology of body archetypes in that you established a real foundation. The others just don't delve beyond the surface and seem to only defend his typing even when questionable...But you apply the knowledgeable of your research to go even next level and suggest new archetypes, which is so fun! This is my approach too, I narrow down to my base archetype and then mix and match, experiment in places the test suggest something other than my base type.
    All that being said, I do wish in this video in particular, if you'd went further and defended the new archetypes by showing images of these two in each others new styles. That would have been very interesting! I feel that most images you used were tilted to make your point. Swapping would've given some balance. Many images come to mind that would work of Beyonce not so many of Kate but I am sure there are some in wilds of Kate that you would consider Glam Romantic. Anyway Great Video Doll!

    I’ve been studying Kibbe for a while (textbook romantic) and this is one of the best videos on romantics. For me especially, I feel I have a strong classic essence that makes some romantic recos (like prints and ruffles) difficult for me to pull off. It’s been this way since I was a child, as my mom is a more is more person and noticed early on that her choices would overwhelm me. Hearing you talk about why Kate isn’t a classic (her curves are so pronounced that they have to be accommodated before anything else) really struck a cord. Yes, I have that classic essence and need to stay somewhat pared back, but my curves have needed first accommodation since I was in 7th grade! I remember middle school was when I realized how differently I was built to the leggy naturals around me. Kibbe has shown me beauty in my form in a way that simplydressing for “hourglass” recommendations never has.

    It's great to see someone bring up age as a factor! :) I think it can really change som features, even though it doesn't change your type entirely. I'm a 34-year-old soft natural and I do think that I had some more softness 10 years ago. My figure is still soft, but face isn't as soft as before, so I can definitely see some slight changes. It doesn't mean I'm not SN today, but the yin undercurrent was more pronounced when I was younger.

    • @elyssa_aesthetic
      @elyssa_aesthetic  4 года назад +10

      Yes! This happens to a lot of women and it’s absolutely relevant to bring up. Obviously since Beyoncé started off with a little more ingenue facial features she’s able to pull through more circular shapes as she’s aged and those sparkling details don’t make her look immature! I think the biggest thing is to pay attention to how looks are interacting.....that’s where we start to gain more discernment🙌🏻

    Interestingly enough, I have always naturally gravitated to glamorous, big hair, girly clothes, etc. Without meaning to sound full of myself, I have consistently been praised for my fashion sense. But, I was always wishing I looked like my old boss, who wore simple dresses, pants, button up blouses, etc. She always looked so good in her simple, classy outfits, but when I emulated her look, I felt sooo boring in her style. I chalked it up to being short and overweight, while my boss is taller and thinner. But, she always complimented me on my style. Knowing about the Kibbe types now helps me understand why our styles looked great on us but not on each other.

    Thanks a lot of this video! I do hope there will be a romantic with soft yang as well but this video is very comforting. all the TR recommendations felt weird because i like quirky, androgynous and/or bright clothes or uber feminine clothing but with some kind of interest so dressing like marilyn monroe was really not me. i've had a good idea of what looked good on me but this just shows how our lines are just lines. we can incorporate them however we want. i've been able to start picking out lines in clothes i've had for a while that didn't fit me the best and i won't have to second guess about my style anymore. so anything i add will still be me and fit me best as well.

    I am so happy you are taking this approach (flesh and facial features affecting frame) to styling recommendations! Question: To me it seems that all of the other systems that have built on Ms. Northrup’s Yin/Yang philosophy as spectrums describe style suggestions for either either added softness or sharpness to body types. To me, the blunt yang of naturals is different from the sharp yang of dramatics, and so adding extra blunt yang to an archetype frame should have different styling recommendations than adding sharp yang. For instance, what would you recommend for a classic with added blunt yang (a classic with extra “natural features and flesh”) as opposed to one with added sharp yang? (Dramatic classic)? Also, do you think styling suggestions would be different for a classic with extra natural yang than they would be for a natural with extra classic features?

    I agree to the personal style thing. And Kate is definitely a dignified romantic. Such an accurate term! But for Beyonce, I sometime feel that she is on TR side rather than R. She has delicacy and willowy features rather than broad. I don't know it's just me.

    ahhhh this helps soo much... I am a romantic however my facial features are more powerful... like thicker eyebrows and lashes ( my parents are from the middle east) so when I looked at recommendations for romantics... it always seemed a bit un sophisticated on me. Kate Winslet's type is exactly me. Which makeup looks would you recommend then? Because my body is a romantic yet the face is different, so when i do that romantic makeup it looks too " light" on my face

      Season and mood! If both these aesthetics work well on you then viva la variety! What type of climate do you love in? Also, my summer wardrobe is quite different from my fall/winter wardrobe. But I’m still able to have some pieces that bridge the gap. Maybe take an inventory of your wardrobe and literally try on all your pieces and take photos and see where you can bridge the gap if that’s something you’re looking to accomplish. Just a suggestion.

    I believe you've touched on this before, but could you please offer more insight on what could be considered Yin Vs Yang.
    Fore example, in the Kibbie system romantics have wider and bigger hands and feet compared to theatrical romantics. I'm guessing that the small and narrower hands of TR are considered sharper. However, I tend to see them as being more delicate and dainty in comparison to R and thus closer to Yin IMO.
    What I'm saying I guess is is yin and Yang a clearcut thing, or is there room for personal interpretations.

      In face,having romantic and ingenue is impossible, but having a romantic body with an ingenue face or ingenue body with romantic face is possible!! A "cute" romantic is actually a variant of a romantic,just like gamines have soo much variety within the archetype.

    i love your videos! subscribed! can you do a video on where the plus size women fit into all of this? I'm a size 14 and the "scale" doesn't really address my body. my facial features are ingenue (dimples, big eyes, heart lips) but my body is super curvy especially in the lower half. I'm also a really light-hearted flirty person but I veer towards minimalist aesthetic stylistically but it's hard to accommodate those styles while being curvy. i would love to hear what you have to say about yin and yang balances for plus-sized folks.

    Kate Winslet looks like a soft classic to me. Fully romantic styles are too busy and can be somewhat garish on her. Even with a rounder bust, she is evenly proportioned.

  • @byssabyss
    @byssabyss 3 года назад +2

    I really think you have a great eye and a developed sense of style essence, but in the case of Kate Winslet, I have to say that what I see is a very soft woman who is repeatedly being given the false appearance of drama. She is seen almost consistently in these sleek sculptural looks, with straight or slicked back hair, and overly lined lips, which give her this illusion of hardness. The effect is as if one took the image of a cloud and drew hard lines around them and deepened the shadows so that the cloud looked as if it were made of stone. When she has the soft romantic curls, watercolour makeup and lush fabric, her rose-like beauty comes through. She certainly has a kind of strength, but not one that is heightened by all that sculptural, inhibiting styling. So in conclusion, I don't see the classic looks that she is often seen in as being very flattering, and if she ever does do the softer look that we saw in her youth which was a nod to her character in Titanic, we will be astounded at how much more youthful and lush she looks, even now.
