Nothing like racing a death trap and removing the airbag. Did they take off the seatbelts to save weight? 😂😂😂 Why did they pay so much for that heap??? Yeeeeeehaw!!!
LOL, came here waiting for the 10mm part! Basically everything major on there is 10mm, makes life so easy. Also super good chassis for autocross, Strano Suspension was Dominant in CAMC for years at the national level. Factory '98+ cars also ran 12.8 and 12.9 in the quarter mile consistently back in the day with the T56, after the standard weight (t tops and spare tire) was removed. Dummy quick cars in stock trim.
4th Gen Camaro are actually pretty high potential hotrods. The biggest issue I ever had with them was the poor fit and finish and the massive firewall overhang on the engine.
Oh man, If you guys don't put that back together I would definitely join a Camaro forum and ship it to people that need it on a rebuild for the cost of shipping. That would be so cool! As an fbody owner I laughed the who time. These cars are super slept on due to their looks but they can perform very well. The steering wheel issue is very common, hawks Motorsport sells a billet bushing for that pin, there’s water all over the floor from the usual ttop leak.
I worked at Advance for 10 years as a retail parts pro. You can get an LS engine no problem, just have to order it. I had ordered engines Transmissions Many times for customers. Tell them you need to order an engine for a 98-2002 Camaro or 97-2004 Corvette for the 5.7 LS (LS1) engine or the truck for the 5.3 LS engine (LM7) That Avalanche you said was closer had a 5.3 with aluminum heads (LM7) That catfish was the first year for the ls1 and that front end in the Camaro, pretty nice if you ask me, but would put the 97 front end on it cause it looks meaner. I got a 97 Camaro with the LT1 and I love it. Back under seats get wet from the rear hatch leaking at the top. best way to dispose of an airbag is to sell it, there is surely someone looking for one those years 93-2002. The little bit of play is normal due to the locking mechanism. Every one I have seen even brand new has that little wiggle in that style tilt wheel. Great video guys.
Kinda want to see this thing wind up as a rival/ counter part, to the mr-s, learning technique from its complete opposite and some chassis/handling stuff for the sunk boat hydrated fish
I used to own a 94 trans am. Basically the Pontiac version of this car. I owned one American vehicle in my life, that was it and it will be the last. Cheaply made junk. I'm honestly happier beating the crap out of my Yaris then I was owning the trans am.
Lol I saw his video first of the mustang and kept thinking 🤔 I would of bought a cheap cat fish camaro! Now seeing that you bought one I'm supper happy my idea will play out. I really think this was the better pick despite owning a modern s550 mustang, the older 4.6 ones aren't great. Now through some suspension on the fish with a power adder and rip out everything you can and it's going to be a good one. 👍 super excited now 😆
I've been a technician for 20 years, blowing up the air bags before you dispose of them is exactly what you're supposed to do. We even have special weighted brackets to bolt them to that keep them from flying when they go off. Once they're deployed, you can just toss them.
We have two 1997 Camaros, a Z28 and a base model. Both are in nearly perfect condition. Zero rust on either. The base model V6 has a blown 3800 motor in it that needs a rebuild. I'm pretty sure neither one of them has seen so much as rain. Neither are the LS engine (Lt in the z28 in 97, right? and 3800 in the base model) but both are better looking than this one. The different nose design is just better looking. No catfish whiskers, or nostrils above eyes here. One is that same red, the other is the cayenne red, which is quite fetching. Both are convertibles. The only problem with these two cars (other than the blown 3800) is they're both automatics!

LOL. Rural TN. I live in Grainger county so I agree. Love it though. Good luck. I'm a huge German and Humble Mechanic fan. May the odds ever be in your favor LOL...
It’s a good car.
Can't wait for episode 2 - BTW the fasteners are metric - GMs have been metric since the early 90s, some sooner
The good news is most of the weight could be shop vac’d out…
LT4 did not precede the LS1 in the Z28/Trans Am. They had an LT1 iron block. Certain RARE SLP models did come with an LT4 in the SS in 1997.
Every day the 90's cars I dreamt about having just keep appreciating little by little.
Ben Lin when team’s got a muscle car: 🤠🇺🇸
Kinda want to see this thing wind up as a rival/ counter part, to the mr-s, learning technique from its complete opposite and some chassis/handling stuff for the sunk boat hydrated fish
I drove a ls1 trans am ws6 6sp back in the day. It was way faster than a stang.
Do a full restoration on this car please!!!
98 camaro z28 was about 22k. 305 hp. 320 hp supra 57k
👍 super excited now 😆
Such a good episode. Glad to be back to 1ep per week
Great episode. Excited to see something not Japanese on the channel
I've been a technician for 20 years, blowing up the air bags before you dispose of them is exactly what you're supposed to do. We even have special weighted brackets to bolt them to that keep them from flying when they go off. Once they're deployed, you can just toss them.
The exchange at 22:45 is indeed a legitimate conversation to be had in the south. Especially the anger at the backseat driver.
That's the best southern accent I've ever heard.. and I'm from Louisiana
