Maturing is realizing both are amazing cars
Here is a non mature person ^
Edit: he deleted the reply lol
maturing is realizing that you dont need this xd
Becoming wise is realizing the evo is better
Whatever you chose, both have 4 doors and you can keep it while raising a family
@@joshnordin4043 the evo is better but ill stick with the subaru thank you
"Everyone will bring up their personal experience ... and say that's why their choice is best. We often rationalize choices we've already made." Ben giving us straight up life lesson here.
That's the whole Samsung vs iPhone debate too. Rationalizing why they paid 1000 for a phone.
yep usually i absolutely hate best this or that videos so it was nice to see actual common sense and logic applied here!
Not so much a life lesson, more like common sense, something everyone should already realize.
yeap he summed up confirmation bias in that one statement
It doesn't change the fact the Evo is better in any situation though
It's crazy to know that after the Evo was killed in 2015 the STI lasted only on generation later before it was killed off. The Evo and STI were rivals that needed one another to constantly push each other's limits and to survive. One cannot exist without the other very long.
Yeah but Subaru is still making cool cars and Mitsubishi is making eclipse crossovers 😭
@@tiagorijo3357 Mitsubishi is too small to focus on cars that don't sell in big numbers. Crossovers unfortunately rule the market right now and make lots of money. They should of never called that abomination an Eclipse though 🤦
GR corolla has entered the chat
Just for all the people that don't know. Subaru still sort of makes the STI but only in Japan. It's called Subaru WRX S4 STI, aswell as the Forester STI Sport and the Levorg STI Sport.
They also made a 2023 WRX STI Race car for the 24h of NBR
So it's not really "dead", considering they also announced that there will be a electrified STI
Idk about the USA but the main reason they dont make it here in EU anymore is thanks to the EU's zero-emission policy
@@tiagorijo3357 Lets get this right. The new wrx isnt cool😂. Also like It was said. Mitsubishi makes appliances. Cars wasnt their main source of income. The Evo was just a project car for them to compete in Rally. They didn’t have to release evos to the market but as part of Rally Regulations they were forced to sell units of the rally car to the market.
I love the inclusion of the top gear segments! Really harks back to the glory days
Real top gear. Not this shit we have now
😂
Top gear does not do long term ownership evaluation of stock nor modded evo and wrx. Their opinion is just for entertainment.
Info should come from people who mod, race, and fix these things.
Both are amazing cars. Nothing will replace these two iconic legends.
2 best cars ever made
@@supercooldude824 No. Very good cars? Absolutly! But best cars ever made? No.

I love my Evo VIII MR. It's been my daily driver since I bought in new in 2004. Had the engine rebuilt after the bottom cracked. Lightly tuned by WORKS, I have always taken care of it. With 277,000 miles, you expect it to be a wreck, but surprisingly, except for a heavier clutch, it drives like a normal 400hp car, no squeaks, no rattles no nothing. I can count the number of days it hasn't been tucked in a garage at night (16). I recently had it detailed with paint correction and ceramic coating and the detail shop made a video of it for their website, calling it a classic rally car in perfect condition! With the prices their getting and the offers I've received and 👍 from everyone, it's gonna stay with me forever and I'm a 55 year old woman who loves Quarter Horses and horsepower!
Ohh wow 55yr old and a woman!
@@commentmancommentman1658 She was about 35 in 04 when it was bought new
Let that sink in
Fair play
well, where is the link to the video?! I want to see your clean ass Evo VIII MR! Such a classic and one of my favourite Japanese offerings.
I have the 05 ssl from New
Still have it. 114,000ks. and it drives like the day I bought it. Won't sell it.
Owning both is the real play
Both are amazing cars and both are very engaging to drive and it really comes down to preference. As an Evo IX owner, the Evo will be easier to tune due to the legendary 4G63T (and also 4B11) and fast due to its advanced techs like the AYC. The Evo also got lot more lower end torque than the Subarus. But the STi will be more comfortable as a daily and more "mechanical", and if you love boxer engines, the EJ20 is quite a high revving and reputable engine and have less known issues than the EJ25. Surprisingly though, the recaro seats in the Evo IX is quite comfy for trips. One of the cons that the Evo has over the STi are parts distribution as it can be bit harder to get parts, especially from Evo I to VI. I'm glad I got the Evo though, it's such an amazing car.
I have a Hawk STI and I can confirm, that seats in those cars are terrible... they look good with the blue alcantara, but they have 0 side support and no lumbar support, just terrible seats
The EJ20 is such a sweet little motor, much smoother than my old EJ25, even with a fluidamper installed. Never had the pleasure of driving an EVO yet.
I have hawk and i like seats, i hate bolster seats do not like a feeling
@@petkokrushev3840 well on track without normal belts most of the non-sport seats are not good. you need something like sparco qrt or smth.
But for life I enjoy blobeyes seats. really cofmy. well, not cofmy, its not like some S-klasse or even Lexus (like 570), but I feel great on it.
evo for track, sti for daily
I’m a bit biased as a subaru owner. But, I believe that both are truly amazing.
Evo’s are red ❤️
Subaru’s are blue 💙
Both go stu-stu-stu 💜
Even with the evo being discontinued I’d still take it over an STi.
The Sti is discontinued as well
@@ianholmquist8492 yes but that is a recent thing the evo died in earlier 2000s but u do make a great point , now they both no longer have new production model ... so 20 years from now maybe we get a better comparisons lol ... peace n love brotha
As a classic sti owner........ I would take the Evo too because all Imprezas past 2003ish are garbage!
@@mastercricket7626 the evo was discontinued in the mid 2010s, not the early 2000s
Full disclosure I’ve only driven both but never owned either. My friends have tho and I lived vicariously through them and knew what troubles laid ahead if I got either one.
Currently owning and have built both, if you want to make some real power, go Evo. The power per dollar is unmatched. If you're looking for a more comfortable daily driver that'll decimate all in the snow, go STI. That being said, the Evo can be a fantastic and comfortable daily driver and the STI can make great power too. I think this video is perfect in the sense of not pinning one on the other, but just showing how they are vastly different from each other.
EVO's are great in the snow too, one could argue that they are better until you get to Subaru model years that include the more advanced center diff controls and limited slip differentials. In the US the Subaru has a stronger drivetrain but more open differentials. If you compare same year the EVO always has the drivetrain advantage in the US.
Yeah it’s simpler to on an inline 4 engine whereas boxer engines people just chuck parts at them and expect it work like inline engines heck even v engines are easier to work on that said there’s really some sort of weird satisfaction when you learn to work on an engine that’s only 5% on the roads. Kinda like the rotaries although much rarer than Subaru
GREAT segment. "It depends on the owner" Truest statement about car reliability I've heard in a while. I preach this to people. Both of these are impeccably done. Great taste man.
I really miss your road trip videos I’m sure it’s a lot to film all of it an super draining on your mind an body but those videos are unmatched on RUclips there’s no one that does what you guys do with the level of quality that you guys put in these videos!!
I've owned 5 Subarus, and always wanted to give an Evo a shot. Yet, no matter when I look, over the past 10 years they've always been ~$30k for a nice, clean, low mile 8 or 9. I guess I need to hold out for one with a blown motor or gearbox and fix it up. 🤔
Dude same! I’ve owned 2 Subarus but man do I want an evo! They are skyrocketing in price. The only way you can get one for a good price is if they are blown up or a shell.
Get ‘em while they’re hot boys. Prices are only gonna go up for well-maintained cars
plenty of evos for sale on facebook groups
EVO engine and gearbox prices have gone insane.
My advice would be to join the Evo groups on Facebook for your area and just keep an eye on them. It doesn't happen often but there will be some good deals that pop up
As a STI owner, i give my evo cousins a wave when i drive because at the end of the day, we still can agree that the Toyota and Honda has nothing on us.
The last thing I expected from this video was for Bruce Forsyth to get a mention.
Great way to end the video with that Top Gear clip. As a mechanic I have been lucky to work on and test drive both cars modded. I have to say I would pick the STI for the comfort only over any EVO. Great video piece.
I just fell in love with the sound of subarus when I was about 5. The evo just didn't sound like anything special to me. I still stand by that today. Although I still want to own an evo. Love my wrx, but I also love the look of evos too and think I could turn one into a killer track car. They're both amazing cars.
Same for me. The low rumble of the subaru makes it for me. I just can't part with that flat 4 rumble sound.
Owned a blob eye and a X. You guys hit the nail on the head of comfort vs aggression. Its all preference and both are amazing cars.
Which one felt more raw? GD or the X?
Love ur videos bro. Always so Clean, to the point and chill. Respect
100% spot on! I’ve too been fortunate enough to experience both, the Subaru is a far better road car to live with & much much more comfortable, however the Evo feels more raw and motorsport-bred. I’ve always been an Evo man and that’s the one I own, however I could never use it as my daily driver, it would be too uncomfortable and far too expensive to run and maintain. Both have their pros and cons, neither are overall ‘better’ than the other, it’s purely preference or purpose. 👍🏻
An evo is more expensive to maintain than a subi??? 🤔🤔🤔Considering that subi engines has major problems over time I'd disagree.
I daily my Evo 7 and I love the stupid thing so much. It's decently modified and running E85 and such, but it's just so much fun all the time that I'm more than happy to put up with its discomforts.
Yes, it drinks more fuel than most products Boeing makes, and yes its turning circle can probably be seen from space, but no other car can put a smile on my face the way it can.
@@juliantaffa4089 you, sir made me laugh. Im stealing that last part of your comment. Evo is a dream car of mine, especially the 6-6.5.
Haha! I salute you sir! 🫡 You’re much less of a pansy than I! 👍🏻😂
I feel like I made the right choice getting a Forester STI 🎉 Use it as my daily driver and do long road trips with it. I always thought evo would be hard to run due to part availability and not so many specialists and community.
Very well made. Keep up the great content!
Sidenote: This video (as always) is gorgeous! The shots are so good!
This videos are amazing journalism, love them
Worked as a lot attendant in high school in 12-13 at a Subaru Mitsubishi dealership. I got to drive both cars, and they were unique in their own way. I prefer the evo but would have bought either one given the opportunity.
Morning content to start the day. Thanks G & G
The episode i've been waiting for🔥
Your editing in this one is superb.
As someone who happily owns both, I just really feel that they are equally amazing in their own right. Though, I much prefer my Subaru for daily driving. The Evo is so much more violent. I can eek mid 20s mpg out of the Subaru but have to fight to get 15 from the Evo.
EVO: “it’s way cheaper to make 400 HP…”
22 WRX enters chat.
he entered then left immediately cos he forgot he isn't an STI
It's still cheaper on an Evo. 400hp at the crank is like 340 or so to the wheels, you can do that without opening up the engine at all.
@@liudxdx LOL 😆
@@liudxdx Eh, that shouldn’t matter honestly. The FA24 is still a Subaru engine that’s incredibly capable. Based on what we’re seeing so far, potentially more capable than the 4G63 and 4B11. It won’t be long until people start swapping these into STIs, lol.
A great way to start my Saturday ❤
Thanks for this video!
Now I miss my 2013 Evo X GSR
I’ve watched every Evo Vs. STI video out there and this has to be the best one by far. Thank you for making an honest, unbiased video. They’re both great cars; whatever you end up buying just comes down to personal preference. That said, I’d buy my Evo X X-times over (see what I did there? 😉)
nice to see some old top gear clips
Love the top gear flashbacks. Great video as always
I honestly think both cars are great. But if I have the opportunity to purchase one or the other, I’d go with the 2014 WRX STI Hatchback… because I love hatchbacks
Have you considered the lancer ralliart?
@@MrCriistiano my buddy had one and he loved it. I just have a preference for Subaru.
I've owned and built an evo 8, at the same time as my younger brother owning an sti. Both are excellent choices. It's hard to see that an evo hasn't been around and that they actually made one another better since they are always competing...
Another awesome, well-made video. Thank you.
Excellent video bro
I like to imagine that maybe Subaru knew that Mitsubishi was killing the Evo and Subaru decided to style the new generation after the Evo to keep its legacy going and to kind of give an homage to its fiercest competitor and rival, but also best friend. Probably not true but seeing how they are so similar, you never know.
On the reliability comment, being a Subaru nerd as well. The Ej2.0l is such a stout engine and is commonly overlooked and overshadowed by the ej257. Which sucks, because if you ever go to a track day, you are right you see sti blow up and fail a lot, BUT people running built 2.0l Ej's. They just keep going. I really feel like the US should really give the 2.0l more credit. They are so stout. Being an owner of a 2005 WRX, and a 2011 Sti. My WRX feels stout and strong while my sti feels more brittle. Not a fair comparison seeing the WRX has a built 2L BUT it has tons of miles on its engine close to 70k and with proper care it still keeps going. The Sti is up there at 108k and I worry about it. No issues, yet but I have always felt it was a weaker engine.
If this reliability conversation was through the E1-4, the argument would be "Ringland/ Headgaskets vs Crankwalk"
Head gaskets were never a problem for turbo Subarus
I have both 06 evo9 14 wrx and are amazing to own you get to experience all the ups n downs on these great machines 👍
New Video. My heart is filled with joy, love and excitement.
I’ve always wanted a STI but I am scared of their engines! I think when I’m more financially stable I’ll play around with one.
buy with ej207 and all gonna be allright (well, surely after you build it first time). Good cooling (front + oil cooler), not too much boost and its all good.
I’ve had an etuned 2017 wrx for over 4+ years and a 2021 Sti for over a year now. As long as you take care of it you’ll be fine. Subis are awesome.
@@kpopnz4117 I want a sti hatchback and the previous generation before the new ugly one came out haha
This channel I swear gets better
Now this is what i've been looking for, full explanation of both cars
Lexus ❤
Evo 100%
Never been in an evo. But the 2016 sti had great back seats. Great for bringing friends along on a joy ride...
Both cars are baller!!! I'm in the Subaru family and I love my STI but I appreciate both cars and the owners of them!!
Subaru 😄 with one oil change you swap 2 engines and 4 gearboxes 😂
Subaru is much more better.
Elaborate
as a subaru owner, i love seeing and waving at evos
I love this video man!! I daily an Evo X but still love looking at Stis everyday. Hope to own both some day
Been trying to get a good look at those wheels on the sti, this is so helpful lol
I am a die hard subie fan boy. Currently driving an 05 6speed swapped legacy gt. Love subies. But i do love the evos too! Its a dream to own an sti an evo at the same time!
I had a 2008 lancer as my first car and since then I fell in love and dream of getting an evo one day.
I have had both and enjoyed both.
Ive always loved both, but the evo 8 was one of the first cars i remember wanting to own. So evo's will always have a special place in my heart for that.
You nailed it @ 7:34! It's all about that Subie Culture-it's not about owning a car, it's a lifestyle! You meet some of the coolest people @ Subie events.
I've owned both cars same years as bens and really comes down to what you want out of it I agree 100% with Ben although I do miss the comfort and amenities of the sti, the power and raw feeling of the Evo is what I needed both amazing cars none the less
You hit the nail on the head with that statement. It would be nice to have the STI drivetrain in my Evo 9 MR. My long-term goal with this car is 500 AWHP and I want to keep the 6-speed.
You nailed the description of both cars. I have an Evo X and I 100% agree confort is worst than a STI( my friend have one so I can also compare) but in the end I still prefer the Evo driving experience.
Can't believe the lads only have 1 million subs ,top shelf content lads 👏
I love my Evo X, but man it has given me issues so far during my ownership. From the ACD/AYC pump to the transfer case leaking. its been three months of ownership, and im a seasoned Mitsubishi owner it feels like 😂 (hardcore guys dont make fun of me pls). But when the car works and when its 100% mechanically sound it just feels like an absolute machine. I love it! Just need to button up a few things. My friend has an STi with the same experience, they are both fantastic cars! Good video guys!
I can't wait for the road trip video I hope to meet you ben when you reach my hometown of Minnesota
Good job on making this video
I drive a FE Evo myself and I've driven a 2021 wrx and i love how both cars feel behind the wheel
And it's true people who don't know about cars usually think my car is a subaru, because they're more common around where i live.
If it’s fun and absolute blast to drive, comfort may not matter a lot to me! I would pick Evo any day but I like STIs too and always nice to see a clean Subie on the road and appreciate it
Thanks for citing your background music, it really helps copyright free artists
As and ex-evo owner with many wrx owner friends. I think you nailed the assement pretty much.
I had an 05 Evo which unfortunately I had to sell awhile back. Now I have a 17 WRX and 23 GR Corolla. All the AWD cars are great in their own way. Just enjoy them while we can.
My Evo had its balance shaft seize and fail around 80k. Luckily I didn't blow the motor and it kept running. I sold it around 110k miles. It was my daily driver from 07-12
My WRX had a rod bearing failure at 24k miles stock. All maintenance done by the dealer. The short block was replaced under warranty.
We'll see about the GRC reliability over time.
I have a evo 9 but I really want a 06 STI just to see what it’s like
There's only 1 Evo where I live, they are still super rare so most guys just buy an oz rally/ralliart and mod them (aka me) it's a cheaper option and since it's my first "project car" it was my best option with the money I had at the time. I also was looking into getting a sti when I first started looking but it seemed anyone of them that were in my price range were either blown motors or bad transmissions. But I still want one to this day. Ben's living my dream right now 😂
Well done video
We need a drag race between these two!!!
very honest review
You are totally right about reliability
I have a 2012 GSR Evo X and a 2020 STI.
STI is ideal for my daily commute, interior more modern, better quality all around, better comfort and sounds amazing.
Evo is my favorite to work on with a beer in one hand and a wrench in the other on a weekend. Great to take out on a Sunday drive and rip it up and down my neighborhood getting all the karens worked up then park it for the week and repeat.
Yup they both are wonderful
Finally someone with an unbiased opinion regarding both of these cars. People love to hate on one brand over the other and jump on bandwagons. Both cars have their pros and cons, but they’re both rally inspired legends. Appreciate both! Just pick which one you want 🤷🏾♂️
Really well put together!
Maybe more input could've been put into collectable models of the cars as well as depreciation price difference?
Great to hear you opinion, although I had a Sti but Sold it for a Evo X after driving my friend X....And will i say, am staying with the Evo X
This was very wholesome, i like that.
I owned a red TME Evo 6.5 that I modified to be responsive and fun on the street that still ran an 11.1 second quarter mile on 225 street tyres in full street trim that I stupidity sold.
I'm now on the hunt for a 2019+ STi for a fun street car. I think this video nailed it perfectly, the evo was great on a track but for something fun to drive everyday the STi is the pick.
This is one of the greatest debates in history..way more iconic than Coke vs Pepsi or Apple vs. Android. 🤟
I currently have a VA STI…. And I would like an Evo (either 5 or 9) along side with it 🙂. Something about 4 door AWD cars with big ass wings on it just does it for me 👌🏻
As someone who’s owned both I have similar views, the evo x was a track car and the Subaru is my daily. The Subaru is just more relaxing to drive. The evo is for days when I’m falling asleep or tired and need the adrenaline rush to wake up. Otherwise the subie is being driven. Glad to see this was a mature and realistic take on things. 🤙🏻
One has to have "reliability mods" performed, to make it last while stock.
What a great video! I love both cars, but got the STI cuz it was more accessible.
Both great cars, but personally I would go with an Evo, great video Ben, very mature and unbias, keep up the great work.
Both are equally best! I may sound biased because I own 2 Imprezas and I'm always dreaming to have a WRX or STI, however I grew up loving the Evo 4,5 & 6. and if given the chance today I would love to have an Evo 7,8 or 9 as well as the previous WRS or STI. but if i can only choose one.... of course i will go for the Subaru.
Haven’t driven any of them so which one’s better is something I cannot say. But the Subaru is the better looking car if you’s ask me. Love the video🤟🏻
Almost 8 years with my Evo 8 best purchase I’ve ever made 🖤
This is why you should own both a subi and a Mitsubishi!! Best of both worlds i LOVE my evo X and i LOVE my WRX, use to have a 13 STI, Evo is definitely more aggressive but alot more road noise and the engine is louder in the cabin! Great video!
I've owned a 2006 Evo IX MR and a 2019 STi. Bought both new, and owned the Evo for six years and the STi for less than one. Preferred the Evo, but I think a large part of that was because that was my first enthusiast car, and I did a whole lot with it: it was the first car I ever got into the modding scene with, and I also took it down to Tail of the Dragon twice, which was a blast. The STi was also just a weekend car, as was the Evo, but for some reason it didn't engage with me as much as the Evo had. My tastes had changed to RWD at that point, and after wanting one for years and years, I found that I had moved on from it before I'd ever gotten it. I can easily see my opinion being different if I had gotten the STi instead of the Evo back in 2006.
Wow great timing, releasing your comparison video AFTER both cars have been discontinued. What will you compare next week? Betamax vs VHS???
I just want both. They both look so nice😍
I cant even tell which one is the best among those 2 cars they are such amazing machines
