Customers where saying the same things when I was servicing TV’s in the 70's favourite one was "I think it’s just a fuse or a loose wire" or "it can’t be much because it was working fine yesterday it just won’t come on this morning." I really like your approach to the reality of making a living using different skills you have acquired phones, laptops, tablets, macs etc. not only that you have done but done it using your own system like your no schematic laptop fault finding methods which you demonstrate time after time. I am retired now but you have sparked my interest in laptop fault finding (not to start a business, but to keep my brain active) so thank you for sharing and the time people take criticising you they will not have made a bean, you on the other hand you .will have probably cleared a couple of jobs in that time. . . Splendid job with the hinges, never seen that kind of fix before, and using the glue with your heat gun is better than the glue pistol that I always use.

suggestion, instead of a tin i got a cheap plastic ice cube tray and cut it in half really works for separating screw sizes on phones then the second one if i order parts i can work on another and set the screws from first aside

OMG, I think no matter how good your repair is, this laptop isn't going to last much longer. Not because your job is bad, but the way that customer take care of this laptop.

You have a unique way of doing the glue - it seems to work though
a handy advice to strip wires :) use a lighter for a second on the wire and pull it with your nails... it's better that way because you don't hurt ( cut ) the wires, so they don't break if jugged... regards from sLOVEnia
as always, this is a nice job Sorin. by the way I have the same issues with some people here in Morocco trying to get their stuff fixed as cheap as possible, or if you don't check their things at first in front of them before you decide to accept the job, they will try to make you responsible for things you didn't cause at all, it's rude and it's makes me angry too!!!
Awesome job with the hinges. For the dipole wifi antenna you get better results if you leave about 2.5cm of the shielding (which isn't always possible like in that laptop since you needed more lenght of wire to get to a plastic part) and 2.5cm of the inner wire because it is about 1/4 of the wavelength.
consumer protection agency. for the guy who orders an item then changes their mind. Pay as you go comrade, if you pay for something, don't change your mind pisano, or you pay the re-stocking fee and mail. sure that is fair.
I had similar hp laptop but both hinges snapped on the laptop's body and I drilled a hole where the plastic snapped and put an m3 bolt through the body (bolt cut to size) and wasn't even noticeable there. Hot glue it's also fine but in my opinion it's a ticking bomb. It's all about what works for you.
That laptop looks like my laptop. I'm glad mine isn't destroyed like that one. You sure did a good job resurrecting that train wreck. Hopefully it doesn't come back in a week or 2 from the obvious abuse that this customer puts it through.

I think you did good job on given resources (Customer's wants) , if you have to replace all the parts and do a right job, the cost of replacement parts and time would be more than this laptop is worth new.

I would not trust hot glue for repairing broken hinges and then give 3 months warranty. If the laptop is old I use either 2-component glue or just drill through and use 2mm screw with nuts. If possible I also loosen the adjustment nut on the hinge little bit to reduce the tension on the broken hinge mount.
On a job like that I use 2 Part epoxy and I replace the wifi antenna with one pulled from an old scrapper
Hot glue does not stick to hard plastic and will become undone over a short term
He all ready done that using the epoxy he mention it in other video, the problem with epoxy is its very hard so its will crack again but using the hot glue is better because its flexible, but you need to use hot air not the glue gun.

the worst one i had to do had more epoxy and sheet aluminum in it than screws, i ended up gluing the case shut because there was nothing to keep it from breaking again.

I fixed my Dell, which for my sake has aluminum cover, with tiny screws that passed all trough the cover and polished the tips with a grinder. Than a sticker made the job looking good!

Haha that laptop reminded me of 2 laptops I had
My sister in law laptop broke both hinges but from the laptop base and the easiest and fastest solution was a few washers nuts and bolts looked ugly bolts sticking out the bottom of it but did the job haha
And I brought a new Asus laptop i7 a very nice looking machine but yep both hinges broke from the screen casing but thankfully that was under warranty got it fixed by Asus took them 1 & half month to fix it but thankfully had a backup laptop
But did argue with the repair guy when taking in laptop asking for my laptops passwords he had no reason for that as it was hinge issue he said it's for testing purposes still didn't give it
Hi Sorin, I think the Hot Glue thing is the ONLY THING one can do in front of such problems and anyway is *way better* than how this customer treated is laptop. Onle a thing: HOW you face the problem of re-opening it, with such hot glue all over the place? or you refuse to repair it?

I honestly can't imagine why they'd even want to fix that laptop. If I just assume the charge for the repair (parts/labor) and then assume the value of that laptop I see zero value in fixing it. The owner would be better off saving the money toward a new (or good & used) laptop.
Again, I get "cheap repair" and "some people cannot afford new devices". I get it but it still doesn't apply, lmao.
That's a $75 laptop BEFORE it was busted in 1000 pieces. Take the business (!) but why would the owner want it fixed?! Do they think their data is tied to it and not the HDD?! Amazing.

Are the hot glue repairs actually stronger than the factory mountings?
It takes little time and practice with the hot glue, but after that the final result is very good.
There is also JB Weld which is a 2 part epoxy but that requires about 24 hrs to fully cure.
we use bolts through the back cover here. not the prettiest repair, but strong.

Poor laptop... suffered so much abuse by cruel owner... I was wondering why you didn't just splice the black wifi cable from the lower part to the black cable coming down from the screen area instead of just cutting it away.

they are not made like they used to be..I used araldite for now they will be stripped and sold
its not an issue i have had many laptops that people try to fix themselves and they do not take
the laptop to pieces properly and snapped the laptop base in half..You think you seen every
thing but some of the things people do to there laptops are quite funny...I find the old CFL
screen are heavy and the basses are very flimsy :))..

Sorin , sorry for what i'm going tell you , you fixing that with hot glue, and i do it with another glue , you give 3month warranty , i give more than 6 months :P actually if the customer try to broke it again , it will be broken in another place and not in the place where i fix it haha , because it's very solid, but the problem with my work that a problem like this one in that video will take 3 days to get done haha , but only 15min to 30min/day
