The 68 Comeback Special is definitely a tribute to Elvis' enduring talent but his movie career is not a waste. He made some really good movies with some really good music. Then you have his opening in Las Vegas 1970, Madison Square Garden in 72, the Aloha concert in 73. And some good concerts in between. So buck up Seph. Glad you loved the 68 Special ❤ You then start over or revisit your favorite music like the rest of us fans.

55 years today this was broadcast. And it’s still as fresh as ever, showing how ahead of his time Elvis was. Loved your enthusiasm and observations. Do watch the full version of the show, in one part he does have a strap on his guitar. Interestingly, his Granddaughter, Riley Keogh, uses the exact same strap in her series “ Daisy and the Six”.

This TV special came to be known as the '68 Comeback Special. Elvis' career was in the toilet by that time. He hadn't performed live through much of the 60s and this truly was a comeback for him. Billed as a Christmas special, it was anything but that... it was Elvis showing the world who the real Elvis is. And just like that he was back on top again.
I've never seen anyone react to the entire special from beginning to end, one song, medley or montage at a time. I like the way you did this. No one can really appreciate it without watching the whole show all the way through. And without understanding the importance of this special at that critical time in his career. Excellent reaction from you as usual.

I've always loved how Elvis looks and moves during closing credits... playing guitar in that white suit....
After just one watch, you were able to process & summarize this special so well Seph.⭐ You were spot on, there is a storyline. It's about a young guitar player setting out to make his mark in the world, he finds success, then loses his way for a time, but eventually returns to his roots.
It was Elvis's own story. Well, 31 Elvis videos in 5 days Seph, we have been truly spoiled 😄❤

There are still quite a few ‘68 Special songs to go, so you’ve got those to look forward to, at least in the short term! You truly appreciated this more than most because you watched it in the context of the time, after only hearing mediocre songs for years. Then this came along and it must have been stunning at the time. Your journey represents what fans must have gone through at the time. Love it.
A bit harsh 'mediocre songs for years. Does that include the How Great Thou Art album, Love Letters, I'll Remember You, Down in The Alley, Viva Las Vegas, Little Egypt, City By Night and so forth.
Only some songs were mediocre during all those years. Many were phenomenal huge multi-million record sellers. Seph called many of them bangers & double bangers. You're correct that his musical journey as shown by Seph is what we experienced from the start. Us fans loved that journey (dud songs & mediocre movies included). That's why Elvis holds every music record & still has literally millions of fans around the world still listening 46 years after he left us.
I really enjoyed watching you enjoy the special. Don't feel bad that you are going back to movies, there aren't that many left and then you can focus on his live performances.
This really is a treasure trove.

Don’t worry you’re just about done with the movies! You didn’t waste your time- you’re experiencing his career the way it unfolded but you got to do it in the sped up version! You went through 1953-1968 in a year and a half. Not too shabby!

Loved sharing this with you Seph such a great thing to do commemorating 55 years of this TV special - so proud of you for what you are doing in keeping Elvis's legacy alive - think you only have Change of Habit film to do - there are some great songs in there (well I like them!) - you'll need a week to recover after being all Elvised-out😜

It was a magnificent day! Thank you so much!! Don't be sad. I can think of at least a half dozen songs (all must-sees) from the '68 Special that you didn't react to. Your friend (who I suspect isn't an Elvis fan) did you wrong. The sit-down version of "Heartbreak Hotel" is SO good as is "Are You Lonesome Tonight" from the sit-down show #2. We don't want you to miss out on any of the magic. I'm sure you'd also love: Elvis - 68 Comeback Bloopers (12:42).
Don't fret about going back to movie songs. There's only one movie left. As for "wasting" a year, think about all the Elvis songs you now have on your personal playlist and how much joy you've brought to people all over the world. Personally, I've had a blast watching your chronological journey and am excited for what lies ahead.

@SephPlays Good to hear! I think you only have 200+ songs left. 🎵 I hope this isn't a spoiler. Elvis performed 1,600+ concerts. Unfortunately, you won't be watching 1,600+ concerts. Two words: The Colonel. But with all the documentaries, interviews, rehearsals, etc. you won't run out of content for a long, long time.

As you will read in all these comments, you did not get to the best stuff from this show. We're feeling really bad you missed it. Not for us. We already know it. We want to make sure you get to see it. Please, have whoever gets your songs together get the sit-down jam sessions with the band on the little stage. You've missed most of them. You need to watch them in sequence making sure to not cut out the parts between the songs. Tell him or her to make sure it is the first take, where Elvis comes out and the band is already sitting on the stage. This section of the show was fantastic and you should get to see it. Loved your reactions to what you did get to see though, as always. I (and we) really appreciate your reactions - they're the best. You really feel the music.
Seph your journey has not been a waste! You got me to listen to songs that I never would have bothered to and re-listen to others with a new appreciation. You’ve made me laugh and cry at times too. Thank you for being you.

There's a lot that was missed out of the video you watched, though. I realise you wouldn't know that as you've never seen it before, but there's a lot more to it. There's also a 'blooper' video which is very funny. A lot of the extra footage that didn't make it to the final cut was released after his death, so, I suppose, as you're doing this in chronological order, you probably won't be watching it until then?
The good news is that you don't need to feel so down about going back to the movies. You're already onto 'Live A Little, Love A Little' and 'The Trouble With Girls', which only leaves his last movie ''Change of Habit' and that was actually a good one with some good songs in it 😊
He does his first live show in Vegas in 1969 after he finishes with the movies, so you'll soon be onto that. Then there's a couple of good documentaries that were made in 1970 and 1972 following him as he rehearses and goes on tour - you'll love them.

In a Danish newspaper 5 years ago, the named the 68 show, the biggest comeback in the music industry . Number 2 was Dawid Bowies comeback just before he died.
Glad you liked it so much, but seeing the entire show, I think, would blow you away even more. This version was quite different than what we saw or you can view if you choose. Scenes were cut short, not in same order, some scenes were completely missing. Hard to explain. Thanks for sharing it. Loved every moment. So again, hope you take time to see it in entirety. You won't regret it.
What happened to Trying to Get to You in the jam session? The best jamming ever. Did I miss it? I didn't really care for the way some of these videos were put together. Too much of the sit-down sessions missing, which were the best versions of the songs. There are some very, very good songs to come, so don't worry about the future. Even a couple of movie bangers.
Trying to get to you Is my favourite so disappointed not to see it hopefully Seph will do the missing songs at a later date

the movies are just about done - think you've got change of habbit left and songs actually quite good (only 4 and one or two bonus songs) - think it may have an EP (for all you youngsters that is an extended play single with 4 or 5 songs on it).
There’s a video called ‘Elvis four songs from 06-27-1968’ that has blue suede shoes, what you want me to do, heartbreak hotel and one night with you… all together with some in between dialogue 😁😁

Not a real fan of the comeback special .but absolutely loved Elvis on tour.
On to some concerts, and then to the 1973 1st World Wide Concert.
Mate, don't worry about topping the 68 Special cause for me, that, and the That's The Way It Is recordings are the best of the best. But if we are true Elvis fans we take the not so good with the good. Not to worry. Like you Brits say, we have to "take the psss". I mean heck, even "The Elvis" for sure had to "take the psss" to fulfill those contracts and walk the line for the Colonel. Like you say Elvis had some artistical and musical input for the Special at his insistence cause the Colonel had him on a short leash 90% of the time. The Elvis fans are varied too in that some like all his films and music. Just carry on having fun and making us laugh and going through the whole gambit of emotion's together...it's really cool. Keep that "Elvis Train" amoving please, that's the main thing. We're onboard with ya man.

I very much love your reactions to Elvis but let me tell you why i like those dumb ass movie songs that he covered. Jut to be able too hear his singing voice period. I mean damned. He even made old Macdonald sound good. I mean seriously.

You realize that the show started with Elvis dressed in black singing, "If you're looking for trouble..." and ended with him dressed in white singing about peace and love.
The brilliance of the program is that it incorporated both sides of Elvis: the bad boy and the boy next door. What performer had both personalities at the same time? No wonder women found him irresistible.
