- The only thing better than buying a new Camaro ZL1 1LE for Salvage Stories? Getting it WAY cheaper than you expected at salvage auction! I was shocked to see the bid on this 6th Gen Camaro ZL1 1LE close so low, but it raised a serous concern... Did I miss something???
Either we're going to make a TON of money on this Supercharged LT4 monster or everyone else saw something I missed, but there's only one way to find out... After an unknown driver gives it a smokey little test run..

I thought so too. This was an easy fix. The rate that theyre getting destroyed, there not that many ZL1s, much less with the 1LE.
I thought he was a little quick on putting the pillow on the face of the patient too. I’ve seen them fix much worse, but I guess $19k for the drivetrain is an offer not to be refused.
We have entirely too many rebuilds in progress, gotta pay the bills!
Trust me, if we didn’t have a business to run (and had a theoretical unlimited budget) we’d rebuild everything!
But if we didn’t do this, we wouldn’t be able to rebuild anything at all.
@@scraplifegarage We get it. Just sad to see this one get parted. It wasnt so bad. Frame rails looks straight. Not even sure why it was totaled to begin with...
@@RipRoaringGarage it may not have came across in the video but there was a LOT of inner structure quarter damage etc. it was definitely fixable, but not cost effectively by insurance standards.
Even heavily damaged still stays alive

Me too! If I knew it was selling that cheap, I would have bid on it myself! I don't think I would have won it though. I would've put $25,000 as my "max bid", and he said he put $26,000 as his max.... For someone who wants to just own the car, these prices make a lot of sense. As a former auto body tech, I could have fixed it for prices that would make it a great investment.
I watched till about 8:04 then bailed when you pulled the engine and trans and I saw those beautifully straight frame rails..... There were actual tears, no really, tears because that was a very repairable monster of a car... :(
Gotta pay the rent I know. Love the channel and the mechanicing, wrench turning skills and also appreciate the time involved in conceptualization, scripting, videoing and editing that goes into these productions ... Peace out brother.

After all these guys are wreckers and make money from stripping and selling parts. This was definitely a good car to buy to strip.
Yeah, from a business perspective, it was the smart decision. To repair this car properly would cost at least 15k, then you're into it for around $38,000. Then you have to worry about if someone is going to pay around $56,000 for it to make any sense to do it this way. Much safer investment to part it out.

Should bought a high mileage v6 car and used it to fix this car.That car was to nice to scrap.Easy fix.

That Camaro is awesome you can take that to the hoopti show plenty of those just make sure it's safe and all the lights working drive it don't bother fixing it I love it don't have to worry about dense or scratches have a great day my buddy just bought a 27 Packard sedan hasn't run since 68 if it's a nightmare have a great day
LT4’s can crank for a while. They won’t fire until all the parameters are right. Like the DI fuel pressure etc. It happens if they sit for a while. Looks like a decent car for sure

It's sad for guys who like to rebuild things but, sometimes the parts are worth much more than a salvage title rebuild.
Love to know the back stories on these rides, it wasn't like it was driven by a younger driver. This zl1 is borderline part out/repair it imo. Another great vid!
Yup, nice deal guys. That's why many watch and use Copart auctions, you can get the car you want, and especially if you have a nice shop to repair it.
Over shot a little. Those tail lamps are only $430 brand new for the pair from GM. 😁
I am surprised you didn't put the passenger quarter panel complete section up for sale!
Quarters don't sell for that much used, plus the labor to cut it out, and the unbelievably high cost of shipping something that big, you can still get all that stuff new from GM, WITH the guarantee that it will arrive at your house or shop in perfect condition. Having worked at body shops, I can tell you; it sucks a lot when you have to work with used quarter sections. You have to drill/cut out the factory welds/seams perfectly in order to use the parts. Sometimes you don't have a choice ( like when new pieces aren't available.). But when it comes to weld-in parts, you're always better off with new👍

It would be an awesome swap. But also super expensive. I would be more tempted to look at building a junkyard 5.3L with twin turbos and getting an upgraded t56 transmission
True. I went with a LS -2(6.0L) with a single 105mm turbo and a 6L80e in my '89 Trans-Am GTA. Nothing like having an almost bulletproof 6 speed auto trans with paddle shifters. I debated which trans to get for years, and finally settled on a junkyard 6L80e with only 1,700 miles on it. Poor 2500 Silverado still had it's paper plates when it got wrecked....
@@dragonladyz290 the 2nd gen ctsv has that transmission as well. Mine was very solid. There are guys making 1000hp on that transmission...just needs quality tuning to handle it.
The only negative thing I can say about that transmission is that it reacts so slow to the paddle shifting.

I Owen that same car and would like to know about the set of rims with tires! Are they bent at all? Also those marks around the lip, can a paint shop fix them! Very interested! Thank you in advance
Lol love it. My 2015 SS was just stolen and found stripped on Oakland CA. I had about 7 grand into mods. My car was spotless and in pristine condition. I miss my camaro
This makes me want to keep my ZL1 1LE. So many ZL1’s getting destroyed and parted out. Plus they are done making these!!
Bought a salvaged title 2017 A8 SS for 4750 in like 2019. Took me a while to fix it up but turned out to be a great car. Put about 15k of parts and labor into it, upgraded lights to a 2018, got some nice custom rims, painted it mustang orange and had an orange interior, front was a ZLE and fit a ZL1 hood on it (debaged it), put a Borla ATAK all ebay finds. Covid came by and sold it with a salvaged title for 27.5k. The camaros bring great money.
Why GM never dumped the LT4 into a RCSB Silverado I'll never know...
I know, right? Ford has the Raptor, Ram has the TRX, and Chevy has... A suspension package for the Silverado.....

Watching this channel for the first time, you got my attention with the ZLE but you took everything almost off of it, I thought this was a repair salvage or totaled vehicles. Sad, you guys didn’t rebuild the ZLE

They are way to expensive, I was looking at Camaro SS's yesterday and they are still selling used for like 35K you can find some for sale at 29K but they have like 60K in miles and 3/4 different owner's. And that is scary to me for a 5 year lone on 25K... I can't believe how hard I work and how Poor I am..

I feel if he would’ve fixed the zl1 , he could’ve easily sold it for 55k
I haven't checked the prices recently but just before covid hit there was a bunch of zl1 that hit the market with a lemon/buyback title from the manufacturer. There was a shortage of parts for the superchargers at one time and they did a buyback on a bunch of cars because it was going to be months before they could get parts to fix them. At that time they were selling for roughly $45k with low miles on them. Same for the c7z and V3.

Those front subframes break before the suspension does all the time. Cast aluminum is not strong

The car wasn’t running when it was damaged. No air bags. It drove straight down the road. This is best case scenario parts car.

I freakin hate the damage auctions cause. I bought a rear ended Camaro and the messed up the front end radiators and all maybe even hit the motor/pillows as the hit it with the forks….. idk how they tried picking a low car with having the forks anywhere close to the ground

The gto hasn't depreciated in over a decade now. The prices have been constant for years now. Great cars to get into and hold onto

Are the carpets and headliner not worth anything? Just curious.
Headliner no, in almost all cases they are so cheap new that they aren’t worth the cost of shipping.
Carpets are weird market, older cars with mint carpets yes. New cars like this 9/10 carpets are good on salvage cars, so we can pretty much take them out of whatever cars we have on the shelf in the rare case someone needs to buy a carpet on a car this new (flood rebuild, etc)
