    Been watching you for years, when I first started working for someone, we would always skip the pre slope on shower pans, thanks to you I kept insisting on doing it and now I work solo 🤣
    One thing I love about the remodeling community on RUclips is the amount of information and help provided is priceless.

    Happy that you show the curb as I'm doing mine now. I'm definitely going to butter it and water proof it again before tiling

    This is an old system the truth is a water in water out system like this with the waterproofing under the mortar will never dry it will always remain wet between shower it will also hold some soap residue and bacteria will grow on it.
    Every time I had to demo one of this shower system they stink from all the water that stays and the bacteria grow in the mortar and the mortar is soaking wet with a preslope or without the mortar will never dry because water doesn't drain completely due to water tension or water wicking and mortar is too tick to air dry or completely evaporate that is unless you shower once every 6 months this versus a system with the waterproofing on top of the mortar righ under the tile will dry way faster between showers and won't stink from all the bacteria grow, there are way too many brands that now use a system of waterproofing right under the tile.
    You can even use redguard with a different drain flange and use it on top of the mortar it will need to be a bonding drain flange that will allow you to have the waterproofing right under the tile.

    I'm in the process of rebuilding my shower. The previous owner had embedded drywall in the shower pan 😬. He also didn't use any water proofing; instead, he put calking over every grout joint lol. Additionally, he angled the curb outwards, so water would perpetually run out of the showing onto the floor. When I tore out the pan, it was leaking through the pan liner, rotting the subfloor in three different places. Some people just shouldn't do DIY, ever...

    Awesome video Bob! I’m taking your advice, keeping my cement board elevated above the lip of the acrylic tub surround I’m working on. Does 1/8-1/4 suffice? Also, do you recommend keeping the thinset out of that void when I tile? That would make sense, keep the void open so it doesn’t wick moisture. Thanks so much for helping us build confidence with your experience!

    Hey bob
    Merry Xmas and a happy new year...
    Quick question
    What happens is the wrong thin set is use on a bathroom wall?
    I got 3 rows of tiles installed and just realized that im using thin set that is recommended for 15x15 tiles. And im installing 12x24 porcelain tile.
    I should off been using thin set for large format tiles.

    • @StarrTile
      @StarrTile  5 месяцев назад

      Sorry for late reply..modified.thinset should always be used no matter size of tile, and the pre mixed in bucket is garbage, it'll never dry behind a large tile...
      Happy New Year to you 🥳 🎉 🪅 🎊 🍺

    I always floated my curbs using lath and fat mud. Haven't had any issues yet.

    • @StarrTile
      @StarrTile  5 месяцев назад +2

      I have small issue with that method, although it's a lot of work for not much return... plus I would also think that with no ability to separate the pan mortar to your floated curb that the wicking could happen the same way...just saying

    OMG! You are killing me.!This shower has nothing to do with the pre slope. The reason it failed is because they're screwed through the top and inside of the curb! Below the water line, That's your reason!!!. You can build the best shower in the world if you put screws through the liner anywhere😂.... There's so much going on in this video. you keep saying that you lift your concrete board up 3/4 of an inch, but it still touches mud. Unless you're liquid waterproofing the bottom 2 feet inside and out of the concrete board. You're always going to have mud touching concrete board..... Also running bond refers to what most people call Subway. But the correct name for Subway is 50% running bond. the pattern in this video is called straight LAY....... This shower failed because they screwed through the liner on top of the curb and on the inside of the curb. end of story..... Also I would disassemble that drain, and make sure there wasn't water getting underneath. It. that drain assembly looks pretty bad..... Spray that black area on the right side of the curb where the water is with water and bleach. Put a fan on it..... He also used the wrong screws and the wrong trowel size on wall tile..... That's Perma base it has pearl light in it. That's what the white is.. Worst type of concrete board. .... Awesome video, Merry Christmas and have a good holiday! 🎄

    • @BonBon770
      @BonBon770 2 месяца назад +1

      That's why you use special screws for concrete board. They are coated and alkali resistant. What you said is true. You should never use regular screws or nails in a shower.

    • @StarrTile
      @StarrTile  4 месяца назад

      BS, it failed because nothing was waterproofed, and because the wicking of the water got into the curb and outside floor, had nothing to do with corners
